Travellers' Choice
The award winning Hughenden (circa 1870) is a gracious historic hotel at the heart of Woollahra, in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. Associated with Australia's first philosopher, The Hughenden experienced many changes from grand residence to Masonic Hall to Ladies College. In 1993, The Hughenden commenced a programme of extensive restoration, redeveloping it into a beautiful boutique hotel. The last refurbishment in 2017 refreshed the hotel whilst preserving its old-world grandeur and character. The historic features such as the marble fireplaces, the original grand staircase, and servant bells are still prevalent today. Visitors are welcome to experience the warmth, charm and personal service offered by our hotel. With 32 Heritage Rooms, Pet Friendly Accommodation, Cafe, Lounge Bar and Event spaces, The Hughenden has unique offerings for all to experience and enjoy.

The Hotel definitely plays up its boutique status compared to the standards you’d expect in the UK. It is more shabby/chic than luxury and our room (the best in the hotel) smelt dank and damp. Although it apparently underwent a refurbishment in 2017, parts of it could definitely do with another makeover. However, the staff were all delightful and extremely helpful and you certainly could not fault the service. Breakfast (which is included) is a bit of a squeeze although you can use the lounge and the front courtyard which is part of the adjoining cafe, albeit slightly noisy because of the traffic in Oxford Street. It is a fantastic location to base yourself in Sydney, away from the central district but easily accessible on the 333 bus. Plenty of good eating and shopping options

My wife an I stayed here for a music festival (Good Things) in Centennial Park. It is a wonderful location near the park and also great shopping in Oxford Street.and Bondi Junction is a very short bus ride away. There are some beautiful exclusive shops in the Paddington area. The hotel itself is an older building with quite small rooms/ There is a maze of corridors on multiple levels leading around and through the building. It is interesting and quirky. I loved it, some others won't and wheelchair access is limited. It is a pet friendly hotel which is rare in Sydney. While we were there they were offering doggy yoga as an activity. At no time was the presence of animals intrusive. Continental breakfast was included with our booking. There was a reasonable variety of good

The hotel its older style on a busy intersection of Oxford and Queen St. The rooms are small and ours had a slight damp smell to it. The location is ok for sightseeing half way between city and Bondi beach its a shame more care not taken looking after rooms.

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are deeply sorry to hear about your overall dissatisfaction with your room. The Hughenden Hotel is a charming hotel built in 1878 with no two rooms the same, among 9 different room types there is plenty of options to choose from, the room options can range in size from the Cosy small double room, up to the Hughenden’s signature Manor Room which is our largest room. When staying it is best to discuss the options with our always friendly and helpful staff. That way you can stay in comfort and do not leave the hotel unhappy with your stay. Please let us know when your travel plans bring you back to Sydney as I will oversee your booking and make your stay more memorable.
