Detailed Reviews
This is a comfortable historic guest house with good facilities including a couple of nice lounges, a well equipped kitchen, and a nice pool and spa for the warmer months. You could tell that the hosts were trying very hard doing the little things just to make it nicer. For example, when I arrived it had been a long day with very minimal to eat so I was really happy to see a complimentary rocky road waiting for me. There was even a stand in the hallway with stuff like tea, coffee, bickies, towels etc just in case you were running short. In the evenings the hosts had always switched on the fake fireplace gas heater to make sure the lounge was nice and warm.
Location wise it is about 400m to the lighthouse to watch the ships come in the heads. The bust stop coming from Geelong is about 20m from the front door, while the shops and the bus stop for the other direction are about 400m away, and it's a short bus trip to Queenscliff and the ferry.
One thing though, bring some food with you. The couple of take away places were closed early in the week, while the local IGA is horrendously expensive. I hopped on the bus and did the short trip to Ocean Grove that had normal priced Aldi and Woolworths. The guest house has refrigerators and all the kitchen gear if you need it.

Stayed at Point Lonsdale Guesthouse for 2 nights last weekend - what a charming building! Our room was clean, the bed was very comfortable (we prefer a firmer mattress) and the fan provided good air flow. The ensuite was quite small, but that wasn't an issue. Reading past reviews I can only assume the negative ones were from when previous owners ran the guesthouse. The new owner Richard and other staff we met couldn't be more accommodating and helpful. Continental breakfast in the kitchen / dining room is now included for all guests and it is more than adequate. There's plenty of variety and quality with the food and drinks offered. The location is great - across the road from the beach and a short walk to shops, cafes and the foreshore. We visited with friends and we have all booked our next stay.

This guesthouse has a history of well over 100 years and the public spaces are clean and well maintained, but the room was very basic and needs updating. Not worth the approx. $200.00au you pay.
Pros: The location is great, just over the road from the lighthouse and jetty, and a quick walk to the Point Lonsdale village. The public facilities such as pool, dining room and communal kitchen were clean and well maintained. Plenty of car parking spaces around the back of the property. Staff seemed friendly enough.
Cons: The room was very basic and a bit dingy. No air-conditioning and the fan was too small and high up to make a difference. Door to outside balcony didn’t lock properly and there was nothing in the room to secure your valuables. Storage and general space in the room a bit tight. Bed (especially pillows) were not comfortable.

Booked last minute before school and weekend sports start! I knew it was old school however it was so so charming! I shared a family room with my 10 year old son our room were divided by a bathroom, deck onto the backyard which contained a clean warm pool, grassed area, tennis court, plenty of loungers and kitchen, fire pit and bathrooms.
The room had everything we needed and more - could help yourself to extra things in the hall way! Yes it would be great to have aircon, however we were not impacted at all on average 23degrees. The dining rooms s as no lounge are so lovely and so much character. What I loved most after staying at a few BIG 4 cabins was the intimacy, no crowded screaming kids, characters but most of all the service from Richard who offers unprompted a discount as it was just the two of us and was in my account in days!!! Impeccable service! It felt like staying at a friends place for the weekend! 3 min walk to shop and beach! If in lower levels the foot traffic above gets a bit noisey but no big deal by 10 pm quiet all round! I love what they are doing with the place and will be back! Love the Rocky Road welcome gift! Great for tweens!

I stayed in one of the ground floor rooms in the motel section. The owner was very accommodating in providing the requested room. Nice to have the very generous breakfast set up in the adjoining room. Bed was comfortable. However, noise travels from the rooms above, I could hear every footstep, noise and conversation of the people in the room above mine. This did spoil my opinion of the Hotel, perhaps the rooms in the guesthouse would have been a better option.

The restaurant is open Wednesday to Saturday nights from 6pm and has some very well sourced, prepared and served dishes. Chef Michael Flouch has a great pedigree for delivering classic food at his earlier restaurants in Mount Martha, Mount Eliza and Armadale and in country Kyneton (a location he shared with Annie Smithers).
Michael is an eighth generation chef, well known for his amazing duck dishes (among others), and this night he delivered a 10 out of 10 roasted 1/2 duck. The seafood dishes hit the mark and service from Kat was impeccable. Hotel guests have access to a small bur well curated wine list, and those coming for dinner can byo.
Look at his Facebook page and hope he does another duck and Pinot night and a Bellarine seafood night.
A gem of a place and we will return.

At the Point Lonsdale Guest House, Richard is everywhere and nowhere. Signs urge you to call him in event of problems, and his number was even on the fish and chip shop down the road (closed for a Summer break). Or was that another Richard? Richard's contactless check in went perfectly. We never needed his assistance. PLGH is an old building that was once home to the Lighthouse Keeper, his wife and their army of children before being converted into a Guesthouse. We had a lovely peaceful stay right after Christmas. The room was charming. Perhaps the mattress could do with a replacement- it's a bit lumpy, Richard. If your idea of perfect accomodation is the George V in Paris you might find this accomodation austere. I enjoyed the old style and the carefully curated maritime pictures and objects. Breakfast is only available during Winter. It would have been pleasant to eat some Cornflakes and cold milk with crispy toast and tea in the dining room. I suppose Richard has other concerns during the warmer months. The weather was wild (high winds and rain) when we were there and cleared to a fog (sea mist?) that lingered over the area for the entire day, even when the sun came out - quite extraordinary. There is a small swimming pool out the back, and a large fully equipped kitchen as well.
We loved our time there and have already booked to go back. Hopefully the weather will be more beach friendly next time.

It was really easy to deal with the owner during the booking process, and he was able to accommodate us for an extra night, at the last minute.
We stayed in the motel section of the hotel. Our room was quite small but we had everything we needed, including fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. There were extra supplies in the hall.
The guest kitchen facility in the garden was great. It was really well equipped with crockery, pot and pans, etc. and there was an outside seating area. We also used the bbq. There was a nice looking pool, although we didn’t have time to try it.
Inside the main building there was a communal lounge area, and a nice looking restaurant.
Point Lonsdale itself is a really nice place, with shops, restaurants and a well stocked IGA supermarket. There are coastal walks, and it’s a good place to start a tour of the Great Ocean Road. I wish we could have stayed longer.
Finally, a big thanks for the dairy free Rocky Road that was in the room when we arrived. The biscuits were dairy free too - a great treat for me as I can’t usually eat hotel biscuits!

What a comfortable and cosy place this is for families to gather. With friends in Melbourne from Singapore we wanted to head to a destination that epitomised coastal Australia: pristine beaches, surf and parks. The Point Lonsdale Guest House is located near all of these.
The great thing was with five kids with ages ranging from 5-13 the pool, tennis court, clubhouse, sports equipment, barbie facilities and heaps of communal cool room space, we brought our own meats and treats and spent the afternoon and evening playing sports, catching up and chilling. With the kids occupying themselves for most of it, the adults were able to unwind and reminisce.
Huge thanks to Richard and the team! We’ll be back.

The room was the smallest I have ever had in a motel or guest house. there were no cooking facilities, and any meal preparation had to be done in an outside building. To prepare a meal in the middle of winter does not provide much enjoyment when it is cold and the grass is wet. Our room was immediately next to the door that gave access to the car park, and the door was very noisy, up until 10.30 at night, and noise could be also heard from adjacent rooms and from rooms above us. I would not recommend this guest house to anyone elderly or with a large family.
