From the time I made the booking directly with Sue, I knew this would be a good experience!
Sue and Max manage this establishment very effectively, professionally and with the well being of guests forefront in their minds.
After an arduous drive from Canberra, we arrived much earlier than our anticipated time of arrival and were very appreciative of being able to gain access to our room prior to the advertised nominated hour.
The room was extremely clean, well provisioned, light and airy.
The shower and toilet are in a separate room, from the wash basin and the bedroom which, for us, is preferred.
The fridge was well stocked with wine and other assorted goodies.
The bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning worked a treat even on hot days.
Tea and coffee making facilities are available along with a toaster, bowls and plates, cutlery etc for those who wish to make their own breakfast.
Cafés, shops and pubs are only a short walk away for those who wish to dine out.
A highlight for me was an outdoor pool which was, like the rest of the establishment, beautifully maintained, clean and partly covered to offer protection for those who prefer it.
Thoroughly recommended for couples or families looking for well managed and maintained accommodation in Rutherglen with easy access to the multitude of wineries in the district as well as the town itself, at an affordable price.

Right in Rutherglen with walking distance to the main street. The room was comfortable and Sue (the owner) is a great host and provided us with helpful information on wineries, eating establishments and travel destinations. We thoroughly recommend it and would gladly stay there again. The only improvement we noted was requiring a floor mat for the shower as it was a tad slippery but that was it.

We were warmly welcomed and found the heating already on in our room on the chilly afternoon when we arrived. Our room had a very comfortable bed and a full set of breakfast utensils. There are probably cheaper motels in town, but this one has a few nice touches such as fresh milk, big towels and nice grounds.

I have stayed at the Wine Village a number of times and have always enjoyed the stay. Lovely rooms, big pool and great outdoor area. A good base to experience the wineries.
However, when I stayed here recently, it was not a great experience at all. On check in, the owners had told us that they have had some negative experiences with some guests in the past and as a result have implemented a strict policy of no visitors. I would hazard a guess that most motels at one time or another would have the odd undesirable guest that they would have to deal with, so I understand that it would be frustrating at times running a motel.
We also had friends staying at The Wine Village as well as at the nearby Touleries. Most of us are all in our fifties and I would consider sensible and responsible people. The first morning, three of us had organised to go for a bike ride and arranged for the other two to call past and collect me. This they did. It was 9.30 in the morning and I had my bike ready at the front of my room. As soon as they arrived we set off. They didn’t come into my room and weren’t loud. The whole process would have taken perhaps a minute and we were on our way. Later that day, the owner complained about them being on his property and waking up other guests. Needless to say, from then on I rode to collect them at the Touleries for our morning rides.
Another time we were, as a group, heading to some wineries in three cars. It was 41 degrees, so our friends called past to collect some of us. They drove on the property and didn’t even get out of their cars, but were promptly asked to leave. One of the cars was picking up their children, aged in their twenties who were staying at the motel! At no stage did any of our friends come into our rooms, thus not ‘wearing out the carpet or couches’ as the owner said to me, about non-guests visiting the motel.
Seven of our group had never been to Rutherglen before and were astounded about the attitude of the owners. It was so over the top, and I was a little embarrassed having talked the region up to them.
To be judged on the negative behaviours of a few individuals that have previously stayed at the motel was rather demeaning. If they think their behaviour is reasonable, then I would suggest they are in the wrong business.
I’ve travelled to over 70 countries and stayed in all types of accommodation, but struggle to recall ever copping this attitude, particularly when we were paying $180 a night.
I certainly will be staying somewhere else next time I’m in Rutherglen.

We are bewildered that you or anyone would expect Guests staying at our opposition Motels would be welcome to use our Pool and superior BBQ and Garden area. Our Public Liability Insurance covers only our Guests as does our Liquor Licence. We are an accommodation provider NOT a Public House i.e. not a HOTEL or RESTAURANT. We suggest to everyone we at the Wine Village Motor Inn concentrate OUR Guests enjoying our Motels facilities without having to vie for them by non paying interlopers.

I have stayed at this accomodation twice before (pre the current owners) it is very clean and tidy with a great pool and outdoor area, however this is sadly where the postives end... Due to the owners authoritarian style of running their business It is sterile and lacks any warmth or frendliness.
The tone is set very early on at check in where banter and hospitality are replaced with Rules , Policies and regulations and dont you dare step out of line ! Not exactly the welcome I was expecting , I felt like a naughty school kid in the headmasters office . It feels like your everymove is constantly being watched by the many CCTV across the property and instead of feeling protected as a single female I felt intimidated and spied on.
I would suggest the owners pack up and do some travelling of their own to discover what true Aussie hospitality looks like.

We required a room to accommodate my disabled husband, his electric wheelchair, a hoist and his 2 person care team coming in twice a day.
It was a big ask. This was the ONLY suitable place we found in the town after trawling all the booking sites.
Max and Sue, the owners, were happy for us to move the furniture around to allow safe access and care and offered us every assistance including setting out a ramp and allowing us to use a larger parking space for our large bus.
The facilities were spot on and the bathroom more than adequate.
If we can offer one tiny suggestion it would be to consider installing a bi-fold or pocket door etc. to the bathroom to allow it to be shut once the commode/chair is over the toilet. It was a choice of open door once hubby was in position or the carer being 'trapped' inside in order to have a closed door.

We will certainly choose this accommodation again.

Facilities are neat and clean throughout, although our Foxtel did not function. Bed and pillows not overly comfortable but biggest disappointment was the Manager's attitude to visitors. We are seniors (not party yahoos) and have stayed at the venue several times before as part of group of 5 couples. This year one of the couples, who had stayed at the motel previously, had purchased a caravan and wanted to simply visit the group - not to use pool or BBQ but simply sit with the group for an hour or two on the lawn. The Manager made it quite clear that NO VISITORS were allowed on site AT ALL. Bad luck if if you plan to meet friends or family living in the area - no exceptions. We've spent plenty at the venue and in the Town, but in future will go to Corowa (bad luck to the other businesses in Rutherglen). Surely 2 visitors amongst 4 other couples is not a problem but the Manager cites insurance liability despite the fact all business have public liability to cover all. Very disappointing and Rutherglen is the loser !!! Won't be back to Wine Village Motor Inn.

You have stayed with us for a number of years without complaint, but because one of your group decided to stay at another venue that does not have the facilities we do, you have taken offence to our policy. Please note the Guest in question when they cancelled their booking with us was told in an email of our policy and accepted it. Our motel is Guest positive and not Visitor positive. Why should anyone expect to stay at another accommodation provider in town and come and use our facilities? All others in your group accepted the policy. When told on check in you were offered a full refund and were able to stay elsewhere, you chose to stay. We as Owners , not Managers , want our Guests to have the Best use of All our facilities without having to vie for those facilities with Visitors. Yes you are disappointing and narrow minded.

Called into town for a 2 night stay on the weekend of the music buskers heat. It wasn't intentional but turned out to be fun. This motel is close enough to just walk up the main street in an easy flat walk. It is on the main road but traffic noise was not a problem. An old style motel with smallish rooms which have been completely refurbished and spotlessly clean. The King bed was very comfortable and obviously new and plush with topper. Huge screen TV with Netflix was a bonus in the wet weather. It is a motel with the convenience of drive up to your door. I would like to return here in good weather because the garden and pool area is very inviting, especially I would think for groups. The hand-basin is outside of the bathroom and doubles as a sink. All I can say is, go out for breakfast!

What a wonderful place to stay - staying two nights so we could sample the local dining and wines. The rooms are spacious, clean and have all the amenities advertised. For dining options reception advised us that Tuileries restaurant, across the road, and the Poachers Paradise hotel were the best options; we tried both and were not disappointed. Both highly recommended.
A breakfast pack is offered at $10 and is worth it giving you a nice, light start to the day. Thank you to all the staff at Wine Village.

A wonderful place to stay. The owner here knows how to run a Motor Inn. We've stayed here 4 times and will continue to go back. The recent refurbishment was fantastic and attention to detail brilliant with biscuits provided for your tea & coffee and even perfume diffusers in the room. Its great to see the owner reinvesting in the place and making the guests feel special & welcome. Well done - we will be back...! Mayda
