We recently stayed at the Penthouse Suite here. The room is very large, But it definitely could do with some updating. There was a broken (cracked window in one room.) would be dangerous if any one leaned on this. The furniture could do with some changes The tv is the old style and small and has a digital box. You cant move the tv from its little alcove so is hard to see and has been a long time since I have seen a video recorder in a room :), Lots of light globes blown or with no shades. One side of the electric blanket worked as we needed this as the heating to this large room was one small heater down stairs which really did nothing to heat the room and it was a very cold night we had to drag out blankets. The spa bath was good but took forever to fill as the water pressure very low.

The shower is in the bathroom downstairs which is a pain as have to drag everything down there plus there is no mirror in that bathroom so have to drag back upstairs to finish getting ready.. But there is one over the spa bath but couldn't use that as it just trickles water.
it is a beautiful place but is looking tired and needs the updates.
The people that run the place are very nice and happy to tell you all about the place. And I must say she does make a beautiful breakfast we did enjoy that. And there are a few extra snacks in fridge and pantry if you want them.
But for the price have stayed in many more that have paid the same and would do again but for there I think is overpriced for the fact it needs so many changes.
I probably would not go back again .
The Tower apartment looks nice and would probably be the one I would choose if did go back.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here and had an amazing time. We stayed in the camelot tower this is definitely where you want to stay. The views are amazing and the architecture of the building is incredible. I don't understand what all the negative comments are talking about. The spa was great. The views great. The hosts and the breakfast were all great. Absolute must for a little romantic getaway.

My husband and I had a staff function to attend in the Dandenongs so rather than drive back home late at night we would spend the night. We chose this place as it was close to our function. Even though the accommodation was beautiful there were faults and issues. One we were attached to the house the owners lived in, two half the lights and power points didn't work, three the bed was hard and the high windows had no blinds or curtains so we were awake at daylight 5 am, (so were sore and tired) Five, it advertises nice gardens to stroll in which there wasn't, only overlooked the tower itself and the old caravan. Six the continental breakfast wasn't that good. I would rather have brought my own to cook but there were no pots and pans to use the stove provided anyway. What's the point in having a stove if you have no cooking utensils of containers? Overall we were disappointed and couldn't get out fast enough. the spa bath was good but you run out of hot water quickly.

We booked a room at the Camelot Tower and Penthouse at Olinda. Vic . Australia, for a 60th birthday weekend away.

Due to a misunderstanding (the website and booking docket were seriously unclear), we we put into the Balinese Sandstone Suite (The name being a grouse exaggeration.) instead of the Camelot tower.

Ross, the owner showed us around, pointing out the views, which are clearly visible if you are prepared to enjoy them from the middle of the driveway. But definitely not within sight from the spa, as claimed.

The "gardens" are overgrown with weeds.

When in the spa, If you leave the blinds open, you can revel in the joy of admiring the old caravan and a driveway that gives absolutely no privacy from people and cars going past.

But the spa is large and comfortable and was clean.

Other reviewers mentioned the musty stink. We put our hand up to give accord to that. But you become "used" to it.

And "the bed", which if you are artistic troglodytes like us, you don't give a hoot about, other than it needs to be comfortable. Which it was. But to claim that it is worth $36,000, when Ross said he made it himself, is less than credible.

Ross showed us very meagre "supplies" including, to quote Ross, "very expensive" 5 miniature slices of bread. (We went out and bought a loaf.)

The cereals. ( Bran and raw muesli.)  Yuck!!  And in resealable containers that successive visitors use. We expect any foods to be in separately sealed packets

There were 3 antique books available to read. And some very old magazines. At least there was a bible, which was a nice change.

The carpets and rugs are old, stained and worn.

As to the breakfast. There was no order form to fill in. It was taken verbally. When we were offered breakfast there was a great emphasis on the smoked salmon. Maybe it was our sensitivity, but there seemed to be a level of annoyance when my wife said she wanted bacon with her eggs, and then there was another attempt to convince her to take the smoked salmon.

We were told to have our toast ready at 8.45am, so it could accompany the hot breakfast.

We were told that the breakfast would be brought into our room and put on the table for us. We enjoy our privacy, so when it arrived, we advised Ross to leave it outside the door

There were no tomatoes, no mushrooms, no spinach, no avacado. There were 2 eggs each, some bacon and smoked salmon. That was it!! Mostly plonked on the one plate. And a small glass tray for the smoked salmon.

Chickens lay eggs in various sizes. These could only have come from pubescent chickens maturing from chicken kindergarten.

We opted for going out and getting our own breakfast on the second day.

The television is mounted on a unit with wheels, so it can be moved around somewhat.

It is supposed to be a flat screen. That was technically true, but not in the modern understanding of a flat screen.

It was too small and too far away from the bed for us to be able to watch it comfortably. The DVD player had no remote, so to pause it meant travelling back and forth to it. While rewinding, replaying, or fast forwarding past movie previews, was not an option.

Those limitations made it difficult to use when in the spa.

My wife asked if I thought the serviettes were dusty. If you look at our photos, there is a crust of dirt in the plastic container they are in.

As we were sitting on the old worn couch, watching the television and eating popcorn, some spilled on the coffee table.

Unbelievably, and much to my disgust, I suddenly realized one of the bits of popcorn I had picked up and put in my mouth, was in fact a previous visitor's used piece of chewing gum, that must have been stuck against the dirty inside rim of the table.

There are two large windows near the ceiling with no blinds or curtains, so come sunrise at 6.30am, we were wide awake as our room flooded with light.

And the annoying glare, coming in through the glass, made it difficult to watch the television from the bed during the day.

The apparently "fully equipped laundry" was locked and only available to those on an extended stay. So not even an electric iron was available.

The stove was switched off, again with a notice that it was only available to those on an extended stay.

The air conditioner had a notice saying that it should be turned off at night. (On a hot night....that's just not going to happen!!)

The spa had a notice saying that you should wait 1/2 an hour after a shower before attempting to fill it.

The bathroom had an exhaust fan that would have challenged a jet engine. It was connected to the light, so if you enjoy a relatively quite shower, either you shower in the dark, or wear ear muffs while you bathe.

The shower was hot, had good pressure and was easy to adjust.

The "natural" soap was a brand we had never heard of, but it absolutely stunk. We used our own.

The bedside lights didn't work, so we had to get on our knees, find the powerpoints inside the bedside tables and plug them in and turn them on.

The light in the bathroom was missing its cover. The lights above the bathroom vanity mirror did not work. The pendant light in the living area was missing a globe.

There was a candle, propped up in its holder with silver foil, but no matches.

Did it have a romantic atmosphere, as the website claimed? Hmmm. If in doubt, read this review again.

When we left, Ross had no idea how to use the eftpos machine. I rang back the next day.  He took my card details and then told me that the charges wouldn't be put through till his wife comes back from holidays in 1 to 2 weeks.

We suspect that when this B & B was built it was probably really nice. But time has marched on and to cite an ancient text "where moths and rust destroy".  definitely applies here.

The subliminal message that came over to us again and again was that the owners were doing everything as on the cheap as possible.

The place needs a serious updating. And then also to have all those small luxuries added that would  give it a wow factor.

We look at the other reviews on this place, on Trip Advisor, and particularly the positive ones. And have got to seriously ask if they went to the same place.

This place was absolutely not worth the money we paid for it.

We will never be back.

Our experience is difficult to describe without resort to expletives.
Filthy, mismatched furniture. Rank, stained, bedding.
Took one look and left.
How this place got 5 stars is beyond comprehension.
Admittedly has a Well carved stair case, but only takes you from purgatory of the kitchen and the garage ashtray to the hell of the bedroom.

This has to win the prize for the worst b & b I've ever been to and I've been to A LOT (even overseas!) The place is old and tacky and attached to the owner's residence. The owner is creepy and rude and extremely 'tight'!! Dont expect any privacy either! Make sure you book your Olinda accommodation well in advance to ensure you don't get left with the only option being this place!! There are so many beautiful places to stay in the area so choose early and wisely!

It was horrific - Where to start, the drive into the property - it looks like a converted railway station, and not in a good way. My jaw dropped when I saw where we would be staying (would not have stayed had my other half not booked as a birthday suprise)
We entered thro a scruffy under cover carport, with plenty of shabby pot plants scattered around, and a cigarette dish on a small shabby table by the door.
On entry we were greeted with a beautiful musty smell. The furniture looked like it was found by the side of the road, theres also the array of fake dusty ferns. Then theres the horrendous kitchen and the piste de resistance is the hand carved bed which does have some wood in it but is mostly comprised of somesort of plaster that is formed to look like wood and is then faux wood painted - its like somthing out of some cheap disney ride. Then there was the spider under my pillow. Infact this whole place is a fake - its called sandstone cottage, when infact the reality is it has some sort of fake sandstone glued to the walls of what is the underneath of an upper story. Not what I would call a 'Sandstone Suite' talk about getting creative with the description - more like miss representation, I can only imagine what the 'Penthouse' is.
I am quite staggered by some of the reviews, doesnt seem like the same place that I stayed.
If this was a cheap option then you get what you pay for, but could have stayed in comparative luxury for the riduculous price paid. Will add photos soon.....

My whole stay was a horrible experience. I've cut a LOT due to work limit.

It was an important birthday and I decided to spend all my savings on two nights near the forest to go explore. The drive up there was fairly easy but by the time we had gotten there I was sleepy and excited to see the place. There was one big building that looked very average in the front, and I later realised all the other "suits" were inside this house. I luckily got the Camelot Penthouse, which is right infront of the owners backyard balcony, but at least separate.

The owner showed us around, whilst bragging & only directed his questions towards the only male with us, barely giving me and my mother a response let alone eye contact.
He spent 20 minutes ranting, and after he had finally left and I could start feeling slightly comfortable, he spent another 15-20 minutes finding the key to give us. When asked about breakfast, I said that I had called before asking about vegetarian options, and was assured there would be no problem. He nodded, yet starting calling me things like fussy and seemed very displeased.

After he had left all seemed well, I had signed papers including there would be 2 vistors and had a brief discussion that it would be birthday and I'll be spending it with friends. I started unpacking, very weary from an hour of trying to get the owner to leave.
Not two hours after this, one of my visitors arrive in a car with her family (including young brother & sister) and the owner starts panicking and aggressively telling them to leave. After I explain that they are not all staying here (which apparently was what he was worried about) and that this is just her family, he start repetitively saying "no parties, no parties"
He was very paranoid about this at the start and I had replied every. time. with "there will not be a party, please dont worry".

He stormed off, not to my knowning but into my suite! Without knocking or asking permission, I was trying to console my friends family that it will be alright for her to be up here as the family was now horrified by him. After I realise where he had head to, I run down and find him cleaning my balcony ashtray (provided), yelling things like "No smoking inside", "Why didn't you tell me you were cooking", "What's wrong with you", "You should leave".
I couldn't believe it!!
I tried so very hard to be polite but was definitely getting frustrated at this point and telling him to stop touching my things! He opened my fridge, my closet and started picking up my clothes asking if there was anything under there, it was truly unbelievable! I begged him to leave, and I think he only did after I agree'd to give him my mother's number (even though I am an adult he clearly did not respect me as one).

As the signal was bad on my mobile, as it is on the whole site, he stormed off again to use his landline but was back not half an hour later to ask a million more questions. He left with telling us repetitively that we are 'safe' because he has so many security cameras. It felt very threatening, and as if he would be watching us.

I felt so sad that this was happening on my birthday, silly for being too polite at the start and like I couldn't leave the house unattended.

When I was trying to go to sleep that night I also heard the LOCKED & LATCHED gate, not a meter from the front door, open and close. There were small colored see through panes on the door and I couldn't stop feeling like he was trying to spy on us, I had a very very uncomfortable sleep. This happened several times, mostly at night but once in the very early morning. It was definitely a latched gate.

In the morning, I awoke to him knocking and asking if I could sign the exact same papers again and insisting to come in to sign them. As I was signing he began looking around the room again, proceeded to turn my tv off and open the kitchen windows. This was another 20 minutes of relentless spying as I tried to get him to leave.
His wife came with breakfast shortly after, my breakfast was literally, no joke, 7 cooked Mushroom's on a plate.

There was much more but I think you get the idea.
He did in the very end apologise, and welcome me to stay another night but I couldn't wait to get out of there.
I remember just before I left reading a review that said "There's so many lovely places in Olinda, dont get stuck here!" and she was completely right.

I stayed here last year with my partner. I think the website misrepresents what the accommodation is really like, which is a modest "bed and breakfast" attached to the back of someone's residence. We stayed in the "sandstone suite" which was an extension of the owner's house and right next door to their garage. We were expecting views as portrayed in the website. The only view we had was of the owner's garage and backyard. The decor itself was hideous, musty and so outdated it would make Franco Cozzo blush. We were shocked when the owner Ross boasted about his "craftsmanship", clearly his tastes in decor differ from ours. His passion is admirable though and it was nice of him to show us around. We giggled when noticing a wall hanging circa 1975, an old analogue television and a retro 70s telephone. Our "suite" was huge and the facilities were very clean, albeit a little dust. We found the owner's wife Ophelia to be lovely and very accommodating to our needs, she woke up early to make us breakfast and she obviously puts a lot of effort into making the guests feel welcome. The place would be worth the money charged if given a little overhaul / represented more accurately on their website.

Hi All, well I've just returned from a night away in Olinda with three girl friends. On arrival Ross the owner rambled on giving us a tour of our suite with insignificant rubbish about himself, his craftsmanship and that he's from a wealthy family. After a nice evening out for dinner we returned for the night, and over the evening another friend had decided to join us and stay. In the morning we woke to Ross innappropriately banging on our door and barging in telling us we need to pay extra money for the extra person that stayed and that he'd been up all night watching us basiclly counting how many people come into the hotel. His wife whom was lovely then proceeded to tell us he does this all the time! So sad for Ross that this is what he spends his life doing - but regardless it was an absolute invasion of privacy and totally innapropriate behaviour. They were charging good $ for basic, smelly accomodation also and I would not recommend this accomodation to anyone or stay there again. The raving reviews on this website don't add up to what the true experience is like.
