Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Dukes B&B has been sold and closed. The Duke was on the market for a long time, it has been sold and it is closed. I do not know if the new owners will open it up again. there is some work going on.

This is probably the most charming hosted B&B we have stayed at. History seeps from every painstakingly cleaned brick. The 'laid back' ambiance, warm fireplace and plenty of reading material enhance the visit, as does Graeme's knowledge of the local area which he is more than willing to share. We were greeted each morning by Graeme with a hearty "Good Morning" and an even heartier breakfast! Great location with an easy walk to the restaurant, pub and shops. If you are visiting Clunes, make this place your stop. If you are a rugby fan (and who shouldn't?), talk to Graeme about his playing history. If you are into gardening, take a stroll through the gardens and talk to June who will delight you with her knowledge. We will be back!

Despite the cold, wintry weather we were lovely and cosy. Our hosts - Graeme and June were wonderful hosts. From welcoming us and settling us in to preparing a magnificent breakfast that we ate from thoughtfully chosen pottery pieces - including some made by June. The breakfast room & sitting area have a lovely ambience surrounded by the garden. It was only a short walk to the lovely local restaurant 'Lucky Strike' for a convivial evening meal. The museum and local shops are interesting and well presented. We would have no hesitation in recommending Dukes for a stay in Victoria's gold fields.

Whether it was booking a restaurant for us or cooking breakfast, our host Graeme was as good as everyone has already said. The bedrooms are comfortable and cosy on a cold night. There are personal touches in the decor and the shared spaces are pleasant as well. Highly recommended.

We had an evening planned in Clunes and wanted somewhere local to stay. The Dukes B&B was the ideal location. Our host, Graeme wasn't going to be around at our arrival, but he kindly left the keys with a local restaurant (where we were spending our evening). Later that evening, Graeme met us and we spent the latter end of the night chatting. Our room was clean and comfortable and the rest of the house was homely, without being cluttered. The following morning Graeme welcomed us again with a hearty breakfast and sent us off on our way with a friendly wave from the front door. We will have no hesitation in booking The Dukes B&B again in the future.

We had four nights at Dukes. Graeme was a great host, his breakfasts are amazing. Loved the character of the place. Clunes is an unusual place, pretty quite during the week. A lot more happening on the weekends.

My cousins and I just returned from 3 amazing days at this charming B&B. Their first visit and 6th for me. Graeme and June always make you feel like family with their wonderful hospitality and warmth. Comfortable ensuite rooms, lounge with cosy wood fire , lovely large dining area and lots of June's great pottery . Graeme prepares the best breakfast you will ever have anywhere and other meals are top class. How can you not keep coming back where nothing is too much for the hosts to ensure their guests are happy.Absolutely outstanding . Hoping to visit again very soon.

My daughter and I stayed for one night at The Dukes in late June. It's an old pub with a colourful history, to which has been added a very nicely designed modern back section of lounge and dining room looking onto a garden. We had a great time socialising with the other guests in the cozy lounge, then dancing in the Town Hall for a kinder fundraiser. The Bed was comfortable and the ensuite fine. Graeme's hospitality is quite unique, the atmosphere is utterly homely and relaxed, and the breakfast, eaten with other guests in the lovely dining room, was seriously the best we have had. Thanks! Sue

This is a delightful get away from Melbourne for a couple of nights or for tourists who would like to see more of the real Victorian countryside. Lovely old B&B with a very colourful history which owner Graeme will be pleased to explain. Cosy log fire to sit around in the lounge while watching the TV (bit on the small side but was fine to watch the football). Free WiFi - which you need as phone coverage is fairly ordinary (non existent if you're on Optus) in the town. This is a great spot to use as a base to go to the Pyrenees, Ballarat, Avoca, Maryborough, Daylesford, etc. Breakfast is home cooked and Graeme does an absolutely bang up job - just go hungry and enjoy his morning taste sensation. Bed was extremely comfortable and shower hot and strong. Really enjoyed our stay and loved the area.
