Has a rep among the Balmain pubs as a pub with a heart and no pokies. Great bands every week and pub grub is above average. Watch out for territorial locals - Balmain is the original 'Insular peninsula"

Pleasant and comfortable room, however shared bathrooms are not to everyone's liking. Good continental breakfast included in rate. We left before the live music started at the weekend. There is a rather odd little private entrance from the main road.

Hi Margret, Glad your stay was a pleasant one and yes the private entrance has had some comments and laughs, do not know what they were thinking back in 1874 when the hotel was built!

The Merton Hotel is on Victoria Road Rozelle, which has traffic day and night. Bus stops are close by, this makes it very convenient to get around different parts of Sydney. There are two shared bathrooms and a separate toilet. We were in the front room which was lovely, it had a queen bed, long writing desk with three chairs,...

The website tells you there is live music Friday/Saturday and Sunday so if you want a quiet place to sleep this is not for you. There is also a busy road just outside. The location 20 minutes walk from the convention centre on Glebe Island was great for me as I was attending a convention there. Buses and taxis easily...

Very friendly helpful staff. Roomy rooms. Comfort bed. Very close to the bus and shops for food. Breakfast available all day. Close to NSW ambulance if going for the field day - I walked there in about 30 minutes.

Room needed a bit of a dusting ! But, bed was fine and linen clean etc... Shared bathrooms need some thought as the water from the shower splashes everywhere on the floor and you need a few towels as floor mats. Could add a few extra hooks to hang clothes and maybe a shelf for glasses, shaver, keys etc... At...

Welcoming atmosphere, great tunes with a toasty fireplace! Drinks and service were great, plenty of room for a larger group or function. We ordered the pork and chicken tacos to share- super tasty! Will be dining and sitting in front of the fire again!

What a great find. Quality curries and taco's in a local pub. We tried the fish and chicken tacos followed by the burmese curry and jerked chicken. all were great and great combinations on the plate - fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. We didn't stay for the band which was just warming up but nice to see live music in...

We rented the top floor of the Merton. It was fantastic for a group of 10 women celebrating a 50th Birthday. The owner and staff were very accommodating, breakfast was included and I cannot fault the accommodation, bistro or service. Very convenient to the city.

Spent a week here for work, rooms are comfortable and well kept only downside is the road noise but you soon get use to it. Food and bar - the restaurant deserves high commandments, food you could not fault. Defiantly try the goat curries, amazing Had a whole barramundi on a Friday night very tasty and I am picky when...
