Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Clean. Great location. Friendly. There is a but...it's a never ending symphony of slamming doors. Every time anyone exits or enters any room, every other room can hear it. BANG, BANG very loud. Good luck getting any sleep.

Very nicely located and looked after YHA. Good setup with two kitchens and lounge areas, + great dining room and outdoor eating / relaxing areas. Ended up staying three times using this as a base for hikes on the Grampians Peaks Trail. Hosts are excellent and very helpful (and actually on the desk, unlike a lot of YHA where desk is staffed by other travellers with little local knowledge). Would definitely recommend as a great base to see the Grampians.

Out of all the Halls Gap hostels I've stayed at the YHA is officially my favourite. The place has a really good atmosphere and the owners are some of the nicest I've met whilst travelling - they were happy to share local knowledge and made my stay all the nicer. Location is great and the facilities were clean and well maintained - they are really committed to being eco friendly and covid safe. Also I booked via the YHA itself so the price for my private room was cheaper than what I saw on the booking sites. The only negative I can think of was the type of toilet roll holder they have in the mens' toilets. Will definitely stay here again!!!

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in in Australia. Well maintained, great location a short walk from town. Lovely natural surroundings with kangaroos grazing outside. Great lounges to sit and read by the fire on a cool night. Staff were friendly and helpful. Couldn’t ask for more.

My family loved it here. The hosts Garry and Kellie are so friendly and accommodating. The location is amazing. Such a beautiful landscape set amongst the Grampian mountains. The hostel is very clean and has everything you need. It’s like a home away from home. The Halls Gap Zoo was fantastic, a must see. The Grampians Adventure Golf was a good laugh. Fishing, swimming and hiking are all a must here if you enjoy the fresh air. Also the food and locally made drinks are worth a mention. Flame brothers, The Views restaurant are both delicious. As is the locally made wines and craft beer. Too much to mention.

I booked a last-minute getaway from Melbourne, post-2020-Covid escape style.
I saw that this place was available and it turned out to be the perfect accomodation choice for my 2-week Grampians Christmas holiday.

The owners Kellie and Gary were fantastic; they are lovely people and their whole family made me feel very much at home over the festive period. They were gracious hosts, always making sure I was comfortable during my stay and assisting with any questions I had about the local hiking trails and activities in Halls Gap.

I stayed in 4-bed dorm room: the room was very clean and even had a small balcony overlooking the back courtyard. One morning I awoke to find a couple of Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos perched outside my window! I had the room to myself for the majority of my stay and I can honestly say it’s one the most comfortable hostel beds I’ve ever slept in.

The hostel is in a great location: away from the nearby crowded campsites, it’s situated about 10 mins walk away from the main stretch of Halls Gap.

I saw plenty of local wildlife wandering in and around the hostel grounds: kangaroos, emus and deer in the area behind the hostel (look for the small red bridge), plus there is a beautiful water feature just outside the kitchen windows where ducks and wild birds often flock to.

After a long day’s hike, it’s great to be able to just relax on one of the comfy couches and read a book, stick Netflix on the massive TV (and I mean massive) or meet other travellers & backpackers to exchange tips about the best place to get coffee or the local sights.

Kellie & Gary have transformed this place into more than a hostel; it has a very homely feel to it. I found the entire place was always very clean & tidy, with a strong emphasis on the ‘Eco’ aspect: clearly labelled recycling bins; organic bins for vegetable scraps (placed in the wormery outside) and even free fresh eggs courtesy of the local chickens!

I found the whole place very welcoming - most people I spoke to said they wished they were staying longer. I will definitely be staying here again!

We are a family of 4 and we stayed for 3 nights at YHA Grampians. I found the kitchen to be the best of any hostel we have stayed worldwide. The pots and pans were in great condition, the cutlery and crockery were new. It was a pleasure to cook in such a clean and well-stocked kitchen. The 2 lounge communal rooms were large and well-appointed with couches for your comfort. A large screen tv had Netflix available. The family room was comfortable enough with a queen-size bed and a set of bunks. Even in the winter, the rooms were quite warm. The bathrooms were clean and tidy. Highly recommend a stay at YHA Grampians

Very nice hostel, friendly staff, and great clean kitchen. A lot of wildlife around the hostel (such as Kangaroos and wallabies). The location is great - only 20 min. drive from some of the best lookouts. We drove from Apollo Bay (Great Ocean Road) and saw all the highlights along the road, stopped in Terang at IGA to buy groceries (not sure if there are any grocery stores close to the hostel) and made dinner at the hostel at night. In the morning, we left early and watched the sunrise from Boroka Lookout, drove to Reeds Lookout and the Balconies, after that to Mackenzie falls and then Hollow Mountain Cave trail (remember to bring lunch and drinks, there aren't any stores or restaurants in the Nationalpark). That was a perfect day in the Grampians, and we were back in Melbourne at night. If you have more than one day, I would, however, recommend staying at the hostel much longer. It is a very nice place and little town to spend the weekend.

We had a wonderful stay here for the long weekend. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. The rooms came in a lot of different sleeping combinations great for families. The facilities were fabulous. Kitchen well resourced. Very comfortable couch with Netflix. Loved the recycling, compost and chook bucket. Garry made a fire each night for us to sit around which was great. Both Kellie and Garry were wonderful and friendly hosts. Thanks!
