Dropped into the Snowline Friday night on my way up the hill as I’ve done for years now. I walked in and it looked like everyone had just been to a funeral. No music and no atmosphere. Not many locals either. Had a chat to one of the locals that I knew to get an update on Hotham and the road. Tried to have a chat and it was hard to hear with both TV’s blaring with the footy. We had to step outside to hear properly. Hopefully this was just a once off and when I return it’s back to the vibrant pub it was.
My partner and I have just spent 2 weeks travelling through the high country, enjoying the gorgeous autumnal colours of the towns and the accommodation which was available. However, we were truly disappointed by this hotel. It is in dire need of refurbishment as the room which we were provided with had a dirty and stained carpet while the furniture had seen better days. The queen size bed was pushed against the wall which made access difficult for the guest who had that side of the bed. There was no proper bedside table but an old metal luggage rack with a lamp clipped onto its side was used as one. The wall heater was old, working on an economy cycle and had to be boosted every 2 hours to keep the room sufficiently warm. Not only was there no microwave provided but even a box of tissues was significantly non existent! Fortunately, we had brought our own hairdryer as none was there to be used. The hotel’s only redeeming feature was the quality of the food in its bistro. We had dinner there on 2 nights and kudos to the chef for the delicious food and the interesting choices that were on offer as specials for the night. Would not recommend this hotel as there must surely be others who can offer the basics which a traveller expects.…
Lovely Alpine pub. Great food good range of drinks. Accommodation is basic but nice and warm. Perfect for a base to explore the high country and ski fields. Close to Mt Hotham and Bright. Menu is basic but amazing.
Never being to the area before we had no idea what to expect. A little out of the main town and definitely worth the drive . The pub Staff were so friendly. Vibe perfect for a causal catch up . Tourist and local mix with no fuss , very welcoming indeed . Service is quick and Food was divine. I will be back
Cold beer and really warm open fire in bar. Great snow pub....friendly staff grungy feel to the pub food looked great with menu on wall. Carlton draught on tap. Easy to park out front. Didn’t have time to eat had to drive
