Too early for lunch but never too early for a beer? Nice old pub in the main street of Beechworth and has seen some action in its day I reckon. After several hours traipsing around town , I needed to get off my feet for a while, so dropped in for one drink, the wife's idea, not mine! Quick service, good pricing with smiling staff, can think of a lot worse. Worth a drop in for sure.

Had lunch at the Commercial Hotel a few Sunday's ago. Food was good and the service was friendly The Hotel fits in well with the feel of Beechworth. I was surprised that when I ordered a Sav Blanc for my wife they do not sell it by the glass, But that is only a minor complaint..

Friendly helpful staff and great food (though a little dear for pub grub), bed was reasonably comfortable but the guest rooms are looking old and tired and they need updating. Shared bathroom facilities but quite clean - again could do with an update as towel racks were broken and hand wash didn't seem to work. we made the mistake of staying over Australia Day weekend so it was very noisy with the bewery next door and music and people partying till late. You get a basic breakfast - cereal and toast - the home made style bread was lovely for toast. Cheap stay, basic but comfortable, you get what you pay for.

This review is strictly about the restaurant and bar, not the accommodation.
Place smelled like old carpet dampened with beer. Service was extremely slow for "us". We were very out of place going by the exclusively white patrons that were seated at the restaurant, but that has nothing to do with the restaurant or this review. What does though is how at least 3 parties who ordered after us (often the same items off their limited menu) were served well before we were, and all finished their meals before we even got ours.
The wait was so long (more than an hour and a half), we lost our apatite and asked to cancel our order and get our money back. Our request for the refund coincided with the wait staff bringing our food to the table. Promptly the waitress (the skinny blue eyed one) picked up our plates the very instant they were set on our table by the other waiter. Hard to describe in words, but you instantly know rudeness when you experience it. Just as you know a half-hearted apology that is nothing more than words.
AVOID!! AVOID!! AVOID!!

We were greeted by the manager, Jedd, who really provided a service beyond what could be expected and is arguably the best things about the hotel. He took pains to make our evening as nice as possible which was really very lovely of him.
Upon checking in, our room was nice and clean, though extremely basic. The usually communal bathrooms were assigned to specific rooms due to covid-19 regulations. Our bathroom was nice and clean when we arrived. So far so good. When we came back from dinner we attended a live music gig, which was great. After a lovely evening we headed to bed. However, this is where things turned drastically downwards.
Rowdy patrons of the hotel were running up and down the hallways of the accommodation section, making a ridiculous amount of noise and smoking inside. There were cigarettes stubbed out into the hall carpet. Someone had discovered our "assigned" bathroom and decided to use it. There were empty drinks left behind and to my complete horror, a used sanitary item thrown on the floor. My level of disgust at this point is hard to describe. Throughout the night, we hardly slept as there were people screaming and carrying on all through the night. 7am was the first time the hotel fell silent. In the night, someone was violently attempting to open our locked door. We were both grateful it was a sturdy door. When we left in the morning, as soon as we were able to wrench our exhausted selves out of bed from a night without sleep, we walked through a filthy, completely unattended hotel, where the doors were left open and/or unlocked.
Unless something drastically changes to prevent random people from running through the hotel doing what they please I am sorry to say, never again.

We were lucky enough to book in for the Mothers Day set menu. The 6 course menu highlighted the best of autumn North East Victorian produce. We were sat down directly by the fire to enjoy hot damper with whipped Milawa honey butter. Courses that followed showing off the regional-fair included a chestnut cream soup and feijoa & lemon pudding. The dish that stole the show was however the most perfectly executed (and tasty) scallop pie all of us had ever eaten.
Each dish was brought out by head chef Elijah Holland former Lume chef as well as the front of house manager Jed, who's attention to detail and service made our night. Jed helped us select delicious local Beechworth wine including Penny Weight's 2021 release Gamay that couldn't have have paired better with the roasted duck breast dish. We also enjoyed sipping on Traviarti Nebbiolo and Baarmutha Shiraz, especially by that cozy fire.
The night was faultless and we all cannot wait to dine again soon!

We enjoyed a lovely dinner by the fire. The setting was simple but beautiful. Both our meals were beautifully prepared, the rack of lamb and beef perfectly cooked and flavoursome. The whole experience was above our expectations for a country pub -great local produce and reasonably priced

Non responsive to messages. Rooms clean but the worst mattresses. Hard, cheap and could feel every join and seam. If you are going to run an accommodation business then don't skimp on quality. I requested a soft mattress or topper due to back isses but it was ignored. Had to prop myself up against the wall in an attempt to sleep but that was unsuccessful so ended up going to the car early morning and sleeping there. No sign of a mattress protector, which is so unhygenic. If you prefer somewhere that is serious about their guests comfort then don't stay here. On the plus side it's a beautiful, historical building and although we didn't eat there the food looked amazing.

This is a lovely hotel in Beechworth to have an evening meal. We dined there last week. We were greeted by a lovely lady by the name of Ursula. She was very welcoming. The food was excellent. We both had eggplant parma with a beetroot and orange salad- it was delicious. Service was professional and there was a lovely atmosphere.
We would definitely dine here again.

Staying in Beechworth for a couple of days so we decided to have dinner at the old pub. Great atmosphere, great service, would be lovely in winter by the fire. I chose the Fish & Chips, didn't live up to expectations. My husband had the lamb rack, wish I had chosen that, he said it was delicious and very tender. Just how it looked.
Would definitely dine here again.
