The award winning Hughenden (circa 1870) is a gracious historic hotel at the heart of Woollahra, in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. Associated with Australia's first philosopher, The Hughenden experienced many changes from grand residence to Masonic Hall to Ladies College. In 1993, The Hughenden commenced a programme of extensive restoration, redeveloping it into a beautiful boutique hotel. The last refurbishment in 2017 refreshed the hotel whilst preserving its old-world grandeur and character. The historic features such as the marble fireplaces, the original grand staircase, and servant bells are still prevalent today. Visitors are welcome to experience the warmth, charm and personal service offered by our hotel. With 32 Heritage Rooms, Pet Friendly Accommodation, Cafe, Lounge Bar and Event spaces, The Hughenden has unique offerings for all to experience and enjoy.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hotel has old world character and charm. The room we were in had high ceilings with a moderate amount of room. The bathroom was very small and narrow. The bed was super comfortable. They have a small cafe at the front of the hotel and the coffee was decent. It is easy walking to the Main Street and across the road are the Paddington gates to Centennial Park.

A beautiful place with an attentive service and clean rooms. The hotel is very well situated in a nice neighborhood near Centennial Park. The local village has good options to get food and drinks. Supermarket, bus station, drug store… all nearby. We can recommend this place very highly

We just had a wonderful stay at the Hughenden Hotel. Staff were exceptional. The room was quaint and well set up for our needs. The Hotel is close to Centennial Park and the local village has lots of Cafes, Restaurants, Shops, Hotels and Galleries. We will be back.

The property was very well located to the function that we attended and for access to very good restaurants for breakfast and dinner. Big Mamas Trattoria was a standout! Ambience of the property was well within what was advertised and our bed was very comfortable. Our check-in was efficient and thorough but lacked any welcoming warmth. The room was well serviced though we found the bathroom floor quite slippery as it was impossible to keep the shower water (from within the bath) off the floor!

Spent a weekend in a king room at the Hughenden and would definitely stay there again. A very handy location in the Eastern Suburbs. Nice old world charm, friendly efficient staff, very clean room and bathroom. comfy bed, fast internet, onsite parking. Breakfast in the cafe was fairly simple but enjoyable and the coffee was very good. Locals seemed to be frequenting the cafe, which is always a good sign. Close to shopping and restaurants and lovely leafy streets to stroll around.

Fantastic location and super friendly team. The staff make you feel welcome and go out of their way to make sure you are happy during your stay. We had a little issue with our bedding configuration (likely our fault). A simple text and we were upgraded to a larger room without fuss and without charge. Completely unexpected. Thank you!!!

Drove up from Canberra for the T20 World Cup and stayed here with my teenage son as we wanted some accommodation within walking distance of the SCG. Apart from some pretty terrible water pressure in the shower, this hotel was excellent. Loved the high-ceilings and beautiful Victorian-era interior/décor, and close proximity to decent pubs and the SCG. Would definitely stay again.

Dear Gary Who wouldn’t rave about the Hughenden - a comfortable elegant hotel in a great location with warm friendly staff who seem to have perfected the art of making a room feel like our room away from home! Thank you - we will be back! Warren and Marjorie

We loved our stay here. So close to everything and our dog also loved centennial park across the road. We were welcomed, given Wifi, complimentary breakfast. Smallish room, but very comfortable and a small courtyard. We will definitely be back. Also the staff were gorgeous.
