Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This park has received a wide variety of reviews, some quite negative. Not sure why. We have enjoyed our stay here. From initial online booking enquiry to being set up onsite. Staff happy to give sightseeing tips when asked. Beautiful outlook over the lake. A short walk into town.

This is a great park in a great town. The change of ownership has gone to the next level, everything is heading in the right direction. Donna and Scott the managers are so accommodating and friendly, nothing is a problem. The camp fire at 4-30 or so is a great place to meet other campers. Overall the park, the town, and the management is fantastic. Look forward to our next stay.

Lovely caravan park within waking distance of the main street. Large grassed sites overlooking the King Lake Wetlands. Clean amenities . Lisa on reception was so welcoming , from the initial phone call to our arrival. Lovely park tables and BBQ overlooking the Wetlands. Nearby is a fantastic playground for children in the Apex park and a wonderful memorial gardens for Service Men. Very impressed. Should be 4 star rated. Will Def return.

Shady, well located, park. A daily happy hour appeared to be enjoyed by campers.

However, be aware, some sites are quite steep ( our drawbar was on the ground.)
The hand sanitiser in the ladies was empty for THREE days. (Not COVID safe.)
The mop bucket in the ladies was not changed/emptied for at least 3 days.
The men’s urinal was not very sanitary.
The grounds were generally poorly maintained e.g. mowing not a priority, trees suckering at base.

Great position being walking distance to shopping and eateries. Good views over the lake from most sites. But that’s all. General maintenance of amenities and grounds is extremely poor. Grass in need of mowing and general site cleaning. Amenities maybe be old but a good pressure wash of the floors and improved daily cleaning would be required before any recommendations or return visit. It could be a great park.

We really enjoy Rutherglen but would never stay in this caravan park again. We gave the benefit of the doubt and stayed here a second time. Sadly this is the worst review I have ever had to write. My experience with the owners was most unwelcoming and unablidging. Their use of language and tone is most unnecessary. In all my travels I have not come across this anywhere around the world. We also heard from others the camp toilets etc were not clean. We were thinking of cooking a bbq near where we were but decided against it after looking at it. You can see my photo. Thankfully the other people we met with around town were very nice. If you would like a nice local experience don't stay here

Response from Dennis Exton, Owner at Rutherglen Caravan and Tourist Park
Responded 3 July 2022
We had every right to be upset. No dogs with cabin bookings. Family members on a non powered site were found with a dog at the cabin which you were warned about. The photo of the bbq was probably taken after someone else used it without cleaning it.As for the toilets they are cleaned daily and are clean if you had a look yourself. In future if you have any problems with anything the office is open 8am-8pm

Worst experience of my young families lives. Think again before staying here. We had to leave due to my daughter being unwell after the first night. No refund for the following 2 nights and absolutely no empathy from management.

Good location close to Main Street and shops. Friendly greeting on arrival. Busy time of year with park nearly full. Amenity block and camp kitchen adequate. Ok for an overnight stop. Close to small lake which makes a nice outlook. Next to public swimming pool.

This park was a lovely surprise. The owners were very helpful and friendly. Loved the nightly happy hour down by the lake watching the beautiful sunset. There is lots to do here..lovely food and wine to taste.

The lake facilities are excellent and will only get better.

Congrats to Dennis and Lisa for what you have done in such a short time.

The very good setting for this caravan park was spoilt by our experience with the staff and conditions of facilities. We arrived just after 6pm, as advised to management that afternoon to find no one in the office. After 15 minutes of calling out (and I even tried calling their phone, but it went to fax), I took the car down to the site. We were confronted by the owner who was at the happy hour fire, demanding if we had checked in. When I said we had tried for 15 minutes, but noone was there, she retorted 'yes there is!'. Then we were told that the two sites we had booked (friends travelling with us) months ago were not available, because the people occupying them had decided to stay on longer. The sites we were given were very dusty with little grass. The next day, I noticed two other sites nearby with much nicer grass and asked for them. I was told that was not possible because they were pre-booked by others coming in that evening. When I pointed out some inconsistency with the fact that my pre-booking counted for nothing, I was grumpily told that park policy was not to move people once they were on site. Admittedly this situation did not set us on a very positive course, but a few more facts that have not been referred to by other reviewers are worth mentioning. (1) The camp kitchen, despite appearing quite new, has a pervasive stale fat smell, and the tables were greasy and tacky. (2) The owner has a two stroke golf buggy that he drives around in all day; if he does not want to walk around his job, he could at least get an electric buggy that would not spoil the peace and quiet. (3) The park is pet friendly. Fine, but there must be a shortage of such parks, because this one was full of little pooches that yapped in their owners caravans all night, and I was particularly disgusted by one pet owner that let her dog stop for a pee about a metre from where I was sitting. (4)We noticed stray bits of paper still in the bathrooms from one day to the next, so obviously the cleaning was pretty cursory (5) The taps near our site were set up as horizontal high pressure taps for caravan water connections so they could not be used for simple things like rinsing cups or filling water bottles. The nearest regular tap was across the road and four sites away - not impossible, but certainly inconvenient.
