Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

It was really easy to deal with the owner during the booking process, and he was able to accommodate us for an extra night, at the last minute. We stayed in the motel section of the hotel. Our room was quite small but we had everything we needed, including fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. There were extra supplies in the hall. The guest kitchen facility in the garden was great. It was really well equipped with crockery, pot and pans, etc. and there was an outside seating area. We also used the bbq. There was a nice looking pool, although we didn’t have time to try it. Inside the main building there was a communal lounge area, and a nice looking restaurant. Point Lonsdale itself is a really nice place, with shops, restaurants and a well stocked IGA supermarket. There are coastal walks, and it’s a good place to start a tour of the Great Ocean Road. I wish we could have stayed longer. Finally, a big thanks for the dairy free Rocky Road that was in the room when we arrived. The biscuits were dairy free too - a great treat for me as I can’t usually eat hotel biscuits!

For the experience, location, and price, Port Lonsdale Guest House is great. It's not 5-star luxury, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, the shared facilities - especially the outside kitchen and BBQ area - and the care of management and staff are all more than you could ask for. And it was an added bonus to get to meet and mingle with other guests out the back, many of whom we found to be regular returners - always a good sign of a good place to stay. Booking and check-in were contactless and seamless. We have a 4-year-old and booked a family suite of two small connected bedrooms plus a shower and en suite - Miss 4 loved having a bunk bed, that was half the holiday for her! The other half was the guest house's spa pool: she loved the ''bubble water" as well as the pool proper, and could have stayed there all day instead of swimming at the front or back beach. We said she was turning into a sultana. While we were there the management had an arrangement with The Little White Float Coffee Van, parked outside the front door and serving the best coffee, lamingtons and donuts. Hoping it will be back next summer, it really added to the attraction of the venue although we didn't know it was there when we booked. All in all, a great stay at a great price, excellent for families on a budget. Combined with all Port Lonsdale has to offer as a still largely-undeveloped, old-fashioned but friendly, holiday destination, you can't go past it. Thanks Richard and team.

This was a nice clean comfortable room, in an interesting large house. There were several spacious shared living rooms including the front on with a wood heater and leather couches. Loved the pictures on the walls of historical shipping from the region. Bed was nice, shower hot but a little dated. Complimentary rocky road was great. The kitchen however was out the back and hard to find. A nice place tho.

What a comfortable and cosy place this is for families to gather. With friends in Melbourne from Singapore we wanted to head to a destination that epitomised coastal Australia: pristine beaches, surf and parks. The Point Lonsdale Guest House is located near all of these. The great thing was with five kids with ages ranging from 5-13 the pool, tennis court, clubhouse, sports equipment, barbie facilities and heaps of communal cool room space, we brought our own meats and treats and spent the afternoon and evening playing sports, catching up and chilling. With the kids occupying themselves for most of it, the adults were able to unwind and reminisce. Huge thanks to Richard and the team! We’ll be back.

This is a comfortable historic guest house with good facilities including a couple of nice lounges, a well equipped kitchen, and a nice pool and spa for the warmer months. You could tell that the hosts were trying very hard doing the little things just to make it nicer. For example, when I arrived it had been a long day with very minimal to eat so I was really happy to see a complimentary rocky road waiting for me. There was even a stand in the hallway with stuff like tea, coffee, bickies, towels etc just in case you were running short. In the evenings the hosts had always switched on the fake fireplace gas heater to make sure the lounge was nice and warm. Location wise it is about 400m to the lighthouse to watch the ships come in the heads. The bust stop coming from Geelong is about 20m from the front door, while the shops and the bus stop for the other direction are about 400m away, and it's a short bus trip to Queenscliff and the ferry. One thing though, bring some food with you. The couple of take away places were closed early in the week, while the local IGA is horrendously expensive. I hopped on the bus and did the short trip to Ocean Grove that had normal priced Aldi and Woolworths. The guest house has refrigerators and all the kitchen gear if you need it.

My Husband and I stayed in the Captain's Cabin, it was lovely and big. very bright and comfortable with a king bed and small kitchen. we loved the big kitchen in the back next to the fire pit (which we lit every night) we cooked breakfast and dinner in the kitchen and met some very nice people who were cooking as well. We were only going to stay 3 Nights but extended it another two nights as we were enjoying ourselves so much.

Booked last minute before school and weekend sports start! I knew it was old school however it was so so charming! I shared a family room with my 10 year old son our room were divided by a bathroom, deck onto the backyard which contained a clean warm pool, grassed area, tennis court, plenty of loungers and kitchen, fire pit and bathrooms. The room had everything we needed and more - could help yourself to extra things in the hall way! Yes it would be great to have aircon, however we were not impacted at all on average 23degrees. The dining rooms s as no lounge are so lovely and so much character. What I loved most after staying at a few BIG 4 cabins was the intimacy, no crowded screaming kids, characters but most of all the service from Richard who offers unprompted a discount as it was just the two of us and was in my account in days!!! Impeccable service! It felt like staying at a friends place for the weekend! 3 min walk to shop and beach! If in lower levels the foot traffic above gets a bit noisey but no big deal by 10 pm quiet all round! I love what they are doing with the place and will be back! Love the Rocky Road welcome gift! Great for tweens!

My husband and I stayed several nights while visiting family in the area - the room was warm, comfortable, quiet and clean - it provided everything we needed, including electric blankets. The building itself is a beautiful old building and the additional amenities ie restaurant, pool, tennis court, bar-b-ques, fire pit, well equipped guest kitchen seemed to me to be way above what you would imagine a guest house would provide - all of these are well maintained. Close proximity to marvellous cafes, the beaches, walks, wineries, Queenscliff boutiques. Would definately recommend and would love to stay again!

The room was the smallest I have ever had in a motel or guest house. there were no cooking facilities, and any meal preparation had to be done in an outside building. To prepare a meal in the middle of winter does not provide much enjoyment when it is cold and the grass is wet. Our room was immediately next to the door that gave access to the car park, and the door was very noisy, up until 10.30 at night, and noise could be also heard from adjacent rooms and from rooms above us. I would not recommend this guest house to anyone elderly or with a large family.

We spent a week here and couldn’t be happier. Clean, comfortable and such friendly staff. The facilities at the back were excellent, swimming pool, tennis courts, four bbq’s and plenty of seating. The kitchen was amazing. Great place for families to stay and not leave throughout the whole holiday. Great position, five minutes walk to shops and cafes. The on-site restaurant Flouch’s is a must to visit. The food was excellent.
