The award winning Hughenden (circa 1870) is a gracious historic hotel at the heart of Woollahra, in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. Associated with Australia's first philosopher, The Hughenden experienced many changes from grand residence to Masonic Hall to Ladies College. In 1993, The Hughenden commenced a programme of extensive restoration, redeveloping it into a beautiful boutique hotel. The last refurbishment in 2017 refreshed the hotel whilst preserving its old-world grandeur and character. The historic features such as the marble fireplaces, the original grand staircase, and servant bells are still prevalent today. Visitors are welcome to experience the warmth, charm and personal service offered by our hotel. With 32 Heritage Rooms, Pet Friendly Accommodation, Cafe, Lounge Bar and Event spaces, The Hughenden has unique offerings for all to experience and enjoy.

Good hotel in a convenient location. East check in and check out. Good shower and comfy bed, not noisy despite being on a busy intersection. The breakfast options could be better. Staff if friendly and helpful.

In a geat location with lots of character, comfy, clean. Just one bus straight into city or to Bondi. Breakfast was simple but plenty. Staff were polite. Room was a little pokey. Would definitely return.

We chose the Hughendon specifically for its location on VERY trendy Queen St and right across from a main entrance to Centennial Park a MAJOR wildlife sanctuary and huge attractive Park. While we prefer not to visit Pet Friendly Hotels this was a low key feature and di not bother us. What did become an issue was the lack of onsite management as an incident with a drunken abusive locked out guest mentioned in another review went on for far too long. Also when you first check in specially to upstairs units served by ONE ancient staircase please make an escape plan in case of fire, well in advance because jumping or sheeting down from upstairs balconies seems the only option. Also seemingly ALL Sydney (Australian) Hotels have a neat sign warning you to keep the bathroom door…

A quiet room with atmospheric lighting and a super comfy bed, serviced daily. Friendly staff. Great location within easy leafy walks to cafes, pubs, restaurants, shops, parks, old architecture, water. A nice continental breakfast with tea or coffee is included. Paid parking is available. Bathroom was clean and light with nice products. Our room (24) had shower in the claw foot bath tub.. getting out of wet bath was awkward and dangerous. Our room would have benefitted from a piece of art.. with very high ceilings the blank walls felt barren. I put a hand towel in the rotted missing section of our window frame to stop draught. Unsightly.. why not spakfill and paint? I guess challenging times have impacted upkeep on this grand old dame. The indoor breakfast room is closed as…

Hotel was charmingly old with a lovely common lounge warmed with a fire place and a quaint bar. Our family room was exactly what we required - warm, clean and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast cafe was perfect and staff were lovely. Perfect location as we went to the new Allianz Stadium.

Really nice place to stay over. We enjoyed our stay as we stayed here for the opening of the Allianz Stadium when RSA played AUS. The room was clean and the breakfast was yummy! We will definitely be back!

As a place to sleep for a short visit I really liked this hotel. In a what looked like a converted old mansion I liked the many corridors and cosy feel. The common lounge was especially cool with its fireplace. I did not have a dog myself but I enjoyed the presence of others in this pet friendly place. The staff were all very easy going and responsive to emails and were well organised. There is a cafe on site. Also lots of nice places to eat and shop very close by. On site parking was a big plus and not expensive. Heating in the room was my only quibble because using small plug in heaters did not really do the job.

The Hughenden is not your standard shiny Sydney hotel, but its old world charm and character (and its location) stand out. It feels more like a guest house than a hotel - for me is a major plus. The personal approach (and personalities) of the staff add to a distinctively friendly ambiance. If you're after 24 hour room service, cable television and bathrooms silvered and mirrored ... the Hughenden may not be for you. If you're happy with comfort over luxury and unique style over 5 star sameness ... then give it a go!

I had always wanted to stay at this hotel and finally got a chance! Unfortunately I was disappointed as the grand old lady is very tired and is in desperate need of an upgrade. The hallway carpets are revolting and that is the first thing you notice. Rooms were clean, ours was a superior room out the back with one tiny window and tiny bathroom. Bed was good though. For the money it is not great value. However it is in a great area .
