The Ibis Budget Sydney Airport hotel receives mixed reviews for its service, with guests appreciating the handy shuttle service despite noting some concerns over luggage security. The accommodations are often described as compact and no-frills, yet clean and sufficient for short stays. While the atmosphere may feel dated, the hotel's cleanliness and comfortable beds are consistently praised. Budget-conscious travelers are drawn to its affordability, though the added costs for certain services may surprise some. The hotel's close proximity to the airport and dining options is a highlight, albeit with basic amenities.

・Location: 10-15 minutes walk from the domestic terminal of Sydney International Airport (follow the "Hotels" sign). There is also a bus from the domestic/international terminal to the hotel, but it costs 10 Australian dollars. If you are using the international terminal, there is a T bus (Transfer Bus) from the domestic arrival terminal (T2 or T3), which you can use for free. I stayed at a hotel near the airport because I had an early morning flight, but considering the hassle of walking to the domestic terminal and then taking the shuttle bus to the international terminal, it might be better to stay in central Sydney and travel by train or taxi.

・Room: Simply put, it is a "student dormitory." The walls are thin, and the toilet and shower are one unit, separated only by a curtain. The shampoo and body soap are all liquid. The bed is the cheapest Nitori bed you'll find in student dormitories, and the blanket is thin. There is a kettle and a refrigerator.

・Price: I stayed alone on a Friday night for 15,000 yen. Considering the cost of living in Australia, it can't be helped, but the quality is significantly lower than business hotels in Japan.

- Overall, I think this is a good place to stay if you're just going to take a nap before going to the airport. It's not too far to walk to the airport, so I think it would be better to spend a few thousand yen and change hotels or take a taxi.

- The service at the reception is average.

Reviewing and rating hotels is not easy as it has to be done in the context of price. As they say “you generally get what you pay for.” So with a room tariff of around $155 (possibly less than $100 when combined with a flight) per night at the Ibis Budget Sydney Airport, you can’t expect more than 2-star accommodation.

Let’s start with location. The Ibis is about 2km from the nearest entrance door to Terminal 2. If you are coming from an overseas destination, after passing through the endless custom, passport and security checks at Sydney Airport, you will need to use the free transfer bus to the Domestic Airport. This bus now (it has relocated) leaves from an obscure exit at the rear end of Section B of the arrivals terminal. It leaves every 10 minutes, although service stops at 9.30 p.m, and it takes about 10-15 minutes, so not a short trip. So work on 90 minutes + before your weary head hits an Ibis pillow. The Ibis has its own shuttle for $10 per person.

But what about the rooms, you ask? We are surprised that the Oxford English Dictionary does not regard “basic” and “Ibis” to be interchangeable terms. The rooms are very basic, very small with a double bed (albeit reasonably comfortable), sideboard and a wall mounted TV. The bathroom descends to the next level of “basic”. Toilet, ours smelt of urine, a shower with a plastic curtain (hint: use the toilet before the shower unless you packed your Wellington boots) and a vanity tap, which like us just couldn’t wait to get out of the place (very loose.) A kettle and cups are provided so you can make yourself a hot drink.

So in summary, unless you just want a reasonably comfortable bed at the lowest possible cost in close proximity to the Sydney Airport Domestic Terminal, do yourself a favour, spend a few more dollars to rise above “basic.” The Mantra Hotel is next to the Ibis (both owned by Accor Hotels.) We had breakfast there, $28 buffet style ($20 if you book in advance.) The room tariff is around $219 but it looks a much nicer hotel.

The rooms are tiny and cheap / the shower was broken and long black hairs here and about / Take it for what it is / its a place to sleep if your laying over in Sydney and on a budget. If you have light luggage its almost walkable to to the airport / or a reasonable cab fair. Wait outside ahead of time and be patient you can get a good deal / there is a place to hang out if your waiting to fly and a somewhat secure place to store luggage for a short time / its not protected but it is in a room where the street cannot get to it . I screwed up my booking by a week but they still found me a room albeit at a cost to me. Anything else in the area of the Airport is $$$$

An overnight stay for an early flight saw me here. Picked purely on price but similar priced hotels are in the area which are better.
Reception welcome was efficient if not warm. I mentioned I was ALL Gold and was there an upgrade and the lady wanted to give me a shuttle bus reservation. No details on facilities such as wifi, food or breakfast.
The room was on the 5th floor in the 50’s number, facing into the parking area.
The room is bare bones, being a classic queen; bed, table, tv, luggage stand.
No bathroom stuff like shampoo, just a bar of soap. 2 towels, no bath mat.
Air con was good and quiet. No opening window.
The bed was comfy enough.
TV was large and plenty regular channels but no paid stream.
Wifi was woeful. There mustn’t be a router past rooms 40 something as the signal dropped past them and basically no wifi.
The bed was ok, slept well, but aircraft and external noise was slightly noticeable.
Pillow choice is fat and fluffy.
There is a kettle, tea & coffee sachets in the room but the fridge is unplugged.
It does have an alarm clock
Evening meal choices are Krishna cream, McDonalds or KFC a minutes walk away. Left at 6am and no signs of breakfast in what looked like a breakfast area.
Wouldn’t stay again, I stayed at a similarly priced full service hotel the month prior which was an extra 5 minute walk to the domestic terminals but a whole world better in quality

We understand this is a IBIS "budget" hotel, but the whole experience was revolting.
We paid $400+ for one night, which for a "budget" hotel is quite expensive.
The foyer is like a 7/11 from the 80's. No images matched anything found online.
The luggage carrier was broken.
We were not told about the hidden lift which was the only lift to take you to the 6th floor. We spent a while trying to get the wrong lift going to level 6.
The room was revolting, the walls were filthy, we touched something that put a literal black sludge on our fingers and had to scrub them off. The floors were absolutely filthy, we slipped on whatever was on it.
The shower had such little water pressure we could barely fill our water bottles before our arms got tired, let alone shower in it.
While the bed sheets appeared clean, given the standard of the room we used as minimal bedding as we could for the night.
We had medicine that required refrigeration, the fridge was unplugged and warm.
The room was quite warm and the air conditioner took nearly 2 hours to cool the room down on maximum fan speed set at the lowest temperature.
We have stayed in many hotels, all over the world, including some amazing IBIS hotels, this was by far the worst experience I have ever encountered.
We're not even going to get nitpicky, like how the blinds are latched by a simple screw in the wall etc.
It would take such little effort to bring the room up to a "budget" standard, we wouldn't even rent this room to our pets.

Response from Hotel Management , Other at Ibis Budget Sydney Airport

Hi Scottyad, Thank you for your feedback, i am very disappointed to hear of your experience, this does not come anywhere near our standards service please email me directly at H5957-GM@accor.com with your booking name and room number you stayed, i would like to conduct a through investigation, however it is important to mention the rate for the room is very dynamic and Fluctuates a lot based on demand, whenever there is a cancelled flight, the price surges for all the hotels in the Airport area, all booking made on the day the price will be impacted . We are still the most affordable hotel in the area, it is also important to mention the integrity here, we outline clearly on the website what we offer and the amenities placed in the room. the hotel was built with 2 lifts initially lift 3 was built after the extension building we encourage guest to use lift 3 for better experience, we have notes in front of lift as well, hotel is feature with 24 hour reception, we have notes in front of lift .advise guest it is best to use third lift for level 6. with 24 hours reception Staffs on hand are prepared to do all possible to assist in any situations, I hope you reach out to me as we take your input with serious consideration. Looking forward to hear from you. again please allow me to express my sincerest apologies first Hotel Management Regards

I stayed there on March 22, 2024, the next day we were going to Melbourne for a few days and I asked to leave some suitcases in the storage room they have in front of the reception and they told me yes, so we left two suitcases and we left . When I returned, only one of them was there, the other did not appear, so I explained the situation to them at the reception and they looked at the cameras and indeed they confirmed my entry into that room with the luggage missing, but when I asked them to look at the cameras who I had removed that luggage, they told me that they couldn't watch three days of filming, but then why are the cameras, anyway, in order not to go on too long, they kept me for two hours without giving me any solution to the robbery that occurred at the hotel, but instead they told me that At most they were going to refund me the night's accommodation (which did not happen) and no other compensation when at least the loss of my belongings was 1000 dollars.
Obviously I need to know what happened to my luggage but it is striking that they would not be interested in knowing what happened with a robbery inside their hotel.

Whoever reads this, don't even think about staying here. He traveled frequently to Sydney and often used hotels in the area. No problem until today. The general condition of the hotel is deplorable, scratched walls, poor cleaning... But the worst thing is the noise.
At 11 pm I was woken up by a strong vibration, undoubtedly an airplane (the small ones are under my window). I went down to reception and the employee offered me a room change but told me there would be no more noise. It's 1 a.m. and for about 45 minutes the same noise hasn't stopped.
I went back down to reception and another employee told me that he could give me a room on the other side where the noise would be "somewhat less." No comment

We stayed for one night at the Ibis Budget hotel in Mascot, Sydney. We were given a dog friendly ground floor room and we paid $207 (this included parking). We didn’t expect any extra benefits such as bathroom amenities etc but we did expect the room to be clean - it was far from clean, it was filthy. There were brown splatters along one wall, the other walls were similarly dirty, nothing had been wiped down, and the bathroom itself was appalling. The shower was still dirty from previous guests. There was long black hair stuck to the tiles and other hair in the drain. Pieces of plastic were left on the shower floor, probably from shampoo bottles or similar. Not one surface had been cleaned, there were remnants of someone’s makeup on the bathroom door. Dust was very evident everywhere. The whole room needs a deep clean. Thankfully the sheets on the bed appeared fresh and clean. Opposite our room was the linen room, the door was wide open and there were piles of dirty linen on the floor. It’s obvious this hotel has a shortage of housekeeping staff, however standards shouldn’t slip that far, it’s shameful.

This hotel is walkable to the Domestic Terminals with a paid shuttle A$10 to the International. Rooms are small but well furnished with Queen bed, hanging & luggage space. Good for an overnight. No restaurant or bar but options for food Mantra right next door or McD’s & KFC 5 mins walk.
You get what you paid for a room with bed. Staff efficient but no smiles or niceties almost automaton ie not enjoying.

I stayed for 1 night in mid June 2023. The shuttle from domestic terminal to hotel was easy and the driver was curteous. They seem to have an arrangement with the hotels which collect the payment dor the shuttle. The hotel check in staff were well informed and helpful. I had a small request which I thought they may be reluctant to help with, however to my surprise the hotel manager and the female asian receptionist were very helpful. I forgot to ask their names. Overall despite them being busy they were always happy to help.

It starts at 7am from the terminals but earlier from the ibis I think. There’s also an airport taxi ( check with reception) The shuttle is $10 per person so if you don’t have much luggage it’s cheaper to taxi (or walk- it’s only 10 min to domestic) if you have 2 or more. There’s a link to shuttle info on their website. Ibissydneyairport
