All up a very relaxing couple of days away from home.
Our room was downstairs with an adjoining patio where we enjoyed wine in the sunshine accompanied by an eastern spinebill harvesting the fuschia bush, what a treat!
The rooms were very nice, very well appointed, bed very comfy with spare blankets.
Although it was February, it was quite cool and the gas heater did a good job.
We did find the bathroom a bit on the squeezy side and when we put the spa on, some stuff came out of the jets. It may be difficult for people with hip or knee issues to get out of the spa/ shower due to the high sides.
The breakfast supplies were excellent with a great choice and it was lovely to sit outside to have it.
Walking distance to the Pig and Whistle Tavern, 100 m and 200m the other way to the small set of shops.
Very good location, driveway a bit tricky to see coming from Olinda side.
We had a lovely break, thank you!

Ideal location for us as going to Kelly’s Bar & Kitchen for private event.
Lots of places to go from here.
Friendly hosts, good communication, recommend a stay there.
The host - Rick was very friendly, but not super-organised. We had some issues contacting them to make arrangements beforehand, and some confusion when we arrived.
The room (Mary's Room) was very quaint, but a little small, with the 4 poster bed taking up most of it. Many of the features listed on the booking website weren't there, which was a little disappointing.
Also, whilst it is held out as a B&B, it is more semi-self-contained accommodation. The hosts provide a selection of food at the start of your stay for you cook yourself. At a B&B, I would usually expect a cooked breakfast to be provided. There were also no cleaning facilities for the dishes used.
If you are looking for a quaint self contained room in a nice location, then this place is for you. The hosts do care and are friendly. It was just not for us.

There are regular bus services that connect the villages of Mt. Dandenong so that is a convenient option for those who don't drive. If you intend to travel around via public transport, remember to buy a MyKi Card from the train station before heading to Mt. Dandenong; you will need a valid fare-card (MyKi) for buses plying the Dandenong routes as bus drivers here do not accept cash payment.
DIRECTIONS: From Melbourne Tullamarine Airport, we travelled to MARY CARDS Coach House via SkyLimo. We had a smooth and safe ride in a clean and spacious cab. Our assigned driver was courteous and patient; he waited over an hour for us at the airport without a word of complaint! It was pricey (AUD 175 for a 90-minute journey) but we were impressed by their professional service.
Alternatively, you could hop onto SkyBus, an express service that runs 24/7 with buses departing for the city centre every 10 minutes (AUD 17 for 1-way Adult fare). From Southern Cross station, transfer onto the Belgrave line and travel to the terminus; from Belgrave station, board bus service 694 and alight at the bus-stop near the junction of Ridge Road and Mt. Dandenong Tourist Road. The entire Bus-Train-Bus journey would take about 2 hours.
BALTIC SUITE: Our spacious and comfortable suite on the upper floor had a French Country-style decor which was cosy and inviting. The French windows open out to a private balcony overlooking the picturesque garden. The balcony has a small round table & 2 chairs where you can enjoy a good read and a drink amidst the tranquil, scenic surroundings (provided the weather is fine).
The suite was furnished with a Queen-sized bed with a pair of bedside lamps; huge chest of drawers; 2 upholstered armchairs next to a glass-top coffee table; cabinet housing a flatscreen TV & a DVD player; wooden wardrobe with bathrobes, bedroom slippers, iron & ironing board; wooden dining table & 2 chairs; breakfast counter with 2 high stools; and a gas heater.
BED: comfortable with clean sheets, warm blanket and fluffy pillows.
BATHROOM: clean, spacious and well-lit. Furnished with the usual: small vanity counter with adequate storage space; mirrors above wash basin; hairdryer; spa bath; and toilet. Lots of clean towels, tissue paper and extra toilet rolls were provided. There was also a comprehensive range of amenities: hand soaps; shower gel; body lotion; shampoo; conditioner; etc.
Only issues were the weak water pressure and the difficulty in adjusting the water to a comfortable temperature.
KITCHEN: compact yet well-equipped with mini fridge; sink; microwave oven; small stove; toaster; juicer; coffee-& tea-making facilities. The cabinets are well-stocked with pots & pans; crockery; cutlery; and all necessary kitchen utensils ~ everything was clean and orderly.
F&B: room rate was inclusive of self-catering breakfast. The generous provisions included: big loaf of sliced bread with butter, margarine, Vegemite, assorted jams & honey; Kellogg's cereals; tins of baked beans; basket of eggs; mushrooms; yoghurt; full-cream milk; orange juice; and bottled water.
The F&B outlets nearest to MARY CARDS Coach House are Kelly's Bar, Olinda Pizza, Pig & Whistle Tavern, and Wild Oak Restaurant. We ordered take-away dinner from Olinda Pizza everyday of our stay; the pizza was delicious and affordably priced.
When in Olinda village, be sure to visit Pie In The Sky for its award-winning gourmet pies and exquisite desserts. You can also enjoy a hearty meal and warm service at Olinda Café.
SERVICE: Reservation, Check-In and Check-Out all proceeded smoothly. Prior to our arrival, Paula provided us with detailed information on how to reach the B&B via public transportation from the airport. After Check-In, she brought us up to the suite and patiently explained how to operate the various appliances, especially the stove and gas heater.
Paula was mindful of our dietary restrictions when preparing the breakfast provisions and also kindly lent us a brolly when we had inclement weather for several days. Overall, we found Paula to be a gracious host and her attentive service was much appreciated.
IN SHORT: There are many quality B&B up on Mt. Dandenong, MARY CARDS Coach House is a good choice for those who wish to be in or near Olinda village. You can expect a quiet, pleasant stay in this historic bluestone coach-house, at reasonable rates which are slightly lower than other properties in the vicinity. Book directly on MARY CARDS' website to enjoy special rates.
Complimentary breakfast is also included and is generous (when we arrived, there was a loaf of fluffy white bread (with lots of condiments), some raisin bread, some fruit, some baked beans, a huge variety of cereals, some yoghurts, a variety of different teas (there were a few mini jars of local tea leaves), milk and orange juice). While the site states that hot breakfast items (i.e. eggs, bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes) will also be included, this may vary depending on the price of your stay; these were not included for us as we were staying at a discounted rate ($130/night; $260 total) in their smallest suite.
Overall, this was far and away the best getaway we have had. The value for money is unsurpassed; I can think of nowhere in Melbourne city we could have stayed for $130/night in such luxury. Paula, the host, is a lovely lady, and very helpful and hospitable. We will definitely be back.
