Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Been here a few times and usually order the same thing as it is so good. Everything is always good. It is attached to the pub so beer is always cold and plentiful. Will be going back. They also offer the standard pub meals in case you don't like Chinese food. Can't tell you what thats like because the Chinese is always so good.

Roomy and clean pub with motel rooms in the centre of town. Good range of local wines, with two menus from the one impressive kitchen: pub grub and extensive chinese. We can vouch for the excellent combination seafood curry, as well as the salt & pepper calamari.
Long-time hosts Paul and Robyn were friendly and knowledgeable about their district. Their several much younger staff were also competent and happy.
A hot chocolate in front of the well-stocked open fire was a great after dinner treat.
An ideal base for wine touring.

My bestie and I had a girls weekend away to the Rutherglen. We arrived to a warm and welcoming hotel with neat and clean room with a car park out the front of the room. Beautiful rainfall shower! Paul and Robyn were wonderful hosts and we felt like family. Great wine and beer on tap. Thank you Johnny for the gorgeous Sichuan Calamari and Mongolian Lamb. We will be back!

The Chinese restaurant located inside the pub's bistro was the worst food I've ever eaten. Everything tasted as if it was emptied from a packet or jar and just heated up. Very disappointing is an understatement, as past visits here have been awesome. With the amount of amazing restaurants and cafes in Rutherglen, we won't be back. Unfortunately, you've lost patrons, who are regular visitors to the Rutherglen region.

We arrived as a large group in Rutherglen over Easter. The breakfast pack was a nice touch and the bed was reasonably comfortable. However, the carpet was very stained and the fridge not clean. The motel units make up one side of an L to the side of the outdoor bar/eating area. Noise levels are very loud with the restaurant fans going and the outdoor bar/smoking area. On two occasions the noise level was very loud - one night 3 young blokes didn't leave until 3:00am and another night a band that was playing in the pub didn't finish until around midnight. The music was fine, it was just very loud. Our room had a gap around the door and underneath. Earplugs are a must if you wish to stay here! The owner and staff parked in the motel patron car spots each day although there is a sign saying 'motel patron car parking'. The units were pretty full over the weekend.

Room Tip: Don't stay there if you are a light sleeper. There are plenty of other accommodations in town.

Perfect motel rooms, clean & quiet with breakfast provisions. Right in the centre of town. Reasonable rate and hosts happy to assist with all queries. Highly recommend this little gem. Pub provides a open fire, country hospitality and excellent local wines.

Great restaurant but accom

The Chinese restaurant has great gluten free options and amazing food.
Will come back to the restaurant but not paying $160 for room here. Got greedy I think despite a minor spruce up to the rooms.
Great area for Durif Wines

The owners must have changed since our visit 12 mths ago. Room was dirty. Cigarette butts cover the motel path/ doorway. Filthy first impression. Carpet needs replacing, Grimey. Don’t bother. Publicans to busy drinking in the bar to care about motel rooms. Such a shame.

We dined here on the recommendation of our motel host, who told us The Star did a decent Chinese meal. Unfortunately our experience was disappointing. We ordered Combination Chow Mein with soft noodles, tasteless and the noodles were of the 2 minute variety type instead of egg noodles. Beef and Cashew nuts were so sweet and the nuts were stale, we left the entire plate. In fact most of our meal was left. Shame because we find through our travels, regional Asian food has improved a lot over the years but not here.

Room was not clean on entry, floor had cereal scattered around (obviously hadn’t been vacuumed), bathroom floor and basn had hairs and filth about.
During night portable cool container in car park opposite rooms generator motor came on and off, sounded like train was coming into room.
Front security lock not working.
No notes in room for patrons, not sure where to leave key on check out.
Would not recommend to anyone.
