Gariwerd Motel is perfectly located exactly where you want to be: in the heart of Halls Gap in the heart of the Grampians, 5 mins drive from the Wonderland Carpark (the start of the walk to the Pinnacles). We have KANGAROOS! Lots of them. They just hang around the place, looking relaxed. You can take selfies with them. We also have very fast FREE WIFI in all areas of the motel! I know, everyone says they've got free WiFi, but that usually means free WiFi if you are standing on one leg in reception with a Pringles can on your head, not AWESOME FULL STRENGTH FREE WIFI EVERYWHERE YOU GO! Still not convinced to come stay with us? Well then there's not much else to say other than go read the reviews, which of course you've already done, because no one comes here and reads the official description first. You read the reviews, then the official description. Actually I'm pretty sure no one even reads the official description. I know I don't. If you are reading this, please contact us and tell us that you read it so we know writing this wasn't a complete waste of time. My partner and I stayed here for two nights while visiting the beautiful Grampians. The location of the motel is a short walk from the center of Halls Gap making it a very convenient location. Our room was upgraded on arrival, and we enjoyed a spacious room with a couch and dining table and a surprisingly large TV. It was fit with a mini fridge, toaster/kettle/tea/coffee and lots of lovely amenities to make the stay comfortable. The managers were lovely and made sure our stay was pleasant. We will definitely be back.

I had a great stay at The Gariwerd Motel. The room was large with a separate shower and bathroom area and everything was provided - TV, aircon/heating, kettle, tea, coffee, towels. The motel is about a 10 min walk to the centre of Halls Gap where there are plenty of cafes, bars, restaurants, coffee shops etc. Kelly was a great host and met me at my room as they use contactless check-in. She gave me great information about the area but also asked what I was interested in doing and gave me specific information to make the most of my stay. Her local knowledge is excellent and I felt like I had my own personal tour guide! A very enjoyable visit that I made the most of thanks to wonderful hosts.

The Gariwerd is clean and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The heater worked well, lots of hot water, electric blankets on bed. The refrigerator was a good size (mini fridge), and there is a tea kettle, microwave, set of three plates/bowls/cups, microwave, towels, shampoo, and blow dryer. The beds are comfortable and the motel is an 8-10 min walk to shops, grocery store, and restaurants. The staff was very helpful…literally more helpful than the information center. They helped us identify the best starting point for our desired hike and recommended some trails that are not well known, so they are hidden gems. Was very happy with our stay and would definitely come again.

Sadly this is not a Motel I would recommend staying at when visiting Halls Gap.
The positives - Great communication from the Manager Kelly who from the moment we booked provided ample information about the property and it's surrounds. We were told our room was upgraded from a budget room to a Superior room which we were very excited about as I read on the Hotel Web page that the superior rooms had recently been renovated. The shower was nice and hot and had great pressure and the towels were fresh and clean but that is were the positive finished.
We arrived late (9pm) and were leaving early the next morning (6.30am) so it was really just a place to lay our head for the night but the room was far from inviting.
The carpet was badly stained with brown marks especially at the front door, the room had a funny oder (potentially because it was a 'pet friendly' room). We were travelling with our dog and paid $15 extra for the privilege eventhough this was not made clear on the booking.com web page which we booked on. I later found it was mentioned on the Gariwerd Motel booking page but we did not book on this. A suggestion would be to add it to the booking.com page too. The bathroom sink had a big black curly hair in it, the toilet door did not close properly and there is no exhaust fan in the bathroom so the entire room fogs up and condensation runs down the walls when you have a shower.
It was freezing cold when we arrived so of course the first thing we needed to do was put the heating on. This ended up being a 20 minute process. After following instructions given, resetting the machine, cleaning the filters (which were caked in dust - picture provided) we finally got it working.
Now I am not in the habit of writing negative reviews. Infact, I think this is my first trip advisor review ever but I felt compelled to write as I had read such good reviews about the Motel and in particular the emphasis on the cleanliness of the rooms. Sadly this is not what we experienced at all.

We had easy and detailed communication from the managers, with essential and useful information about eating out, the road conditions, directions and contactless check in. David brought us extra blankets and let us know they were there to help. The room was warm and comfortable and very good value. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

We had a great & easy stay here, in a family room. The access to the amenities kitchen was helpful for meals & the motel is just around the corner from central halls gap. There is electric blankets on all four beds which helps after long walks to jump into a warm & snuggle bed. Overall our stay was convenient, comfortable & warm.

The Gariweld Motel was a great find for our weekend in the Grampians! The managers were delightful and extremely friendly and accommodating. The room was basic but met all our needs, was extremely clean, warm and comfortable and the hot shower was well appreciated. In a fabulous location from the main centre, only a short, easy walk along a bike path to the local shops Lovely to see kangaroos in their natural habitat and a stone's throw from the main road up to all the tourist lookouts. An absolute bonus to be able to take our little Maltese terrier as the motel is very dog friendly!! If you want a fantastic, authentic Indian meal then highly recommend Spirit of Punjabi (thanks Kelly) while Livefast cafe serves an amazing brekky and coffee!! Gariweld Motel offers all that you require for a stay in one of the most picturesque places in Victoria!! Many thanks Kelly and staff!!

We had spent quite some time researching accommodation for our family of 6 in Halls Gap. I rang Gariwerd Motel with a few questions. Tony was so nice on the phone, I booked instantly. I immediately received an email outlining everything - contactless check in, complimentary microwave, toaster, outdoor fire pit, bbq, etc. On the morning of our check in we received a text message, followed by a message everyday of our stay checking if we required anything from fresh towels to dvds. With covid being an issue the office was closed but this certainly didn't prevent great, friendly service and we knew Tony was always floating around the venue. We loved the location as it is such an easy, short walk into town or across to the footy oval to view the kangaroos at dusk. The outdoor grass area was great for the kids to kick the footy and sit around the fire pit. Some online photos make the venue appear to be outdated but it is certainly clean and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We would highly recommend Gariwerd Motel!

As with previous stays, thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Gariwerd Motel Very comfortable qnd always clean Kelly and David the best hosts, friendly and helpful always The motel situated just away from the town centre /shops and the peace and quiet really only broken by the birds and they seem to know when its time to get up and time for bed Kangaroos always feeding on the mountains side of the motel morning and evening so you get a very close up view in the evening you are guarnteed to see many Kangaroos foraging on the football oval a couple of minutes away towards the town centre/shops Very peaceful tranquil spot a great base from which to enjoy the Grampians

We booked a superior room for 3 nights directly from their website rather than booking with one of those .coms. Gariward Motel provided a great no contact service in these Covid times. We appreciated their emails in the lead up to our visit & loved their humorous motel guide. We were really surprised with the size of the room, much more spacious & better equipped than a lot of expensive 4-5 star hotels. Loved that there was a table & chairs & a 2-seater couch in the room. The bathroom was spacious with a separate toilet & the bathroom mirror didn’t fog up! Would happily recommend Gariward Motel. (And we got an iron & ironing board, even though we weren’t going to a wedding). You’ll get that reference if you get the opportunity to stay here & to read their motel guide!
