Detailed Reviews
Our accommodation was excellent and beautifully appointed. Our hosts had everything we could ask for on hand, were helpful when needed yet otherwise left us to quietly enjoy our beautiful surroundings. Comfortable, spacious accommodation. Just the right amount of breakfast supplies and supplements to assist cooking for ourselves, as well as the ability to have cooked evening meals delivered if required. Enjoyed the birdlife and scenery once again and it is certainly worth the journey into the ranges to avail yourself of this peaceful retreat.

Stayed in the Mountain Ash cottage, fantastic set up, loved the warm toasty fire at night. Just what we were looking for, some peace and quiet, time to wind down and be surrounded by nature. We had the pleasure of seeing a wallaby, several lyrebirds and a family of kookies from our balcony. During our walk through the forest we heard and saw a variety of bird life. This is our second time back and we thoroughly enjoyed it just like the first time. Thank you so much Tessa and Stewart.

We have many return guests, some have been back more than a dozen times! We are very happy that comfortable accommodation in a peaceful and natural setting is so appealing to many. The cafes and vineyards of the Yarra Valley are 10 to 15 minutes away and a wood fire or a sunny spot on the balcony awaits, often with the call of lyrebirds or the singing of frogs as a background. Look forward to seeing you again.

Everything has been thought of at Lyrebird Cottages! I was so impressed by the attention to detail. We are so glad we held onto our booking through COVID and will most definitely be back. In fact, we haven’t stopped talking about it. Even the carpark is beautiful! The kitchen facilities are fabulous, the balcony is fabulous, the fireplace is fabulous, the view is fabulous, the hosts are fabulous ... the list goes on. We can’t wait to return!

With the heater blazing and the door unlocked we walked right in and made ourselves at home!
There were no annoying reception counters, no 'fill in your breakfast menu before you sit down', no tight little space to huddle in with the only escape being a verandah over looking a busy street...
This cottage was AMAZING!
There are so many wonderful little touches that I don't even know where to begin!
These cottages are a mix of mud brick and windows! Everywhere! The views are amazing, no matter how cold it is, you can't bring yourself to close the blinds till it is so so dark there's nothing to see but black!
What to do then? Order a meal! These guys make their own meals, you order, they deliver to your door and you chuck it in the oven, just like a home cooked meal! What could make a get away any better? Fresh breakfast maybe... All waiting for you in the fridge, with fresh bread, bacon, eggs and oranges to make some juice... ohh we were in heaven!
If I haven't convinced you yet that this darling cottage is now my second home then let me mention the private spa, with essential oils, and the bottle of bubbles in the fridge, or if you prefer a white or red you'll be happy too!
Throw on your robe and slippers, grab those extra blankets in the cupboard and crack out some scrabble before you jump into the most comfortable bed. With it's marshmallow doona and pillows, you won't want to leave! Ever!
There is a track that you can walk through, taking past lyre birds, wallabies and all sorts of wild life! It can get a bit muddy so I suggest you bring some walking shoes (not your pretty patent leather slips ons).
I could go on and on... But I wouldn't want to ruin the excitement for you.
Be sure to check the map before you book, this little gem is on a few gravely roads, and a little bit out of town... Totally worth it though! And everything you need is right there!
Lyrebird Cottages is a magical place! Weather you are an extreme romantic, someone who loves nature or you just need some time to yourself then you will love this place!

Our recent two night stay at the Mountain Ash cottage (Lyrebird Cottages) was all and more, that I had hoped for. Tessa and Stewart are the perfect hosts - helpful and timely with all arrangements, welcoming and friendly on arriving and departure, and ensuring you have everything possible you may need for a perfect stay before leaving you in peace to enjoy it all.
We travelled by rental car from Melbourne and found the cottage with no problems. The fire had been lit some time before, so the cottage was warm and inviting and well stocked with books, cd's, dvds, and even a sketch pad and pencils. Provisions for a complimentary cooked breakfast had been left for us - along with a selection of both red and white wines for purchase.
We love Aussie wildlife and were hoping for some close encounters of the bird, wombat and wallaby kind - and we were not disappointed. The first afternoon we had a lovely wallaby posing on the side lawn, and both nights a wombat and wallaby foraged on the front lawn in the moonlight. The first morning I went outside with birdseed in hand and the king parrots and rosellas appeared as if by magic - eating out of our hands and squabbling over the sunflower seeds. We were also visited regularly by a pair of kookaburras - one in particular of which kept a close eye on us.
We saw some wonderful sunsets, with the lights of Melbourne twinkling in the far distance, and even had hail which temporarily turned the setting even more picturesque and added to the cosiness of the cottage.
Just to top off our stay I managed to spend some time in the company of three lyrebird in the moments before our departure - so all in all, this idyllic spot has been the highlight of our holiday.

We had such a beautiful stay at Lyrebird Cottages. Everything about the cottage, the location and the hosts was excellent.
Tucked away in a quiet location-away from the busy town and surrounded by glorious Australian bush.
The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing and romantic stay from the spa bath to the wood heater, candles, a very comfortable bed, great kitchen and a deck with a lovely view -sunrise and sunset both spectacular!
We ate in each night after our wine tasting and lovely lunches in some of the local wineries, so we really made the most of our stay.
I can highly recommend Lyrebird Cottages. The hosts Tessa and Stewart were really great and very helpful.
We will definitely return

Great to hear you enjoyed the vineyards and wine tasting. Our in-house menu is ideal for relaxing in your cottage with the quiet of the forest and the cool of the mountain after a day in the vineyards or a day the Healesville sanctuary. Hope to see you both again when you are staying in the Yarra Valley.

Lovely location in the hills, albeit a dirt road to get there, but well worth the trip. Cottage has everything you need, but take the option to purchase the home cooked meals and eat in - you won't be disappointed.

Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. The last bit of the drive through the forest to come to us is often a highlight for our guests as they enjoy the tall Mountain Ash, Stringybark and Manna gums lining the road. Our in - house menu has been very popular. We are a 'nature' destination and many of our guests are taking time to relax away from busy lives and ordering a meal to enjoy in the cottage is very popular.

Delightful haven for those wanting to escape. From the fresh bacon, eggs, bread and homemade jams that make up your first morning's breakfast; the marshmallows and hot chocolate in the pantry; the champagne stopper in the cutlery draw; the essential oils in the oil burner next to the spa; the binoculars that sit in wait on the table to the warming glow of the slow combustion heater; the delight of waking to lyrebirds strutting their stuff in the grounds surrounding the cottages; and the views of the setting sun in the distance - this place is a touch of heaven. Hosts Stewart and Tessa are similarly delightful.

From the first point of contact with Stewart and Tessa to arriving and departing we found them both fantastic to deal with they were so lovely and welcoming.
We stayed in Mountain Ash cottage which gave spectacular views and alot of privacy.
The cottage itself we fell completely in love with the views were breathtaking and the
gardens beautiful, we even stayed on extra nights as we just loved our time there.
Everything you need is provided and you truly want to spend your days out but your evenings at home to enjoy the ambiance the cottage offers with the beautiful fireplace going and the amazing views.
This will absolutely be our favorite destination to holiday as it ticked all our boxes and more.
If you truly want to rejuvenate yourself this is the place to go.

What an amazing place to stay! It was so peaceful and relaxing, the perfect place for a weekend escape. The owners were fantastic, we were greeted by them on arrival and left to enjoy the place by ourselves but very helpful when it come to places to eat in Healesville. As there are only 2 cottages on the property we were unaware anyone else on the property. The breakfast provisions were great and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was the perfect compliment to our Hot Air Ballooning experience as we got to enjoy a spectacular afternoon and evening on the balcony looking back towards Melbourne and as night fell a spectacular vision of lights appeared. Should we get the opportunity to venture back to the Yarra Valley I'd stay here again!!
