Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

First: the good. The reception staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. The air conditioning worked well and the room was quiet. The not-so-good: I found the bed very uncomfortable and woke up with a back ache. Just one rather flat pillow too. I know mattress firmness is an individual thing and maybe some people find these beds comfortable, but not me. The actual bad: there were no bedside tables in the room. I’ve never ever stayed at a hotel with no bedside tables before. I was travelling with my mum who needs to use a CPAP machine and she had to push her bed across the room so she could use the built-in desk by the window to rest and plug in her machine. The bathroom was a weird sort of dropped-in prefabricated quarter-circle that you have to step up into, and the shower floor was plastic and spongy and felt like I was going to fall through. There was a sign in the bathroom warning us that steam from the shower could set off the smoke alarms and if that happened we would be liable for the fire brigade call-out fee of $1500. Despite this there was no extractor fan in the bathroom! There was also a sign asking us not to boil the kettle under the smoke alarm for the same reason. But that’s where they keep the kettle… The room also had an unpleasant musty smell, like the carpets had got wet and mouldy. We tried to open the window for fresh air but it was so noisy we had to close it again. So here are my suggestions for making this hotel a more pleasant place to stay: Add some bedside tables. Even just one to share between the two beds. Get the carpets cleaned, or replaced. Change the smoke alarms. Most smoke alarms aren’t triggered by shower steam! Replace the pillows, or at least have more than one per bed. I acknowledge that this is a budget hotel and a no-frills approach is expected, but I’ve stayed in much cheaper places that were much more comfortable and welcoming!

We have been using this hotel for many years however being partially disabled we need to have room 102. This room meets our needs and is the only room in the hotel that does. I always book 102 in advance ( 4 weeks )and get an email confirmation. So we arrive last Friday and when we aproached the reception gave our name and room number we knew something was wrong. They had given our room to someone else. They offered another room with a portable fold up bed. I am 76 and have mobilty issues and my wife is 77 and a roll away bed is not suitable. Eventually after about an hour they moved another single bed from another room and placed in 104 . The main bed in 104 was about 3 inches lower than 102 and so difficult to get up from The room was now over filled with beds almost no room to move. We had a most uncomfortable 2 days. The standard of this hotel has gone down dramatically and is in need of urgent renovation. needless to say they have lost us as customers!

This was a real find! It’s an Ibis hotel, so the rooms are smallish, but our room was clean and stylish with everything you need for an overnight stay- comfortable bed with great linen, good bathroom with a great shower. Although situated right next to Pennant Hills Road our room was super quiet. It must have great sound-proofing. Very welcoming and efficient staff. Located within a short walk to the station and, hence trains to the city, Olympic Park, etc, This was our first stay. We’ll be back.

Everything was clean. I have a back issue, but the bed was really comfy and had no problems the whole time we were there. Service was great. The housekeeping was excellent. Staff were fabulous. Would definitely book again. The buffet breakfast was full of variety.

I am a regular at this hotel and they have recently moved to a new soap and shampoo line. Unfortunately, this does not include hair conditioner. Would have been good to know this before my stay, as I would have brought some along.

Located in a good spot near railway station and not too far from the city , national parks and the northern beaches. Simple motel with outstanding staff. Limited meals but plenty of restaurants within walking distance or a short drive away

Absolutely appalled by the state of the room we were given. Even the Budget Ibis's I've stayed at were held to a higher standard than this place. Upon entering our room we were greeted by a musty smell, which would make sense as there was mould from the top of the window to the ceiling. From there it got even better- Threadbare carpets, cobwebs, thick dust covering the tv, bed lights and headboard, filthy fridge that has obviously never been wiped out, stained linen, bathroom sink with the plug jammed so it was unusable...the list goes on! If it wasn't quite late when we arrived and we weren't leaving early in the morning I would have found alternative accommodation...even my 11yr old was disgusted and wanted to leave as it was, in her words, unsanitary! Absolute disgrace to the Ibis/Accor brand. The only positive was the free parking.

Good evening Sarah, Thank you for taking the time to let us know areas that we can improve our hotel. I do apologize we did not provide the exceptional stay that we pride ourselves on. Please be advised we will be having a rework of our housekeeping procedures in the coming weeks and certainly look to investigate which room was displaying the musty smell. Our apologies for the sink, it uses the retro system where instead of clicking the plug, there is a notch at the back of the tap, not always seen, which will open the plug and drain. We do hope you return in the near future and are able to see the improvement we have made! We also work on a 24/7 reception, on your return, please do not hesitate to contact reception and we will be able to assist with any questions. Kind regards, Jazmin on behalf of Ibis Thornleigh

Staff is always fantastic. Jimmy is a great host. Thanks Jimmy. I always stay at Accor. It's the quality I must have. When I am forced to stay elsewhere ... Especially for work, I'm usually disappointed. I need consistency.. Accor and IBIS deliver.

We arrived and stood at the counter and waited to be served...and waited...and waited....it appeared that the manager and a staff member were having a chat in the office. We were seen (and clearly ignored) by the staff member. Eventually we got served and I commented that we had been standing awhile and were seen by this staff member. We were told she had finished for the day. So clearly as soon as you finish for the day...so does your responsibility to customer service. We were forewarned that their head chef was away, or they didn't have one. So food was minimal. We got room service and the pizza I got had more oil then the engine in my car. Very disappointing. But not as disappointing as the bacon in the restaurant the next morning. Couldn't cut it, couldn't stab it with a fork, could hardly even eat it. Next morning when in the cap park I looked up at the motel and thought...'Wow...a decent clean of the building wouldn't go astray' This all said, it was a quiet motel and we had a warm and comfortable nights sleep. We'd stay here again. Bed was comfy and shower/bathroom facilities were good.
