Booked a "Hotel Room" at Portsea Hotel in February (Australian Summer) and stayed for one night. "Hotel Room" is the most basic level of lodging fro the hotel and has a shared bathroom. The room was very spacious with a single window that looked into the middle of the building with heating and cooling vents & such (not much to look at, but no big deal) Comfortable bed and pillows. Room has a sink, coffee maker and kettle, and some yummy coconut (packaged) cookies. Down the hall is a communal shower (2) sinks and toilets. I found it clean and acceptable. The rooms are located on the 2nd (1st european) floor and it is WARM, as there is NO A/C. Honestly, I kind of assumed there was A/C, but upon closer inspection of the website, it's the only accomodation they have that isn't cooled with A/C...this is why it's cheaper. I opened my window, as well as finding a hallway window to open, and kept my door cracked for a little while. Didn't help much but it wasn't unbearable. The hotel should try and find a way to suck the cool ocean air into this floor in the evenings to help mitigate the heat. Just my 2 cents. The restaurant areas and patio are FABULOUS! Nice lawn and BEAUTIFUL view of the ocean. Service was fast and food decent. All in all I would reccommend this place. (Also, don't miss the millionaire's walk in Sorrento. The hotel has brochures on stuff to do in the lobby)

Restaurant was nice. Empty but food and service was good. View from lawn is the hotel’s highlight.

Watch out if you get given room 34. Basically internal with no outside outside view as opens onto aircon and extractor units. They calm down late but never fully stop. Worth complaining as we got given a $90 bottle of wine without so much a sniff of resistance.

I arrived at the Portsea Hotel with my wheelchair bound Mother and my special needs son to enjoy lunch.....the staff and the food and the atmosphere are always outstanding however for a venue worth in excess of 100 million it has to have one of the worst wheelchair a accessibility I have ever come across. I am a structural engineer with years of experience and ramps would be an easy installation, I find it shamefull as people with Disabilities/special needs have it hard enough in life and when I encounter a place like this i feel the need to advocate for others less fortunate. I also did an informal risk assessment of the main indoor dining area and although there are male and female toilets available there are no toilets available with wheelchair access how ever I was told there are wheel chair accessible toilets down multiple flights of stairs towards the front of the building again simply not accessible or acceptable. Maybe the property owners could address this issue as I can clearly see money in this venue is not an issue, shame on the owners for making life more difficult for people who already have a difficult life.

Chicken Parmigiana (parmi)

If the parmi is the signature pub meal for pubs across Victoria, the Portsea hotel has let this meal completely down!

Do not order this meal if you are chasing a parmi!

The chicken was dry and over cooked and sauce was too sweet and did not have the tantalising taste, juiciness and flavour that is synonymous across Victoria for this meal.

Portion was scabby and awful presentation of an overpriced cheap meal.

I did tell the wait staff about this, but it seems like they were indifferent.

I could not possibly eat the whole meal so I left half of it and was very disappointed.

I drove over two hours to catch up with my family members who live in that area and I have to say you should pick up your act; sorry, but I cannot recommend your establishment.

The only thing that you really have going for this place is the view and the drinks, forgetthe meals.

Perhaps the chef should eat his own creations, and some of the other meals that are at the pub such as the pizzas which were like blind-bake pizza, before dishing this out to patrons, my family were not overly impressed with the food either.

Let’s face it everyone has bad days but based on the reviews you must have a few bad days.

5 of us ordered (& paid for) food & drink using the QR code on the (outside) table. No customer service. Two ordered the meat pie which both reported to be inedible. Tasteless meat in a small dish with an unappetising pastry lid. Squid was disappointing. Chicken parmy was OK, just. Meatballs were reportedly OK. Salad was, well, salad. I received the smallest G&T I’ve ever seen & it tasted terrible. At $15 I took it back to the bar because it tasted of soda. Turns out the tap (yes, post-mix .. no bottles/cans of real tonic) had run out of the ‘tonic syrup’. The whole experience was of a poor standard and none of us will go there again. My order for a chicken parmy + bowl of (ordinary) chips for the table + tiny G&T came to $65.

They don’t know what an entree is as they serve everything together… and the food was mediocre at best .
This is just an up market pub with some good views!
Don’t bother with the prawn and crab cocktail… very pricey and no prawns in sight just a chopped mess and lots of lettuce….
We won’t be back !!

Very disappointing, rooms are box rooms with only a plug in heater for warmth, it seems like they decided to try and double their profits by dividing all their original rooms in two. The shared mens bathroom is halfway around the hotel. There are some beautiful fireplaces downstairs in the pub and dining room however the food is average at best and very expensive as is the alcohol. $15 dollars for a pint and $50 for a steak that was like a lump of plastic. Don’t charge 5 star prices if you are providing a 2 star experience! To be fair to the staff they were all very pleasant and are trying their best.

Appalling service for dinner. Staff don’t care. Waited more than 1 and a half hours for our friends dinner to arrive after ours was served within 20 minutes. Offered my money back on my cold chicken shitzle but staff disappeared when I wanted to take up the offer.
How do they get away with poor service at a premium price. Babatch cost $20 bucks at Dans but they charge you $60.
Will never go back and suggest management take this on and fix it , but I don’t care for me but others going in blind will be ripped off good and proper.

View was nice but that was it. Service is poor. Food is poorer and everything is overpriced. In my opinion come for one drink and move on. Chicken burger was sad, kids meals were 17$ But they gave you nothing more than any other pub that changes 12$. Pretentious much.

It’s such a shame that a venue as beautiful as this can’t deliver when it comes to the food. I ordered the ‘winter salad’, and ended up with a plate of chunky radicchio which was rotten on the edges, and a few other bits and pieces which were dry and tasteless. There was no dressing on the salad, so on asking the staff if the salad usually comes with a dressing, they looked at the menu description and told me that the menu doesn’t mention a dressing, so no. I explained to them that when you order a salad, you assume it comes with some sort of dressing. They said they would talk to the chef, headed off, then returned with a small dish of ‘dressing’. After pouring it all over my salad, I found that it was simply vegetable oil of some kind, making my salad oily, still tasteless, and pretty much inedible.
