We enjoyed two perfect days and nights at Woolrich, within easy distance of the six large Hills gardens we visited and walked through. The two-bedroom house is very comfortable and well equipped in all respects, its interiors peaceful, and its garden setting magical. The view from the large deck extends to the Gippsland Hills. We enjoyed all our meals at...

Just a very short drive down a quite dirt road and we arrived at the peaceful and stunning Woolrich Cottage Retreat, which is separate, and private from, Woolrich Garden Retreat), As you open the front door, a wide open hallway lit by one of the many art deco lamps greets you. Wooden leadlight doors beckon you through to the very...

Thank you for your wonderful review. We never let the cottage to two couple unless they come as a group so there is never a fight over kitchen space. Once one couple has booked the cottage it is all theirs. Except of course for the lyrebirds outside the door and the Kookaburras on the deck!

We stayed 2 nights for a romantic getaway and it was everything and so much more. The breakfast hamper had everything and so much more. The spa... is divine the best we've ever experienced and so comfortable for 2! The gardens and nature all around is just breathtaking. Highly recommend. We will be back in March.

Sitting on the balcony, or looking through the windows, over the lovely garden and trees is very peaceful. It is hard to believe this cottage is only twenty minutes from the outer suburbs of Australia’s second largest city. The cottage is self-contained with excellent cooking facilities and plentiful breakfast and gourmet supplies. Our hosts kindly asked our dietary requirements and...

Stayed two nights here, after finding quite by accident at the tourist info centre. What a find, it was a magnificent setting, and the cottage is beautiful. Lots of extra little goodies to eat and drink, and generous breakfast provisions. Ches was very welcoming, and then left us our privacy to come and go as we pleased. Thoroughly recommend this...

We were impressed as soon as we walked into the Garden Retreat; the inviting feeling, the lay-out, decor, cleanliness, huge spa bath; and food in the kitchen and fridge. The view is beautiful, including the colourful flowers and lovely garden. It is like a 'home away from home' and our stay was very relaxing. Mary and Ches are so welcoming...

It is difficult to sum up all that this retreat has to offer in a few sentences. The cottage was a lovely place to relax with friends. Very well set up, with lovely period furnishings, an ensuite for each bedroom and spa room. Great kitchen and beautiful views of the gardens and beyond from the deck. We even came across...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
WELCOME TO WOOLRICH RETREAT In Woolrich's historic five-acre woodlands you will find our two luxury retreats where guests will enjoy the very best bed & breakfast accommodation available in the Dandenong Ranges. Privacy, open fires, spas, ensuites, decks with BBQs overlooking the gardens and free entry to Cloudehill Gardens next door. Walk, laze by the fire, relax in the spa or soak in the view with a glass of wine. The perfect Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges getaway. WOOLRICH COTTAGE Built in the 1920s, the cottage's Art Deco features have been retained and restored to create this elegant accommodation. Fine furniture complements the period architectural features such as the Art Deco leadlight windows. The cottage includes two bedrooms with large ensuites, so two couples can enjoy equal luxury as well as an indoor, four person Jacuzzi hot tub under a glass skylight. The lounge room has an open fire, and a bay window with dining table. The kitchen has granite bench tops and a farmhouse sink. French doors open up onto a deck with a BBQ and outdoor furniture for alfresco dining with garden and mountain views. GARDEN RETREAT In French Provence style, the Garden Retreat is perfect for one couple with its king-size bed and double spa (separate shower). Miele appliances in the kitchen, leadlight windows, in the bathroom and bedroom, TV with Foxtel and DVD and a lovely open wood fire in the cosy lounge room makes this an experience to remember. Outside, the balcony, complete with BBQ, and art deco table and chairs sits at the edge of a canopy of trees. Walk down the steps next to your retreat and open the gate to Cloudehill Gardens or go the other way into the Woolrich Woodlands with its meandering paths, lyrebirds, azalea maze and the dell. OLINDA VILLAGE Olinda is one of the major villages of the hills. It is close to the winery district of Yarra Valley and Puffing Billy, a steam train which goes to Emerald. It is the centre of many famous gardens. Just along the road is the National Rhododendron Garden, there are many other national and private gardens which are open to the public. You can go and pick raspberries and strawberries in season, visit the trout farm, or see William Rickett's sanctuary where he created sculptures honouring the aborigines. It is a delight to shop in the villages which is full of all kinds of shops with unusual things for sale. ... more   less
