Looks pretty scrappy but is cosy and good for the cheap price. Near the central of clunes which is a nice area. Very dog friendly which also gives it bonus points. Cabins are quite cold which will be a problem during colder nights. Very affordable and a nice stay

I don't know what it is about country motels, but there is something you've got to love about them. Maybe it's the romance of chenille; the lure of brown carpet or the familiarity of florals, but the Clunes Motel has it all. Sure it's a little dated, but then the price isn't 5-star. Steve, the local owner has a sense of service that I would love some more expensive establishments to understand. His kindness and generosity makes The Clunes Motel worth going back to...even only to share a beer with him again.

The most dreadful accommodation I have ever stayed in! Filthy mattress, uncomfortable bed. Given a "family" room, which others call a twin room. Very outdated (I'm talking 1960's). Maintenance has been neglected and things are simply 'patched up' very poorly. Room smelt of a cover-up product like carpet deodorizer. Had to ask for remote to A/C, even though advertised as having. Photos on web site are probably 30 years old, definitely out to deceive people. Avoid at all costs. Were charged almost twice the advertised price!

The room stank, the TV didn't work and the whole experience was awful. Intended to stay two nights, but no way. It's nothing like the photos and blurb on their web site. No money has been spent on maintenance in a very long time.

Clunes Motel is an older style motel in need of a facelift. Nevertheless, the manager was friendly, the room clean and it had good ammentities such as a microwave, toaster, electric jug, bar fridge, TV, hair dryer, cutlery and crockery.
My wife and I stayed there for a night in January 2012 and payed about $70 which we thought was fair value.

I came 1000km across NSW & Vic and ended up in Clunes. Appeared at first glance to be a sad, long lost history town, and on arrival at this motel felt it may be the same. I had the Family room to myself and was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and renovation. Microwave, kettle, fridge (with milk & cold water ready), toatser, big flat screen TV, Disabled access ensuite, comfy mettress, loads of room. Management were hardworking watering the newly landscaped surrounds. I could feel the pride and friendliness, and enjoyed an extended chat. This stay allowed me the time to explore Clunes further and unwrap its warm soul.

Booked this place for Easter 2015. Arrived only to find out no place to stay, was double booked. We were offered to stay at alternate place, a B&B, but that is not what were after. No choice after travelling so far. Very poor management. We didn't stay 2nd night at B&B but couldn't get refund from this hotel (for which the money went to). Greatly unimpressed.

We spent a comfortable night at the Clunes motel - no pretentious of being upmarket just very welcoming staff and a clean and functional motel room. Though our shower was more French shower size it was a good hot shower and the big white fluffy towels are a nice touch. Each room has an informative guide to the area with thumbnail pictures which I thought well done.
