Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Laurel and the team at Athelstane made us very welcome as they did when we stayed last November, the room was lovely, the breakfast fantastic. The location is perfect for wandering around Queenscliff, meeting friends and just checking out the local restaurants, cafes and shops

Very easy, self check in. Such a lovely, quaint building. Our balcony room was beautiful. It had everything we needed. The lounge room was equipped with books, microwave & ice machine. The included breakfast was sensational. However the best part was our wonderful host who was so warm & engaging at breakfast. We will most certainly be back next time we visit Queenscliff.

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely, historic B&B. Our room was really well presented and very clean. The breakfast was lovely with enough options to satisfy everyone. We found the accommodation very peaceful and quiet and in a great location. It was great being about to walk everywhere. Lots of street parking out the front plus a small carpark on site. There’s a lovely garden area with chairs and tables. The only comment I could make regarding the room was the mattress was a little bit soft and uncomfortable… but of course than might come down to personal preference! Thank you Athelstan House for a lovely stay. We will be returning for sure.

The room was large, quiet and clean. The breakfast was to die for and the staff were professional, friendly and very helpful. Just a short walk to the Main Street and restaurants. The 360Q restaurant was excellent and we cannot recommend these 2 places enough in the lovely beachside town of Queenscliff.

Just off the main street, walking distance to pretty much everything in Queenscliff. Athelstone is an old two story guest house that has wonderful character that matches the area. The interior has been "modernised" but still retains the historic feeling, high ceilings, narrow staircase, a few creaks in the floorboards etc. We stayed in room 2 that has a semi-private balcony overlooking the street. The room was quite small but very comfortable and clean and really not an issue for a short stay. Be aware that all rooms are on the second floor requiring stairs (no lift) - didn't worry us, but maybe an issue for some. Make sure you include breakfast - I hade the creamy mushrooms with eggs and my wife the pancakes. Both were fantastic! As we are still thinking "Covid" there is a contactless check in/out system and minimal staff. The young lady who served breakfast was very friendly and welcoming.

My husband and I stayed here on a weekend away in November. We had a room upstairs, with a queen bed and an ensuite. The room itself was very small, and the floor boards were so creaky we were worried the people underneath us would be annoyed by us. We didn't actually interact with any staff the whole time we were there - due to COVID there was a faceless check in and check out procedure. There isn't much choice in Queenscliff for really nice accommodation, and this place fits the bill for a B'n'B. We walked everywhere, including to and from the Q-Train (HIGHLY RECOMMEND). Breakfast was nice and the staff very friendly, they catered to my husband's gluten free needs easily.

We were desperate for a getaway, after previously being thwarted by CoVid. We stayed in the Courtyard room, on the ground floor, which proved ideal - very quiet, a good bed and mattress, with fridge, TV, tea and coffee making. EXCELLENT breakfasts served by our charming host. The whole stay was an absolute delight. Highly recommended. I deserves to be very successful.
