If Rydges hotel is the last impression our international guests will have of Australia then we have failed them. Dismally. This hotel, and the ‘Deluxe Airport View’ room we stayed in are filthy! When I say filthy, I mean disgustingly dirty. I was horrified walking into the room. For almost $300 a night, the room looks as though it hasn’t been cleaned in months. Dust everywhere. Marks on the walls. Streaks on the shower glass. Sticky toilet floor. Marks all over the carpet. The build up of dirt in the toilet and bathroom are surely a health hazard. There is no mini bar. No water even. Nothing. And if you attempt to call room service, they won’t answer the phone. We had to go downstairs and place our food order at the bar. Only bar food available too as both restaurants are closed indefinitely. We ordered a specific wine bottle. They brought just one glass and still charged us for the full bottle. Yet to be resolved. They finally brought a bottle, but it was the wrong one. A cheaper bottle… but still charged us for the more expensive one. There is no airport view from the window! This ‘plane spotting package’ we paid for was nowhere to be seen. We were too over it to complain. It’s like the staff and hotel have given up the will to live and are just going through the motions. They know people are limited for choice (it’s the only hotel across the road from international departures) so they monopolise on that. Come on guys. This is the last impression our foreign guests will have of us. Or in our case, the start of what hopes to be a wonderful international holiday in Europe. This hotel needs to step up its game. Poor form. Possibly the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, in my life. And I’m a seasoned traveler. 😥…
This hotel is literally steps away from the international terminal but we don’t just stay here when we have flights. It’s a really fun hotel to stay at because you have a view of the International airport and you can basically sit in your room all day and watch the planes come in and out. A very comfortable deluxe hotel with great restaurants and a rooftop bar with an airport view. It literally takes two minutes to walk from the airport car park to the hotel. A very convenient place to stay if you are flying out of Sydney .
We'd stayed here in late 2019. An airport hotel but one with a decent restaurant as well as a decent nights sleep. The post Covid experience was not as happy. Only a ground floor bar with food (a reasonable selection) and an obvious staff shortage. Either of their own making or the general staff situation prevailing post covid. The staff tried hard but this was the budget experience. still a good nights sleep, easy access to airport in the morning, close to the carpark. I guess all the basics. We will book again/
Stayed overnight at the hotel as had an early flight the next day. Being close to departures is it’s one and only saving grace atm. Would really love to give more positive feedback but it wasn’t good. Big queue for check -in. Mustafa on reception didn’t give any greeting, wasn’t very courteous. He also didn’t give any information about food discount as members, we had to ask about the 1 complimentary members drink. Staff told us they are still so understaffed, they took our menus away at the bar and replaced them with a new, very minimal menu. Were told the restaurant upstairs was closed, as was the rooftop bar. Guests were instructed to otherwise order Uber eats or menu log themselves?! Never had this in a hotel anywhere, let alone a ? 4*hotel. Room had view of a carpark, Was so dark we had to keep the light on all the time & the room smelt damp. The bed was great, cannot fault it. And would love to have given a lot more positive feedback but this hotel is clearly overwhelmed with lack of staffing. What Rydges are not doing is letting guests know prior to arriving about their situation, so customers are having to take a half-pie service/product rather than limiting the number of guests coming in and giving them the service they are paying for. It’s been going on for weeks now. Will not be staying there again – will be giving the trade to other hotels who are similarly struggling perhaps staff wise, but are making sure they can deliver. Have given Rydges several tries in recent months & two other airport hotels also. Rydges is not cheap & not delivering unfortunately.…
Hotel is right opposite the terminal, which is great when your going to or coming off a long or early flight. The staff were friendly and they were happy to give a late check out without an extra charge. The room was clean and tidy, and very comfortable.
