Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Moxy Sydney Airport's atmosphere is often praised for its trendy vibes, blending modern and retro decor with playful games, providing a cozy ambiance. Despite mixed feedback on its location, with some guests finding it less convenient for dining and leisure, others value its proximity to the airport. The rooms, while noted for their cleanliness and modern flair, are considered small and lacking in amenities by some, yet suitable for brief stays. While the hotel's distinctive amenities and shuttle service are a hit, the limited room features and absence of certain comforts have left some guests wanting more.
Service quality appears to fluctuate, with reports of both commendable hospitality and occasional disorganization. Cleanliness is a strong suit, with the hotel earning compliments for its well-maintained rooms. However, the perceived value is contentious, with travelers pointing out the high shuttle costs and expensive upgrades as downsides.

Detailed Reviews
I was initially really excited to stay at this hotel but throughout my experience it just misses the mark for the sort of price point they are chasing.
Upon arrival the hotel looks impressive but disappointed in not being able to find any information on their website in relation to how to get to the hotel. It’s a little further from some of the other hotels and some of the walk is without a pathway from the airport so you have to walk down the road on the street to the hotel.
The dinner options at the hotel are very limited. The menu seems to be centred around these “pockets” and fries and Mezze with no other options or choice. I get what they’re trying to do, but I feel like people want choice and traditional favourites. Ended up eating at another hotel down the road and another couple at the same hotel seemed to follow me too.
Breakfast was another odd experience. $25 off buffet, which admittedly is cheaper than most hotels but selection is very very limited. Don’t expect your choice of eggs and if you don’t like baked beans and has browns then there isn’t really much else to choose from.
There’s also no tea and coffee making facilities in the room which is a big no no for me.
I have another stay here but I’m going to cancel. It’s so disappointing as it could be so good if they just get the basics right.

Thank you for your review and for trying us out! Our new expanded menu commences on the 23rd October with a wider variety then the Mediterranean pita pockets. We wanted to keep the breakfast buffet affordable while still offering options with 4 hot dishes, fruits, yoghurts, pastries, cereals, juice and tea & coffee. Our cafe also offers a breakfast option (and great coffee for your morning caffeine hit!) or we have a grab & go for guests on the run. I hope you will try us out again, especially with the expanded menu about to start!

This was my first experience with the Moxy brand despite there being more than 100 Moxy hotels around the world. And if you stay, be prepared for a different hotel experience. I see from some of the reviews that not everyone is thrilled with their experience but bear with me. There are some pretty hot deals at this hotel right now, so it's a good time to try it out.
Now remember this is an *airport* hotel, not a resort or luxury city hotel. Yes, the rooms are small (18sqm)l, but since when did you ever need a big room at an airport hotel? - and yes, some of the interior design is unconventional, like the basin in the main room and 'walldrobe'.
Dining too is unusual and not necessarily where you would take your first date. It's very 'grab and go' and not particularly conducive to a sit-down meal experience. BUT you have to give Moxy points for daring to be different. Take a stroll around the lobby and discover some of the fun 'easter eggs' like the vinyl record player and vintage arcade game. The meeting spaces are quite interesting too.
I stayed two nights between an event and an international flight in Room 1117 and was perfectly satisfied. That said, there are a few points needing attention. I can see check-in getting congested at peak times and perhaps management needs to be creative here, like seating waiting guests and giving them a free drink (which you get anyway on arrival).
Some of the new staff need to sharpen up their guest interaction ie please never greet a guest with "You right there?" And one of the food servers had a nasty cough which he wasn't too careful about disguising. But these niggles can occur at any hotel, so it's not a Moxy problem as such.
In summary, Moxy is trying to put the fun back in travel and anything hotels can do to relieve the stress of travel is a good thing. Give Moxy a go.

Hey Rodeime, Thanks for your review and you are on point as Moxy is an unconventional hotel brand with Marriott Bonvoy! Our rooms are cozy, but they have everything you need for travelling through to the airport. Glad you took a moment to explore the lobby and discover our hidden gems, games and fun points of difference. We hope to see you next time you are travelling through Sydney (with or without your first date!) Peace, Love + MOXY

The Moxy at Sydney Airport was a good hotel and recommended. The service was excellent and professional and friendly. The decor was "Moxy" and qite interesting, the rooms relatively small but comfortable. There is a shuttle service from the airport at $10 which must be booked ahead of time on-line. On arrival this turned up fifteen minutes late. The restaurant food is basic but good and overall a good overnight stop at Sydney Airport.

Hey Oldjack, Thank you for your review and for staying at Moxy Sydney Airport! We truly appreciate your kind words regarding our excellent and friendly service - the Moxy crew are the heartbeat of the hotel. The hotel is design led with active social spaces such as the lounge room and bar for guests to socialize in and the rooms are cozy but have everything you need! We have just launched a new dinner menu - I hope you can try this menu next time you stay. Thank you for the feedback regarding the shuttle bus and I am sorry to hear that it was late. We are reviewing the booking process and timetable to ensure we can look after our guests better. Travel well and we hope to see you next time! Peace, Love + Moxy

We stayed one night at the Moxy as we were flying out the next morning to Tasmania. Our booking included not only our room but also their shuttle service to/from the airport, breakfast and WiFi. All aspects of our stay was top notch. The room was clean and had everything that one would need including a nice powerful shower. Even though the hotel is located very close to the airport our room was extremely quiet which was what we needed as we were very jet lagged. The breakfast provided was also really good with a large selection of items including eggs, sausage, beans and mushrooms as well as toast, cereal and yogurts. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return again in future.

This place is located on the middle of nowhere, if you wanted to walk anywhere it’s across wasteland. Felt unsafe. Don’t bother with their expensive hotel shuttle to airport at 12 dollars per person, we booked a taxi (through the hotel reception desk) for only 13 dollars for the journey. The rooms were very small and just ‘odd’. They’re trying to be trendy, but the concrete sink is located in the bedroom and glass privacy bathroom window is translucent! We were on the 12th floor and the window wobbled!! Unhelpful and abrupt staff on front desk too. I really didn’t like this place.

Marriott chain hotels are usually my first choice being a lifetime gold member. We stayed at the hotel mainly because of its proximity to the airport but I can only describe this hotel as horrible. Apparently the Moxy wants to be modern and funky but is more like a youth hostel than a hotel. The main concept seems to be "do it yourself" rather than providing a service.
We arrived with quite some luggage but no hotel staff to be seen that could help. We struggled to carry our luggage which eventually motivated a staff member to point at the ramp where you can carry up your luggage yourself. In front of the reception which is shared with their bar was a long queue. No sign of priority check in for members. We arrived by car and asked for parking but the hotel only offers Valet Parking at $40 per day, no self-parking. Everything is self-service but not parking. Since we arrived on a Saturday afternoon, I saw that parking is actually free on the street until Monday morning. The receptionist had no idea.
Of course nobody helped us to carry our luggage to the room or at least offer a trolly, so we carried it ourselves. The room was small but at least clean. If you want to use a table and chairs, they are hanging on the wall and you can take them down yourself if you find enough space. The tiny sink is in the main room which is not only odd but also inconvenient. There is no mini bar but of course you can go down yourself and use their vending machines or bar. We wanted to have dinner and since there is no room service, we went down and found a menu at the bar. The prices are on the high side for what they offer and the lobby/bar/entertainment/dining/reception/gaming area was crowded and noisy. We decided to walk to another hotel for dinner which offered proper service at similar prices.
There is no welcome points for members but they offer a tiny cocktail. Don't bother trying it.
The next day we dragged our luggage down again and used, guess what, the self check out to leave. The only useful self service option in this hotel, so we did not have to join the long queue at the reception again.
I can only recommend to other Marriott Bonvoy members to not choose this hotel. There are no benefits and for the 222 $ I paid for a night, you can definitely find a better hotel near the airport.

Hi Andreas, I am truly sorry to hear about your recent experience with us. As a lifetime Bonvoy Gold member, you’re absolutely right to expect exceptional service and benefits, and it’s disappointing to learn that we fell short. Sorry to hear that our “do it yourself” approach didn’t quite meet your expectations. We embrace the self-service style here at Moxy, but we understand they might not always hit the right note for everyone. As a unique Moxy brand, we offer a different experience compared to our other Marriott brands like Westin, Sheraton, and Marriott. We're more of a boutique experience and don’t offer full-service amenities like bellman services. While our team is dedicated to creating memorable moments, some services might not be available as you’d find in other Marriott properties. Regarding parking, we offer only valet service due to the building’s layout, which restricts access for our Fun Hunters for security reasons. Peace, Love + MOXY

The team here certainly knows how to treat you and make you feel welcome. From the Front desk team with Gui, who checked us in, to Zoey, who arranged our reservation. It was the little details that made it such a memorable stay from the cocktail on check-in at the bar, arcade games in the lobby, to the coloring book for my little girl the team was so welcoming. The convenient airport shuttle and breakfast was such an added bonus to make a canceled flight feel like a fleeting moment. As an experienced traveller The Moxy is must stay when next in Sydney.

As a lifetime Bonvoy titanium member I am entitled to an upgrade. This hotel charged me $40.00 to upgrade from a queen to a king room. Not a suite, just a slightly bigger room. In addition they charge $12.00 for a shuttle to the airport which is a 10 minute walk. I would not stay there again. People working there were very nice, but the owners don’t treat guests as they should.

Marvelous advance and helpful email and call with this property resulted in very early check-in, lovely King room upgrade, learning nice hotel dining options and improved understanding of transportation options. Marvelous energy and excellent service from the front desk team. With our early starts, they stocked our refrigerator with “breakfast in a box” and treats for our late returns. Marvelous lobby has a fun bar, dinner options, skeet ball and ping pong table.
On arrival afternoon, we took a nice historical walking tour with Craig of Dave’s Tours. Our second day we visited Darling Harbor and the Australian National Maritime Museum and walked aboard a Destroyer and a Patrol Boat, crawled through a submarine and encountered history with the tall ships. Then crossed the walking bridge to sample restaurants and ice cream. Our third day was wonderful arranged with Bob of Anderson Tours small group tour to the Blue Mountain, Scenic World, lunch, new Sydney Zoo and ferry boat on the river into Sydney Harbor.
From SYD took Virgin Australia to Cairns and then onto Brisbane.
Thank you to the Marvelous Moxy team for a Marvelous start on our vacation.

Let's start with the positive things: The lobby and bar area is really nice, games, nice design, nice architecture. Annoyingly loud muzak playing though.
The rooms are small, ok, but does the sink really have to be outside the shower and toilet area, in the entrance of the room? Some people value privacy even when travelling with a partner.
The gym is well equipped and nice. The breakfast, however, is mediocre at best, very limited choices, only toast bread and dishwater coffee. If you want a decent coffee you have to buy one. The same applies to decent croissants and pastries. No coffee at the room, not even a kettle. Their pick-up did not work well, we had to wait for 30 minutes. As an apology we received voucher coins for the bar. However, this could only be used on a beer or the really bad house wine.

We wanted to keep it affordable for our guests while covering all the essentials. Thanks again for your feedback and candor. Peace + Love + MOXY
