This is a really mixed bag and it's very unlikely that will be using this accommodation again.

A last minute change of plans on a business trip had us madly phoning to find a suitable accommodation in Port Albert on the day only to find that many accommodation proprietors had left for their own holidays in the low season. Thankfully, the Angler's Arms and Fisherman's Cottage were operating and agreed to made a cabin ready for us.

Our first impression was a brief conversation over the phone when making the booking which was more matter of fact than warm and welcoming. Next was the odd practice of extracting the two days fee for our stay from the credit card before we arrived instead of holding the numbers for security and invoicing on departure. We never saw anyone tending to the premises for the two days we were there which was a first for us.

But these quips are more about persona and admin and could easily be forgotten had the accommodation reflected the promise of reviews we read of it and their website which we believe it falls short of.

We had the raised cabin with views of the wetlands which is the more expensive of their accommodation. A good hot water system and a three sided car port were pluses. The view was pleasant and the bed was nicely made. The establishment, however, does have building plots between it and the wetlands that once built on these may compromise the aspect. By the way, this is a bring your own linen operation, for an extra $20 they provided the service and the linen for us which wiped out the off-season discount by all but $10.

The location of the Angler's Arms & Fisherman's Cottage is good. It's a short walk to the end of main pier were one of the better fish and chippies is to be found (although they do use a mix of animal fats with the vegetable oils to fry in which may not go down well with the health conscious). It's literally opposite the jetties and launch ramps which will please the angler. The walking trail along the wet lands is just behind the accommodation and really worth strolling.

Unfortunately, the cabin did not show signs of being well maintained with many of the fixtures and fittings looking dated. Even the sofa, which looked promising, had lost it's youth with tired foam padding and signs of a makeshift repair to the frame. Fortunately the bed was firm and still very serviceable. Simple maintenance checks (e.g. working light bulbs) had not been carried out with the laundry (where the fuse box was that we did need to access one evening) did not have a working light.

Cleanliness was a bit of an issue too. The shower recess was affected by mildew and the stove still had grease about the fascia and dials from the last guests. However, all the pots, pans, china and cutlery were clean and plentiful.

Had the upkeep been better, the service had a smile and the cleanliness up to scratch we'd have rated the establishment as possibly very good. As it is, it is only the fact that they accommodated us at the last minute that makes it seem unfair to rate the place as poor.

Having had a good look around the available accommodation in Port Albert and what they offer, the Angler's Arms and Fisherman's Cottage did not appear to offer good value for money against it's competition, but will know for sure when, on our next visit, we try another establishment offering more for a comparable tariff.

We stayed here on 2 nd May for a wedding in Angler 2 while the unit is a good size with 2 double rooms nothing puts me off more than a dirty toilet yes the toilet had urine stains under the lid so it obviously hadn't been cleant front he last people also grotty marks on the wall near the toilet roll holder and around the light switch was filthy didn't appear to have been ever wiped over Plus hair all over the floor I know these are little things but it's basic hygiene and something that takes only minutes to do so,when you pay $175 for one night you expect this to be done. Despite this the kitchen was really well equipped our bed linen to my surprise after the bathroom experience was clean .

We stayed at the 2 bed cottage on the Main Street, with family and dogs. The cottage had everything that we needed, comfortable beds and linen as well as good kitchen set up. Overall a pleasant stay! Watch out for the rooster that must reside nearby which took a bit of getting used to at the crack of dawn 😂

Expectations of this place was high, don’t be fooled by the advertising. The place is not clean with rubbish under the bed and dust built up over years of not being cleaned. The crockery stuck to the shelves and had to be recleaned, the stale smell as you enter was old carpet and mould. The property hasn’t been maintained or looked after for years as it is in a decrepit state with broken window handles can’t close in a cold winters climate, the shower leaks water all over the bathroom floor. The bin is missing a lid and the kitchen equipment is lacking. Stay someone else there as there are many new and gorgeous properties on the street that have owners that care and spend money to make them nice for their visitors.

Navigator281830, this review must be for your stay somewhere else because our property has not been accepting guests over the last 2 years due to it being occupied by a long term tenant. Could you please move it to the appropriate property as we are now preparing to make the property available for short term stays again.

There are 3 cottages at the property and they are right in the town centre. Ours was Adler 2 and was big, very clean, cosy and well equipped. Dogs are welcome, also inside. The owner even gave my doggy lamb bones! The price we've been agreed was also cheaper than what advertised on the website ($120 instead of $140 a night).
Port Albert itself doesn't offer much to do unless you like fishing but it's a good base to visit the area.
We had a very pleasant and relaxing stay.

Stayed as a family of three adults for two nights in the Fisherman's Cottage last August. We felt the property did not present as well as indicated on the website and was not good value when linen hire was added to the cost. The living area was cramped for three of us not helped by wild weather which kept us inside. Had heavy wind during one night and we felt the building moving which was unacceptable. The bathroom and main bedroom were ok but the loft bed arrangement was very basic and not easy to access up the ladder. The interior of this unit needs to be completely updated to improve its value for money. The location of the property is very good being within walking distance of both the Port Albert Hotel, Port Albert Cafe & Wine Bar and the pier area. Will not use this accommodation again.

We stayed for two nights over the weekend and were glad to find somewhere that allowed pets. The location is great- directly opposite the waterfront and beautiful morning sunrise views. Short walk to café for breakfast. We stayed in the one bedroom unit and the owners put a fold up bed in the dining area for our 4 year old which was perfect and our baby slept in with us. The unit had mostly what we needed, kitchen with oven, stove, microwave and full sized fridge and freezer. Whilst the kitchen had pots and pans, the fry pan was tiny and just squeezed in two eggs so a bigger one would be a good addition as would a chopping board as there was none. The place was cozy and neat but could do with a spring clean, the blinds and window sills were pretty dirty and cobwebs on most surfaces. The walls were pretty thin and we could hear the people in unit 2 shouting and listening to music until 3am however it wasn't loud enough to keep us up and our son slept through it and his head was right near the connecting door. I would stay here again simply because it's cheap, allows dogs and is in a great spot. If you expect a $100 per night standard you won't be disappointed. It's hard to find accommodation for that price these days. We enjoyed our stay.

Stayed here two nights for a wedding.. When booking had to pay 50% then had to pay remaining balance a few days before.. We decided to bring our own linen.. As it costs extra for linen.. Stayed with our 10 month old..

Ill start with the pro's :
- great location
- split system works
- good size cottage (angler 1)
- bbq
- bed was very comfy

Now for the cons:
- dirty door and windows (glass)
- stained cushions
- fridge does not close properly
- no handwash in bathroom
- filthy shower mat
- found blood on mattress protector
- blood on bathroom door
- water continuously on the toilet seat after flushing
- creaky floors
- hubby had to vaccuum as our 10 month old was covered in fibers and hair (looked like animal)
- dusty shelves and surfaces
- white blinds so no sleep ins
- a little noisy with being right on the main street in the front cottage
- stained couch
- water kept going hot and cold while showering (not fun while trying to shower a child)
- poor shower pressure
- walls are filthy
- walls are very thin as when the neighbors arrived all we heard was their conversations and the door sliding open and shut

This is a great little find in a great little fishing village. If you are looking for a quiet village to relax or maybe throw a line in, this is ideal. Right across the road from the fishing boat jetty. Great views of the village. We stayed in the one bedroom unit at the front of the property, which has everything you need. It also has a BBQ & table & chairs on a small deck out the front, where you can relax with a drink and watch the world go slowly by. The town itself has a great little cafe with Very Good Coffee! Also there is a general store and restaurant with a fish & chip shop next door.
ENJOY!!!!

Your mini schnauzer will LOVE it. We’ve paid $275 for 2 nights for 3 guests in Nov. Hope that helps. 😊
