While the building is beautiful and well worth a visit to see, the staff were not very welcoming on the day we visited. We were visiting Beechworth for 4 days, and decided to try out a few of the local hotel/pubs. We’d earlier come past doing a full walk through the town, checking out the shops and buildings and thought the garden area looked like a great spot for a late lunch. The lady working on the bar looked like she didn’t want to be there and was definitely not up for a chat, and while the lady who helpfully showed us to our table in the garden dining area was lovely, the atmosphere didn’t feel very inviting and the menu was not what we were looking for - hoping for some good pub grub - but the Thai offerings did sound good. We decided to head back to Hibernian, where we’d been earlier for a drink and had felt warmly greeted, chatted with the locals and had a fantastic meal.

Dined for dinner whilst staying in Beechworth. I ordered the Thai green chicken curry. It was so delicious with very authentic Thai flavours. Hubby enjoyed his chicken parma. Sunday is open mic night so we got to listen to some local singing talent during our dinner. Service friendly.

We had a family re-union dinner here recently. 64 people catered for, on top of their regular Saturday night crowd. Everything was perfect, and nothing was a problem. The food was great, and delivered in a timely fashion. The service/staff were very good, especially Lorraine and the Chef. This is a fantastic venue.

Worst steak sandwich I have ever been served. Steak was inedible!!
Seafood basket a small serve if frozen fish
Would not recommend coming here for a meal.
Also the barman tried to charge us $58 for 2 beers and 2 scotch n cokes. When queried the price came down to $38 and a not very happy barman.

The dining area is the only good thing about the hotel Nicholas. Sadly it's like most pubs who like to serve there meals with chips and Salad. They do serve other meals like curries. My husband ordered the prawn curry and the portion was quite small containing 9 prawns and hardly any sauce. This seems to be the norm in most pubs. We also visited the beechworth bakery which was not the same as we visited before the pandemic. Times are tough and tourists remember the establishments they have visited and will consider a return visit to a town.

Thank you for your positive comments about our dining room, Susana. You are correct. Our 'pub' meals are served with salad and chips however, there are vegetables on our menu as an alternative. As well as the Asian selections, there is also a roasted pumpkin salad. braised lamb shank, grilled salmon, and a spaghetti dish which are very popular. We aim to provide good quality meals at a reasonable price which are in keeping with similar venues across the Indigo Shire. If we had been made aware of your dissatisfaction, we would have been pleased to rectify the situation. We trust you will visit our lovely town again.

We found this pub to have the best menu selection and quality food in Beechworth. The historical photographs on the wall give it a great atmosphere. Make sure you also take a look at the cellar. There are some great photos of Ned Kelly.

Had a 2 night stay in Beechworth. The dinner was so good the first night we went back the 2nd night for Dinner. Exception service, very friendly staff, good wine list and plenty to choose from menu at excellent prices. Nothing was a problem for staff. Staff very conscious of COVID regulations. 2nd night some other Guests got a bit impatient for their meals and made a scene but the staff handled with ease. It was a very busy night. Highly recommend anyone visiting Beechworth.

Lovely old pub but the service is just as old.
Waited for over 45min for our food (still waiting) on top of unclear instructions you must order at the bar.

Embarrassed to introduce this place to our parents after recommending it.

No communication unless you ask!

Visited restaurant/hotel whilst touring South Australia. Excellent food and drink with an interesting historical commentary on the hotels connection with the legendary and much loved Ned Kelly.
The premises have been refurbished but retain historic integrity

Our bar staff, Anna and Kristin couldn't have been nicer or more helpful (we had trouble contacting our landlady and couldn't have so without them). Also a gentleman whose name l missed.
The dining room is an old fashioned treat and the food, on our 2 consecutive nights, was scrumptious.
Be warned: Beechworth is not Optus friendly.
