We showed up without a booking, but that wasn't a problem, and were promptly shown to room 6 which was very clean and had a really nice view. The shower in our spotless bathroom had good water pressure and sustained hot water. If visiting Mallacoota in the next month, you could do a lot worse than stay here. After a month we hear the place is being completely remodelled and turned into apartments, so this may well be the last review of the Blue Wren Motel. Get in before it's too late!

Turned up at 4:30pm to check into my room. Lights off. No one home.... Rang the office number and the hotelier had taken some time off as he thought no one was staying because he had forgotten to write in my booking. Luckily it's quiet round here and I found alternative accomodation... disappointed.

Travelling up the coast from Paynesville with my brother and his wife who were down from Europe I booked two rooms three days in advance. We arrived mid-afternoon only to be told that the rooms were not ready. We went down to town to rustle up some grub at Café 54 and tried again at about 16:00, rooms ready this time. A young bearded lad seemed rather out of his depth and asked if we could go down to the town to find an ATM to get cash as his POS terminal had gone down the night before and he was too busy to get it back on line. Since we were the only occupied rooms at that time and we were staying three nights that did not seem a reasonable request so we declined. Breakfast could not be be provided and we would have to go down to the town for that. Oh ! and our host was going down town to get some milk for our coffee. Hmm ! Jayden what were you doing all morning ? Come Tuesday morning we brothers set off to explore the inlet by day boat and the ladies opted to explore by road. I set the "Please makeup this room" signs onto the doors and off we set. On return just before sunset the signs were still in place, nothing had been done and first priority was to rush downtown to get more coffee and milk for the morrow. At this point a family discussion decided that three nights was going to exhaust Jayden so we told him that we would move on next day. Yes, the view from the first floor was great, rooms 5 & 6 were quite acceptable but why oh why were such hopeless housekeeping activities allowed to sully the reputation of what seems to be a generally sucessful motel.

The location of the lodge isn't far from the town centre. It was really close to some of the trails that were recommended. Having the fireplace made it more memorable for us as we don't usually experience such things in our country. Do look out for the wild life at the back yard! It is lovely to see them roaming freely!

The Blue Wren is situated set back from ‘the main road’ running into Mallacoota so noise is no problem. Our room was on the first floor and an excellent choice make sure you book the first floor for $95. The view was great, overlooking the Inlet from the balcony and then breakfast inside looking out at the view what more do you need. The room was very spacious with a table and chairs together with sofa, a double and single bed. The kitchenette was very well equipped and the room was very clean. We walked down to the harbour front passing a Kangaroo in the nearby garden, then some Wallabys grazing on the harbour front before seeing a Koala on the boardwalk having a doze!! All in the space of 15 mins walk from the motel. The owners were very helpful and friendly and couldn’t do enough to welcome you. I would definitely recommend this motel it was a very well run establishment.

I had such a warm welcome from Joe, the owner, I immediately felt at home. He described everything I needed to know about the town, from places to eat to sites I could visit. The room was wonderful. There was a double bed, a single bed, a separate seating area with table, a sofa, TV and a little kitchen area. The bed and sheets were lovely and the place was so clean. I wouldn't normally mention cleanliness as its a given, but this place was spotless. The walls looked newly painted, the carpet fluffy and the shower didn't have even a hint of limescale or mould. They must work hard on the place. Oh, and there is air con too. At something like $85 I thought this place was a bargain.

Room was spotless. Large room with space for four chairs around the dining table. Owner was a hoot and most helpful. The location is great and only 500m into town. Easy walk. (Be wary of the Chinese takeaway in town - we didn't try the pizzas - but the spring rolls were not a good story). In mid winter the hotel was full - so book ahead. We would stay again.

I've been in this hotel with my family during a trip around South-Eastern Australia, and this has been one of the best. The owner is quite happy to tell you everything about the surroundings and better for you to listen to him. It has been thanks to his advice that we discovered (on of) the best beaches in the world: Murray beach. He also told us that the hotel is going through renovation, so next time we'll be hopefully here, it will be likely even better

Stayed here on a quick stopover and glad we did - a weekday in winter will give you a lot of options in Mallacoota but remember you get what you pay for and there is probably a good reason why the Blue Wren was almost full in a town of empty hotels. Firstly the hosts Joe and Cathy - lovely people who want your business and are just so warm, helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed chatting with them and their devotion to keeping their rooms to a high standard shows through. Secondly, the rooms themselves - spacious and very very clean - this is an older style hotel and the photos are spot on in terms of the style of the rooms. Our bathroom had been renovated and I can't emphasise enough how clean they were. There is a table and chairs, sofa and a food prep area with a microwave, toaster etc. The upstairs rooms give you a lovely view out over the lake and mountains. It's in town and close enough to walk to shops etc. We would definitely stay here again and thank you Joe and Cathy for making our stopover in Mallacoota a bit more enjoyable.
