Travellers' Choice
The award winning Hughenden (circa 1870) is a gracious historic hotel at the heart of Woollahra, in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. Associated with Australia's first philosopher, The Hughenden experienced many changes from grand residence to Masonic Hall to Ladies College. In 1993, The Hughenden commenced a programme of extensive restoration, redeveloping it into a beautiful boutique hotel. The last refurbishment in 2017 refreshed the hotel whilst preserving its old-world grandeur and character. The historic features such as the marble fireplaces, the original grand staircase, and servant bells are still prevalent today. Visitors are welcome to experience the warmth, charm and personal service offered by our hotel. With 32 Heritage Rooms, Pet Friendly Accommodation, Cafe, Lounge Bar and Event spaces, The Hughenden has unique offerings for all to experience and enjoy.

We stayed there on the recommendation of a friend who lives nearby and we cannot be happier with the location. It is very convenient for the buses into the city and / or to the beaches and the local area has plenty of choice for food (all we tried was delicious) and close to Centennial park so is hard to beat. The only downside was the breakfast, a bit lacking if you don't want to pay extra money. The room was large and clean, bathroom small but with everything you need. Staff was great at all times. A great spot.

I stayed in this cute boutique hotel a few times. Room was nice with a cute balcony, bed very comfy, air con & ceiling fans worked well. Staff were extremely helpful! I am only give it a 3 dots (average) because the free breakfast was so poor & if you want to have a real breakfast you need to pay for it on top of the expensive rate they charge for the room. They used to serve lunch in the past but that stopped happening. In the evening we ordered "antipasto" which it included prosciuto as per the menu but when they brought it to the room they said that they have no prosciuto anymore & added some extra cheese, for a 4 stars hotel this is not right! It is the only decent hotel within the area so I might need to come back as my mother lives close by & that is the reason I stay

This is a lovely warm and friendly hotel in a great location but be cautious if you are not a fan of sleeping in a smelly dog room. I think the smell comes from the carpet and really once in there how could you ever get that smell out...in particular when they are wet. We were having a lovely breakfast in the garden and a lady arrived with her dog and proceeded to let it run all over the lovely furniture , sniffing and licking the tables. I’m sorry but I think this whole dog thing is out of control. There are places for dogs and that’s on the floor beside your seat and not in your bedroom.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are pleased to hear that you found our hotel to be comfy and that you enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. We understand that not everyone likes to have dogs around in a hotel and even though our policy does state that dogs shouldn't be over the furniture, some still do. We will reinforce it with our team to ensure that it does not happen again. Moreover, we do not allow dogs in any of our carpeted rooms. If you were in a carpeted room, it means that no dogs were ever allowed in there. We have only 6 pet friendly rooms out of 32 so there is plenty options to stay away from the dog rooms. Therefore, I would recommend that if you choose to stay with us again, its best to discuss room options with our always friendly and helpful staff so they can allocate you into a room away from the dog rooms. That way you can stay in comfort and fully enjoy your stay.

Fourth time now thatI have stayed here, love having my dog stay with me, in a little room with a courtyard so we are both very comfortable. Having the caffe with cappuccino available is an added bonus as is Centennial Park just across the road and the shops and eateries in Oxford and Queens St.

We visited for one Saturday night with friends, choosing the hotel for its convenient location, value for money and proximity to an event we were attending. The staff were friendly and helpful, though a little Fawlty Towers. The rooms are on the small side but recently renovated with modest sized bathrooms. Our friends had an upstairs room with a lovely patio area. Some cleanliness issues - hair on bathroom floor. Included breakfast was good, and barista coffee at extra cost was excellent. Would stay here again.
