There was no signage or numbering spent 10 minutes trying to work out which cabin it was. While it was roomy, the cottage was straight off the main road, lots of traffic noise. Views were not great its next to a carpark. The decor was dated certainly looks better in the photos. We filled the spa, then when we turned on the jets of the spa black muck came out of them, we emptied the spa and started to refill to start again and the water went cold.. no spa for me! lots of little attention to detail missing - cobwebs on the veranda, outdoor setting rusty etc etc. For the price I expected and have had a lot better. No visitor information - Wouldn't go back.

When we rocked up, we were not sure which cottage we were staying in as neither was marked and no signage at the front. After a quick call to the Owner we were told Credo 3 was where we were staying. When we entered it had a modern feel to it and very clean although i could pick up on a old haunted house smell which i mentioned to my partner. Whilst in the bathroom and getting ready to head out for tea the toilet flushed on its own. We returned to a warm and clean Jacuzzi and had a pleasant night with the open fire place also (didn't get a chance to light it'.) In the early hours of the morning i heard heavy boot foot steps on the verandah which kept me awake for most of the morning! Had a lovely breakky at the cafe which was nice! There is a sewage smell still and this place does seem to have some unwanted visitors now seeing a few other people have mentioned the same thing which i passed off as maybe some random walking around wasted.

We recently stayed here to attend a local wedding. The accommodation is adequate and net or needs. I agree with some other reviewers that it took us a while to find it as there is no numbering (also difficult for taxis to find you!). Also the dining table is tiny and the kitchen equipment minimal.

Each year, my husband and myself go on a weekend away to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This year we had an addition to the family, a six month old, and this was our first weekend away as a family.
We originally wanted to stay at Lochiel accommodation as we had heard positive reviews, but were informed that there was no vacancy. We received an email from "Johnathon" indicating that some new accommodation had just become available - Credo Cottage Nos 4. The management group seem to have financial stakes in half the town - Lochiel Cottages, Credo Cottages, Credo Restaurant, Ranges Cafe and the lolly shop.
We were lead to believe that the accommodation was new, but a employee inform us that the manager had been living in cottage four. The cottage was suppose to include a queen size bed and dishwasher. Instead, cottage number four was "tired" and seemed to be currently being renovated - i.e the bathroom wasn't even fully painted and the retaining wall was falling down. The cottage was dirty - i.e. liquid stains over the cupboard doors and dusty floors. The dusty floors were particularly concerning with a young, crawling child.
In addition, we were led to believe that the cottage was a totally separate dwelling, but instead the room below was utilised for storage and office facilities, with people coming and going during the entire weekend. Definately didn't provided the privacy which we had wished for.
Finally, my husband and myself were severely bitten by insects during our stay. Since, the weekend, my husband has had to seek medical attendion due to severity of the insect bites.
I have endeavoured to contact the manager of Credo, via email, to express my disappointment. Unlike the booking process, when my emails were answered within an hour, I am still waiting on a response.

My wife, 14 yr old son and I had a month long holiday in Australia in Dec 2007/Jan 2008 in places that I knew quite well from my business trips or with friends. Our last stop was in Victoria and we hadn't booked until a week before we arrived because we hadn't decided which wine country we would visit in Victoria. I did want to connect up a friend outside of Melbourne that I met over the Internet through a car enthusiast site. I asked him if there was any place he could recommend in the Yarra Valley where he lived and he immediately offered Credo Cottages, but said he would check with a local travel agent since he hadn't personally stayed there. The next morning we received a glowing review from the agent, which was offered even though we were booking direct and not through her.
We booked on line and received an email from the owner, Alan within an hour confirming our booking. We drove up the beautiful mountain roads from Melbourne and arrived in Olinda, Alan met us at our cottage, gave us a tour of the beautiful place and provided us with passes for complimentary full breakfasts each day at the excellent Ranges Restaurant and a nice unlimited discount pass for Ranges lunch and dinner or dinner at Credo across the street.
The cottage we rented was three bedroom, two bath, large living room, a dining room, kitchen and a back yard deck with a hot tub. The cottages were built in the late 1940's so have a classic design, but were completely rebuilt from the bottom up in 2007 with a very modern, yet rustic decor. It reminded me of Denmark. A very nice 36" LCD TV, DVD and a full surround sound system for the TV, DVD and CD player with support for MP3 devices.
The cottages are located in tall trees (80'/25M) with plenty of foliage around them. Why is this important? It makes for a very quiet environment except for in the morning and late afternoons when very beautiful Rainbow Lorikeets, Umbrella Cockatoos and a pair of rare Red tailed Black Cockatoos leave or return to their roosts.
Olinda is a very nice town with plenty of antique and craft shops. All within 2-5 minutes walking distance from the cottages.
We spent four nights at Credo and we were very pleased every single day we stayed at Credo. It's extremely difficult to take our breath away with a perfect experience. This was one of the very few times in our lifetime of travels that caused us to be amazed at the comfort level and customer focus to the point where we were still talking about it weeks later.
If you want to experience the mountains within the beautiful Yarra Valley wine country, Credo Cottages should be at the top of your list of places to stay. We WILL return! Five stars and two thumbs up from this well traveled family!

The place was great however we believe it was haunted. We heard footsteps/scurrying along the floor at about 5am which woke us absolutely terrified. When we checked there was nothing there. Would not recommend.

It is also only half renovated. Do not expect luxury or elegance. It is not worth the price. I would suggest camping offers better value. We could hear every single noise outside the cottage from vehicles on the road, peoples conversations outside. We could have stayed in the city on a highway with the window open.
Finally any emergency support is not offered during the night as they turn the phones off. We heard an animal in the house running on a hard surface. it was not under the house or in the roof. I was absolutely terrified when this noise started. It continued during the night. after 4 hours trying to sleep we had to leave as we could not contact anyone.
The response we received was very poor. As the manager has a possum in his own roof, he believes it is acceptable for a paying customer to have an animal running around in the cottage. We have requested a refund of our night stay - this was not provided.

Response from CredoCottagesOlinda, Manager at Credo Cottages
Responded 4 Oct 2014
Thank you for taking your time to add your feedback after emailing us. At Credo Cottages we always have a can do attitude and go that extra mile. As advised we live in the beautiful surrounds on the Dandenong Ranges National Park. From time to time we have lovely wildlife that frequent the surrounds of our cottages, actually last week you missed out on seeing our resident Deer and 'Borris' the Wallaby! 'Burty' the possum who is very cute often sits on the roof of our cottages too. We do note that we did have an unfinished painted wall which was just repaired prior to your stay due to a water leak, unfortunately we did not have time to paint the wall before you arrived, all painted and finished now though! We hope to introduce you to the wildlife at Credo Cottages next time you visit, we hope you take advantage of our generous voucher we issued you as a goodwill gesture too!

Travelled as a couple early July 2010. Booked through their website (Credo Cottages). The cottage that I had originally chosen was not available so the owner reverted promptly to suggest Credo 4. It was not in the website then because it was very new & he sent me pictures & replied to all my questions.
LAYOUT : Credo 4 Cottage has 2 bedrooms (1 King & 1 Queen), 1 bathroom. You have to walk up the stairs from the main door of the house. Open plan. Surrounded by trees but it is off the main road. Not extremely noisy because this is a mountain retreat. Not secluded but private enough. Black leather sofas,
FEEL : Modern, clean, new. Floor lamps & downlights provides nice cosy lighting but is not terribly romantic. Comfortable bed.
Facilities / Amenities : Very new spa bath fits 2. Toilet paper, tissue box & toiletries, all linen supplied. Hose at the garage that you can use to wash your car & there is a vacuum cleaner in the wardrobe in the room. Small dining table for 2. Equipped kitchen, not the whole works but sufficient. Microwave as well. Dishwashing liquid, sponges supplied. Tea & coffee bags & sachet sugar provided. TV reception is ok. Electric fireplace keeps the cottage very comfortable & warm in the winter. AC for summer as well.
Tip: Bring candles to use in bath & around the house if you want to add some romance. Bring your own books, CDs & DVDs.
Breakfast : The rate comes with daily breakfast vouchers for AUD30 value and you can use it at Ranges just up the road. We usually have to top up just a little bit more for breakfast for 2. They gave us an added bonus at that time for an evening meal - perhaps it was a low season. Buy one main meal & get the 2nd main of equivalent value up to AUD25 free. They left a pack of Olinda sweets for us together with the vouchers on the dining table. Nice touch.
Parking : Free onsite. Covered for Credo 4 that fits one car, extra cars can park onsite but uncovered.
If I remember correctly, there is a cleaning fee imposed if you leave your dirty dishes & mess behind but that was not a problem for us because we always clean after ourselves, respect the properties & return it like how it was handed to us. Holiday rentals offer more value & enjoyment imho. They are priced about a hotel room or just slightly more & you get to enjoy the surrounds, space & you can cook / wash your car, free parking. Relaxing stay and recommended to anyone looking for a modern clean space in Dandenong / Olinda.

Stayed at Credo cottage 3 (I believe, the 2 storey cottage) & are overall quite disappointed in the quality. As soon as you open the door there is a terrible smell that thankfully fades as you go up the stairs, whilst I understand & appreciate that most people staying in the area may go out to local eateries for dinner, we were a bit frustrated with the lack of kitchen utensils etc. The decor of the cottage is quite outdated & masculine. I appreciate it would have been lovely & modern when redecorated but feel as though it really needs to be updated. The main thing that really bothered me is that I decided to have a spa bath, filled the bath & turned on the jets only for rust to fill up the bath & make it unusable, this was made worse by the fact that we were then out of hot water so couldn't refill & have a normal bath. The jets themselves are badly maintained & rusting, surprisingly so as the spa looks quite new.
Lastly.. If you stay here be prepared to feel very unsettled! One night my husband woke up to a baby crying & thought maybe it was our child even though it sounded like a baby, not a toddler, he checked on her only to see she was sound asleep. He didn't sleep the rest of the night. The next day he told me about it & to be honest I told him it would have been in his head. Two nights later, I woke up to the same thing, as clear as day a little baby crying for a solid 30 or so seconds! I struggled to fall back to sleep & when I did I was woken up again by loud thumping downstairs & footsteps up the stairs. The next day we read through a lot of reviews & honestly only a couple of other people mentioned odd occurring but we are still convinced that something odd was happening there & despite the disappointed with the condition of the property the only really reason we wouldn't go back is because of how incredibly unsettling that cottage is!

Response from CredoCottagesOlinda, Manager at Credo Cottages
Responded 24 Oct 2016
Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify that Credo 3 Cottage is a Single Level Cottage and the cottage you are discussing is Credo 4 Cottage which is located upstairs. Credo 4 Cottage with our great village edge location is contemporary and modern inside with No Olde World and no doily’s or lace, we are classed as one of the more modern options in Olinda while still having that cottage feel outside. It was unfortunate that damage to local pipework by a builder working on a new building in Olinda caused dirty water supply. This has been rectified now. Our native wildlife, being Possum’s are often very vocal and active at night.

We had a quaint little cottage with a lovely hot out door spa. Jonathon (the manager ) could not do enough for us to ensure we really enjoyed our stay. I would recommend Credo cottages for anyone wanting a winter get away or a summer relax
