Back in March we stayed here for 1 night as part of my partner's birthday celebrations. Genuinely friendly owners who were welcoming and happy for a chat to ensure you were enjoying your stay. The house is gorgeous and our room was super clean with an extremely comfortable bed, fantastic bathroom and our own lounge area. Gardens were equally beautiful and well maintained. Located just around the corner from the Main Street, so easy walking distance. The breakfast in the morning was excellent. Would happily stay here again and highly recommend this B & B.

We stayed at Carlyle House for two nights on 19 February in a garden studio room. The room is equipped with TV, toaster, kettle etc, some breakfast cereals, some bread, milk and butter, enough for a two night stay. The accommodation is essentially one room. As you enter from the front door you have the kitchen area, on either side there are a couple of steps leading up to the bedroom and facing the bedroom is a sliding door which houses the bathroom.

The accommodation was well looked after and the bed comfortable. The proprietor, Robert, was kind enough to allow me to use the outdoor washing machine which was very much appreciated.

On the second day of our visit Doug, of Bank of Main drove us frome vineyard to vineyard in his 1925 Studbaker car which was the way to do it and great fun and we enjoyed his company.

On the day of departure, Robert came to our room at 10.15 to remind us that check out was 10.30!! This was a first for us.

We enjoyed a very warm friendly welcome from hosts Anthony & Sharon to their charming B & B, situated in a quiet street around the corner from restaurants and pubs in the hub of Rutherglen. Our room provided all essentials and the muscat & chocolates was a nice touch. We chose the continental breakfast -homemade granola, fresh fruits and yoghurt which was delicious. Highly recommend staying at this B & B.

Price as confirmed in writing was not adhered to.; we were asked to pay more when we checked out. . We had booked 5 rooms then changed to 4 rooms nearly 3 weeks before our arrival -- no mention of price increase at that time . Rooms were not serviced during our 3 night stay. We were left with dirty cups & glasses . Clean towels were supplied for 2 nights only. Breakfast service was a bit hit & miss.
We are a group of old friends who travel a lot. We would not recommend this B&B

Thank you Sue for taking the time to submit your comments as we do accept constructive criticism. When you made the original booking for 5 rooms you asked that the total tariff be split equally even though 1 suite was priced more than the others. We were later faced with a cancellation and had not re-booked that room. So we split the cancellation fee (as per our website and booking confirmation) equally on checking out. We regret that extra fee was necessary only in the event that we had not re-booked that cancelled room.

We spent three nights here as a group of ten (five couples who get together for an annual reunion - usually somewhere near good wineries!). Three of our couples had rooms in the grand old house and two in the adjoining garden apartments).
We had an enjoyable stay overall, but with some pluses and minuses which I will mention.
Cooked breakfast on the veranda on two mornings was most enjoyable, but because of rain one morning we adjourned to the dining room which is a bit "squeezy" (too small) for ten, never mind a full house. Also, our host's preference for 9.00am breakfast left some stomachs rumbling.
Similarly, the common/lounge areas could not really fit us all in comfortably, so the veranda it had to be.
One good feature of the establishment is the location - it's easy walking to the town with several good pubs and eating places (the "Taste" restaurant is excellent).
The house (and business?) was up for sale when we visited and we feel any prospective new owners will need to do some work to bring it up to the standard of a grand old country house, particularly if the intention is to continue the B&B function. The garden, in particular, is very run down and some parts of the house seem to be in need of renovation.

We stayed at the Carlyle to break our travel from Sydney to the Great Ocean road.
Anthony & Sharon are fantastic hosts - we were greeted on arrival and they provide very clean, comfortable accomodation in their beautifully restored old home. The Tokay room consisted of a siting room, bedroom and large bathroom. We had a separate entrance to our accomodation so very easy to bring luggage inside from the car parked just outside on the kerbside.Little extras like port and chocolates are provided and a great breakfast which we enjoyed on the verandah overlooking the lovely garden.
Our hosts gave us a recommendation for dinner at the Poachers Paradise Hotel about a block away in the main road. Our steak and salad dinner was perfect and the staff in the hotel are very friendly.
If only all B&Bs are like Carlyle House - thankyou for a great stay.

Had a short trip to Rutherglen with some work colleagues to visit several customers and managed to squeeze in a winery tour and dinner. Carlyle House came up in the search for a place to stay. Could have bunked into a local motel, but as we're used to paying city prices for accom, Carlyle House easily fitted into our budget. Couldn't have picked better. Marion our host was informative and provided excellent customer service. The house was warm, bedrooms very roomy, bathrooms clean, beds big comfy and warm. We had to leave early and Marion was up early and had a hearty breakfast ready to go. Very easy to recommend this place if in your budget.

We stayed in one of the Garden Suites, which are self contained and set in the gardens of Carlyle House. The sitting room was separate to the bedroom area. King bed quite comfortable. Small kitchenette was equip with microwave, toaster and kettle. There were enough plates and cutlery for 2 people. Bathroom had a shower only. Carlyle House is on HIgh Street, just off the Main Street in Rutherglen. We were here just for a night visiting some wineries and this was a good base. There is an IGA on the main street, just 2 minutes walk away. Also a number of cafes and a pie place we tried- Parker Pies had interesting pie fillings.

We stayed overnight at Carlyle House in the Muscat room. Best bed we have slept in with beautiful linen and comfy pillows. Having our own en-suite with a lovely hot shower was wonderful. Anthony and Sharon were delightful hosts and they cooked a delicious hotbreakfast for us. This is beautiful heritage home decorated superbly and so close to Main Street.
