This is up there with one of my most favourite stays. The accomodation is gorgeous, the host has soooo many beautiful, thoughtful touches and they turned the log fire heater on to make the room toasty warm before we arrived (because it’s the middle of winter and they care!) we loved everything about our stay. Warm, clean and lovely. I do like to give big reviews, but can’t find enough words to describe how perfect this stay was.

Thanks to Margaret and Rob and their beautiful cottage we had a couple of really lovely days. The cottage had so many special touches. Bed was very comfortable. Couldn't ask for anything better. Margaret even let us know when the cottage was ready for us as were in town early.

Location was great. Easy walking distance to towns either side and to eateries, a supermarket, etc.

If hiring this cottage as a 1 bedroom it is great; just be aware the queen bed is in the open plan room with the small kitchen and lounging area. The bathroom is straight off this area in its own room with sliding solid door (toilet in bathroom). Another door leads to the patio and garden where rosella's come feed off the balustrade in the morning.

If hiring as a 2 bedroom, the '2nd bedroom' is via external stairs (easy, not many at all) only; and those staying in this external twin bed room need to go outside at night and come into the main cottage right next to the main bed to then enter the bathroom.

This 2 bedroom arrangement was okay for one night for us as we were family, but may be awkward if it were friends or acquaintances sharing the facilities.

Has air con. Has a gas log fire that warmed the place nicely. Breaky good. Would stay again, owner was lovely too!

Needs a curtain over the kitchen sink please to make the bedroom/living dark at night. We had to make a makeshift curtain out of a rug to make it darker. Other than that, all was lovely, thank you! :)

Thank you for your review and we enjoyed meeting you and your husband. Most people are okay with the arrangement after I explain it to them and some decide not to go ahead. I actually explained the upstairs bedroom to you and gave you the opportunity to cancel.... as I do with everybody that wants to take the 2 bedrooms. I try to be as clear as I possibly can in explaining that they need to come down the outside staircase to use the bathroom on the lower level. You had the option of taking our Private Studio for one night so they would have their own bathroom. But you said it would be fine as they were only staying the one night. We will look into a blind of some sort on the kitchen window. So sorry you were disappointed.

My husband and I both enjoyed staying at this gorgeous little B&B in Belgrave. We stayed in the suite which had a bedroom and a bathroom, was very spacious with everything provided. Lovely breakfast with lots to choose from. The location was perfect within walking distance to shops and restaurants. We were very warm and cosy. A very comfortable bed. A home away from home! Would definitely recommend. Margaret the host was wonderful, very welcoming and great communication.

Stonesthrow Cottage was just a delightful place to stay, We couldn't have been more comfortable, nothing wrong with the bed at all!
The trees were part of being on the Dandenong HIlls and really pretty, also gave us the benefit of the beautiful birds.
There was everything we could want in our lovely room, also some treats we didn't expect!! The view from the bed was perfect with the trees and plants.
Margaret is the perfect hostess, so friendly, we felt as though we knew her well even before we met her. Molly and Lucy the delightful aged cat and dog were a bonus.
We would recommend this fabulous B & B which has it's special homely atmosphere, to anyone who wants to relax in beautiful surroundings.

I'm very sorry to read this review "Mr Smith". I don't know who you are and I don't know if you stayed in our cottage or our private suite. We're constantly doing maintenance and working on the trees and garden. We repainted and upgraded a few months ago. I'm sorry you thought the beds were uncomfortable. I've only ever been told they are comfortable. See other reviews. If you actually stayed here it would have been helpful if you'd have discussed these problems with us.

Staying at Stones Throw Cottage is sort of like being in your own home... but in Belgrave! Obviously the abundant birdlife, lush gardens and treed setting for the cottage is quite unique, but it's what's inside that feels like a real little home. There's nothing that Margaret (the delightful host) hasn't thought of, from a comfy bed with great quality linen, right through to generously stocked kitchen cupboards with utensils, plenty of crockery and cutlery.

One of my pet hates about staying in self catering accommodation is when it feels like a cheap hotel room that they've added a few cheap pots, pans a cutting board the size of a piece of bread and 2 of all the essentials like cups, bowls plates etc. You end up washing dishes more than enjoying your time there because you need your rationed spoon for more than one dining purpose. Stone's Throw Cottage is NOTHING like this!

From the minute you walk into the cottage its like a treasure hunt of WOW's!! The great library of DVD's, the wide variety of breakfast supplies, the stereo system, snugly bathrobes, abundance of luxurious towels, electric blanket on the bed, a fabulous array of kitchen utensils and crockery, the gas fire, comfy couch, your own personal outdoor area with timber deck - complete with a patio set and BBQ right through to the chocolates on your bedside tables... it's one great discovery after another.

The cottage itself is a warm and inviting eclectic collection of furniture and styles that really work.... There's none of the inner city chic, matchy-matchy, wall to wall 'it's been professionally decorated' feel about it, but on the other hand nor is there any of that forced, 'cutesy, ye olde world' cottage vibe either.

Stones Throw cottage just is what it is..... a really comfortable, quiet, charming, well equipped cottage that's well placed in the Dandenong Ranges and run by a friendly, professional owner keen to have you thoroughly enjoy your stay. With that combination you can't help but feel inclined to relax, unwind and chill - just as you might in your own home... ok maybe a little better than at home 😉.

We were looking for a place to base ourselves in the hills, while visiting a lot of family, during events like engagement & birthday parties, in Oct 13. The cottage was ours for 4 nights I think, and it was perfect as a lovely place to spend our time. Margaret (& Molly the gorgeous dog), really welcomed us and continued to look after us. We were provided excellent breakfast items too. The birdlife was superb.
We'll be back!

My wife suprised me on my 60th birthday by booking the lunch time puffing billy train (which was excellent) and then walking up to this lovely cottage a few minutes away from the town centre. i was blown away when she told me we were here for the night. what a wonderful experience in a great cottage. Marg and Rob were friendly and very helpful and the place was equiped with everything you would need. Dvds, Cds, breakfast basket and a comfy bed. The birds in the morning sitting and munching on seed was a lovely sight to wake up to. It was the best birthday I have enjoyed and would highly recommend the stones throw to local and overseas visitors alike, thanks guys, we will be back some day.

Beautiful surrounds, warm, inviting cottage. Margaret made us feel welcome from the start! We found all the facilities to be in good working order, with plenty to find in the fridge to keep us in good working order as well!! Outdoor balcony added charm. In a few words: warm, cozy, charming place to stay! We have no hesitations in recommending to anyone. Value for money.
