We’ve stayed at the Royal previously, but this time our accommodation was in the 3 bedroom apartment. We knew it didn’t have a view but it was nicely fitted out, with quality toiletries and fittings. There's a kitchen, 3 bedrooms and a sitting area, The bathroom includes a full size bath as well as a shower, and a full-size washer/dryer. There’s a 2nd TV in one of the bedrooms. The beds were really comfortable. There’s a very comfortable couch in the lounge area along with a big coffee table, a couple of side tables and a bench with stools, but no dining table as such. The wi fi was fine.

It’s on the 1st floor, so access is by the stairs which are quite steep, so you might like to bear this in mind if stairs are an issue. The pub downstairs has music during the evening, so there’s a little noise from this until about 10 pm.

We were there in mid-summer, so it certainly wasn't cheap, but Mornington and the Peninsula have a lot to offer and we had a good time.

Overpriced menu, insubstantial meals. The servings are small. I don’t mind paying for good food but $26 for a 2 little pieces of beer battered barramundi and a small serve of shoestring chips is a little overpriced. The linguini was entree sized.
We all left still hungry.

We had a good family event experience in the Victoriana Room on 2 January. We think everyone was happy with both the food and service. The scotch fillet steaks and apple & rhubarb crumble were particularly good.

My husband and I decided to lunch here in the hope of experiencing old world charm. From the street it all looks very pleasant but not the service one would expect. They have a table app to order by rather than table service and this was unsuccessful as not everything could be ordered.
Ended up having to order the rest at the bar.
On delivery of food I asked about our entree where the manager came out to inform me I didn’t order one. Finally realised it was ordered and paid for through the app with the drinks that were delivered!
Entree arrived after main meal with no apology.
The steak was extremely ordinary and small for $50 plus, chips were soggy and the special didn’t even rate.
Extremely pricey and will not be returning.

The food is terrible, re-fried chips, steak tasted of old burned grill, pepper sauce was not pepper sauce. Drinks, glass filled to the brim with ice and then coke was served a half measure, beer was served the same.
Lighting was not on so it was dark, front of staff and bar staff were poorly trained. Overall the food is vile, poorly cooked and poor execution, cost cutting and poor management clearly having no clue on how to run a business. - hoping we are not all poorly from the food, please take note of all the posts and stay well clear.

Highly overpriced, poor quality food and bad service. We were with friends so did not like to complain then but are happy to now. We were encouraged to order using a QR code. Why do we need to do the work of the staff ? My wife, seeing nothing else of interest on the menu, ordered a 200 gram scotch fillet for $50 : you wouldn’t be charged that at a premier restaurant. It came with only tasteless pub fries. I was also disappointed in the menu options, and ordered gnocchi and meatballs for $35. It was not a very large serve and the tomato sauce tasted worse than that out of a supermarket bottle.
Also my wife and our other companion’s meals arrived quite quickly. I told them to start as mine should come soon. After ten minutes I asked a member of staff why I hadn’t received my meal and she questioned if I had ordered it correctly. After I told her I had paid for it, she went to check with the kitchen and told me they had not yet cooked it. After my companion’s empty plates had been removed, my meal arrived. No offer of compensation! Also the wine by the glass was quite expensive and served in very plain pub glasses. This was a very disappointing evening.

Just wanted to write a review on how disgusting the meal was I had today at the Royal. Extremely sad as I’ve been a local for 45 years. The service was poor, food was really not edible and extremely over priced. With so many choices in mornington, do not go the the Royal.

Hubby and I chose this over other eateries in Mornington last week Monday 3rd Jan to have meal , it looked lovely out on the balcony out front , terrible decision, ordered 2 x Southern fried chicken burgers $27.00 each OK thought we were in for a treat. They were served in a bowl "Burger in a Bowl" that's new , my fork would not go through crumbs coating as burnt to a crisp and when it did the chicken inside was barely there and tough as nails. Hats off to McDonalds for their chicken burger (never thought I would say that) Royal Hotel should take some lessons from them and just use a frozen patty. Never again . Toni & Jim

Dined here on Saturday 5th of December. Firstly there was an issue with our booking and our original table had already been taken. After being placed elsewhere we had to manoeuvre the new ordering system via our phones. This was not explained at booking nor on arrival. We all spent upwards of 20 minutes ordering drinks and had to re order each time for meals and further drinks, with no auto filled details as an option. Our Entree and main arrived at the same time. When I questioned this, I was told I should have made a request in the comment section for them to come out separately! Incorrect bottle of expensive wine delivered to our table and half my meal was cold. Was taken back to be reheated. I felt sorry for the waiters here, they were simply delivery people and looked very frustrated. I totally understand the need for change through Covid, however, at the expense of customer service this really needs to be addressed. What about those customers without technological experience, how could they possibly manoeuvre this system? For this reason will not be returning.

Ordering drinks, entrees and mains by mobile app from your table for a party of seven was not a good experience. Management is obviously making the most out of Covid with minimal staff and 2% surcharge on card payments when ordering by app. Anyone for dessert...forget it! Kitchen closed but no forewarning as one would normally expect. I have accepted all the reasonable Covid restrictions for all the respectful reasons that a good citizen does...but as one who has worked in tourism and hospitality, this was a disappointing experience. Very happy with our meals but unfortunately we will not return or recommend.
