Detailed Reviews
We have just returned from a few days at Glenview Retreat. Quiet and peaceful location and a great getaway for us, especially being able to take our dog too!
The weather was warm, so the ceiling fan plus air conditioning was very welcome. There is also a fire which I imagine would make it very cozy in Winter.
Breakfast supplies were generous, with cereals, bacon and eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, bread, butter and spreads - even pancake mix! There was also a coffee pod machine & selection of teas - oh and treats for our dog too!
Walks in the nearby forest and to Emerald Lake kept our pooch happy and tired.

We stayed at Glenview Retreat for one night in January 2021 - our one night away for the past year! As others have said, particularly for pet friendly accommodation, Glenview is absolutely excellent. It is incredibly well appointed, very comfortable, has a spa, lovely outdoor area for people and pets (it rained the whole time we were there so couldn't make the best use of this), and very generous breakfast provisions. The bootie of wine is also a very nice touch. It's a great location close to walks and a short drive to other parts of the Dandenongs and Yarra Valley, and restaurants and a great general store a few minutes away. We brought our dog and it was so nice to stay in a pet friendly place that was also nice for the humans. We will definitely stay here again if visiting the area.

Anyone with pets knows how difficult it can be to find pet-friendly accommodation that you actually want to stay in too. Glenview Retreat offers the perfect mix of luxurious indulgence for us whilst allowing our furry friend to stay with us, which definintely makes it a stand-out in our opinion.
The cottages are actually not two independent buildings as I mistakenly assumed. I later realised that yes, they are defined as 'suites', so if you are wanting a completely private, stand alone cottage, just be mindful of that. The cottages share a verandah at the front, a common wall and courtyard garden split in half with lattice fencing. We were very conscious of reducing any noise and disruption to our neighbours which was sometimes difficult considering that the floorboards are rather squeaky, the plumbing could get a bit noisy and our dog would occasionally bark, however for the most part, it seemed to be soundproofed adequately.
The bush setting is lovely, with abundant trees and beautiful native bird life. One of the highlights of our weekend was the frequent rosella and king parrot visits. Bood food is provided and we really enjoyed this aspect of our stay.
The cottage itself was immaculately presented and very clean. The kitchenette was great, with a little hob for cooking up our brekkie and was very well appointed. The coffee machine was fantastic. There was a generous selection of teas and coffee and hot chocolate pods available for my husband who is a caffeine addict.
The pantry was filled with good quality glassware and a dinner set and also came with extra thoughtful touches such as olive oil spray, paper towe, electric frying pan and torches in case of a power outage.
The gas fire was a lovely touch and really set the scene for a cosy weekend.
We received a bottle of wine, chocolates and a generously packed breakfast hamper upon arrival. It included eggs, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, bread, cereal, milk, juice and generous amounts of butter and spreads. There was more than enough for 3 breakfasts which covered our stay perfectly.
The spa was great and the little tealights were a nice touch.
The bathroom had lovely thick towels and fluffy robes which made our stay feel very luxurious.
The bed was comfortable and close enough to the big flat screen tv to enable us to watch tv in bed. There are extra pillows in the wardrobe for those of us who like extras.
The only slight disappointment we had was that the wifi didn't work, however I guess that is just a reminder to us all to "disconnect" and enjoy our surroundings.
Overall, we had a great stay and loved that we could include our furbaby in our stay. She had a great time too.

We were so looking forward to this stay.
We drove into a driveway to a house and saw the 2 car spots and cabin on the left. We both looked at each other and said “well let’s hope the room is good”
The 5 stairs up, both rooms are side by side and were greeted by “oh I’ve just washed the floors you must be early”
Well yes we were 5 minutes early to arrival time.
We dried the floors with a towel as we had to get ready for an event.
As it was definitely not ideal to sit out on the front decking we looked out the back and with the house over looking and neighbours looking into the not so secluded court yard, so we stayed in.
All in all it was clean and tidy but not a “retreat” that I have stayed at, more of a bed and breakfast. As it felt like more of a bungalow at Nan’s situation.
The kitchenette and food supplied to make our own breakfast I thought was great.

We were looking for a weekend away, not too far from home. Being two couples we found Glenview Retreat the perfect get-a-way, we each had our own cottage, and it was only 1hr from home. Being winter, it was cold but the gas heater was something to look forward to when we came back after our walks. The breakfast was yummie, the added bonus we were given wild bird seed and had breakfast with the beautiful wild parrots. Also, many B & B cottages we have stayed at don't cook your breakfast, but just give you the provisions to cook yourself. We took advantage of the BBQ facilities, which our Hosts Brett and Claire kindly moved undercover in case is rained. The chocolates, bottle of wine and the amazing coffee machine was an added bonus. Look forward to returning in the summer.

My wife and I had 2 midweek nights at Glenview Retreat, and could not have asked for better. The cottage was spotless and well appointed. The hamper breakfast - bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, bread, juice, butter, & spreads was certainly more than we could possibly eat. Add this to the wine & chocolates on arrival and excellent coffee from the coffee machine, and it was a real temptation to just laze around the cottage all day reading.
The retreat is set in a quiet, peaceful area, where the most disturbing sounds are the laughing kookaburras, and distant sounds of Puffing Billy.
Our hosts were friendly and helpful.

Visited August, 2012. Was perfect for two couples great breakfast, very cosy. The new owners had just taken over.
Returned last week July, 2013. Booked on-line. Received confirmation which stated we would have a fully cooked breakfast, then discovered they don't do breakfast anymore, well, they had already taken my deposit. For breakfast we were given 4 slices of bread, some spreads, cheap fruit salad, milk and juice.
I had enquired as to whether the BBQ was undercover, it was, so decided to have a BBQ dinner. No chance, the BBQ was filthy - cockroaches running around - and the fat in the base was mouldy. We tried to clean with the BBQ wipes supplied, but it was mission impossible, disgusting. Ended up cooking our steak in a frying pan on inside gas ring.
As far as the complimentary bottle of wine, well that just did not happen. The owner's have taken on outside work, because the B&B was not doing too well. There was no body there.
I had a moan, via email, their response was to upgrade their webpage and now, after my visit 7 days ago, offer Gourmet Self Catering breakfast with everything we expected. I will not be going back and suggest you confirm verbally whatever they give you in writing.

Response from GlenviewRetreat, Owner at Glenview Retreat Emerald
Responded 28 July 2013
Dear Disappointed Thank you for your recent feedback. We sincerely apologize that your stay at Glenview Retreat this time was disappointing however we feel that we need to make the following response to your concerns. In the booking confirmation email that I sent it was clearly indicated that Midweek bookings included a Hamper Breakfast Cereal, Yoghurt, Fruit, Juice, Bread and a selection of spreads. (Online booking form incorrectly stated Full Cooked Breakfast.) You had a query about the Hamper breakfast and after I gave an explanation your response was “That’s fair enough Brett”. The ”Gourmet Breakfast Hamper” you refer to is for bookings that are a 2 Night Minimum this includes, Milk, Cereal, Juice, Eggs, Bacon, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Bread and a selection of spreads. The email also details our cancellation policy and we would have provided a Full refund if you decided not to proceed with the booking. The same email also asks for guests to confirm with us which Complimentary Wine they would like from the selection we offer, we didn’t received a reply. The BBQ was checked the evening prior to your arrival to ensure the gas bottle was turned on and that it ignited correctly, it was running for about a minute then I turned it all off and I did give the grill plate a quick wipe, taking you comments on board we in the past have asked guests who use it to make sure they clean it with the BBQ wipes provided but I will be more diligent in checking and cleaning the BBQ. On the day of your check in I called and sent a text to the mobile number we were given reminding you that we were at work and providing the check in instructions, as you had been to Glenview Retreat previously and were familiar with the Cottages I didn’t follow this up with a call or text as I stated I would call in when I arrived home. When I arrived at Glenview Retreat I came down to the cottages with 2 Golf Umbrellas as it was raining heavily and I thought you might need them if you were going out. We had a discussion for about 10 minutes before I went up to our house, at no stage were any of your concerns raised, for the rest of that evening and the following morning until you checked out we had no communication. Claire and I have both had outside work since we took over Glenview Retreat and I don’t believe this is relevant to the concerns raised, we take great pride in the Cottages and the service we provide to our guests.

The cabin was warm with an excellent gas heater that made the room cosy and warm very quickly. Excellent kitchen facilities, large bathroom and toilet with a spa and a heater. The small yard was just right for our dog with a connecting gate into the next yard. Parking was excellent as well, just outside the door. The hosts very thoughtful, helpful and welcoming, they'd provided us with chocolates, breakfast hamper and a bottle of excellent wine.

We were looking for a nice three day getaway just before my partner had back surgery and when I was between jobs.
Jenny did everything to make us feel relaxed and at home, including providing us with two AMAZING breakfasts and organising massages and body treatments which came to us at the cottage. Yes, we need not have left the cottage at all if we didn't want to! Every effort was made to ensure that we were very comfortable and relaxed.
The area is beautiful and quiet and there is a great little courtyard out the back which attracts beautiful birdlife, particularly in the early morning. There are no views from the cottage which was a little disappointing as photos on another travel site give the impression that the cottage is right on a lake. Despite this, Emerald Lake is within about a 1km walking distance and there is bread scraps in the freezer ready to give to the ducks!
We will definitely be back again and would recommend it to others for a sneaky two to three day getaway.

My husband, Steve, booked the Magnolia Cottage for four nights, as a birthday surprise. As it was our first time away since our honeymoon, I had high expectations and the cottage didn't disappoint. Best of all, our 3-year-old dog, Harley, was welcomed and able to come with us.
We loved staying at the cottage. It was cosy, comfortable and super relaxing, with a good sized fully fenced courtyard.
I loved the cottage - the decorations, the kitchen, the bed, the spa (although the weather was too hot for us to use this), the robes, the breakfast provisions and the champagne and chocolate. Everything was thought out - even Harley's personalised doggy treats!
Although it was 39 degrees outside, the fan and air-conditioning were enough to keep us all cool - even our Tibetan Terrier dog.
The location is perfect - we used the cottage as a base to explore Emerald (Emerald village, Emerald Lake Park, Gembrook markets, Olinda and the Yarra Valley).
I loved hearing and seeing the native birds in the mornings and feeling relaxed in a natural bush setting.
We will definitely be back again.
