When looking for a hotel or apartment to stay for two nights in Botany, I chose the AEA Apartments because they offered a 1 and 2 bedroom apartment with living room and kitchen facilities - rather than a room only hotel suite.

Travelling with another conference attendee (female), we needed two separate bedding arrangements and while online CHATTED with the Hotelclub.com.au representative, she CONFIRMED that the divan/sofa in the living room was sleepable and would be made up with linen.

The first piece of bad luck was to try to enter the property at 4pm. At the front door (off a busy cross street to Botany Road) the buzzer brought no one. A telephone call to the onsite manager, reservations number and then manager again, finally brought a tall, shoeless man in socks and dirty shorts and t-shirt to open the locked door for us.

We checked in and were given the swipe key, travelled up the lift to our floor to find the key not working. Back down to reception, and Ali returned with a master key and reprogrammed our key.

Second hiccup was to find the sofa bed NOT made up as hoped and promised by the woman on the chat. This information had not been communicated to the bookings centre, so we had to beg for some sheeting, and took two pillows and cotton blanket off the queen bed. Just as well it was not winter. Mr Ali was not able to find any blankets and not too concerned about the situation he was leaving us in, although he did promise to get us a better room the next night. The sofa bed frame was also broken because someone must have sat on it to watch TV (a very small flat screen), no TV in the Bedroom. AND, the carpet was stained and needed a replacement in my view. Not dirty, but just ugly.

Well, the next day, there was no one at reception at 8.30am when we had to leave and no one on our return at 5.15pm. Office hours are too restrictive at 9-5pm and a log by telephone to the After hours Paging Service brought NO HELP.
Telephone onthe wall doesn't work so not sure how people get one without a mobile phone.

On the positive side, the location was perfect for accessing the Commercial area of Lord Street and the living room was large enough for a party of eight, but the experience makes you wonder how they get anyone to return.
Nice bathroom with full laundry facilities and kitchen well stocked.

Lift your game AEA, get better service and treat your customers with respect.

Thank you for taking the time and providing feedback on your stay. We are sincerely disappointed that we failed to provide the exceptional service we always strive for here at AEA. Your comments are very important to us and I can assure you we have taken them into consideration. We would like to thank you for pointing out that we do in fact offer larger apartments with kitchen and laundry facilities, as we like guests to feel at home and have available to them the best facilities possible. However, we would like to apologise that you were greeted in an unprofessional manner. Unfortunately, at times our building managers also perform maintenance duties and are sometimes somewhat unprofessionally dressed due to this, however, this should not have occurred and I can assure you it has been brought up with our General Manager. As a result, we now have a permanent receptionist at our Mascot building to greet guests in a more appropriate and welcoming manner, so we thank you for your feedback. We would also like to apologise for the miscommunication by hotelclub.com.au and the representative that you chatted too. I can assure you that your bed would have been ready upon your arrival had there not been a miscommunication somewhere along the long so we would like to apologise to you for such an inconvenience. We understand that our guests are travelling and often tired and we never want to inconvenience them on their travels and we take every measure not to do so, we are sincerely apologetic that in your experience this was not the case. I would like to further apologise that you found our previous building manager unhelpful and I can assure you that should you choose to return to visit us; this would no longer be the case. We value your feedback and do everything we can to make our guests feel at home. We are glad you appreciated our prime location here in Mascot. We are also pleased that you were able to utilise our many facilities. All our apartments include fully equipped laundries and kitchens as we strive to make our guests feel at home, even when they aren’t! We would like to invite you back and hope to make your next stay a much better experience. Please feel free to contact me and I will personally assist you in organising your next visit here at AEA Sydney Airport.

Lets start with a positive. The car parking is great big spaces and well secured and inexpensive at $15 per day.....

In my room the Lounge light was blown, the bathroom had an enormous crack in the wall and the couch was worse than something one would find in a laneway on hard rubbish day. I stayed 5 days and did not sit on it once. it had holes in it and the leather/vinyl looked moldy yuck.I have attached couch photos. I ask you would you sit on that??

The big clincher was that the toilet did not flush. to get it to work I had to take the top off and manually push down the mechanism for the cistern to fill then push the flush button. and then it would keep filling and running so that it made a hissing noise and wasted water so I had to stop it from doing that. I asked that the light and toilet be fixed which the light was but the toilet was not.

Carpet was 100 years old and tissue thin.

The location is convenient to the airport and major freeways, it is an easy walk to IGA and a few places to eat in including a pub, some Thai and middle eastern food and a bottle shop also.

Staying here a number of times now and had only 1 bad experience with the building manager/reception. Being called a liar certainly makes you think twice about staying. But there is nothing wrong with the apartments. The cleaners are great. It's centrally located and prices are great. Old yes but well maintained for its age and the beds are wonderful. Just have to wait for the apology from the building manager to make these apartments 100% happy again.

My first stay with the property. Great stay and I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 days in Mascot. 5m walk to Mascot town and public transport. plenty cafes, shops and post office.
Spacious and clean room, comfy bed. Washing machine and dryer in the room is very useful for any traveller. There is a large fridge, microwave and oven if needed. All basic amenities like dental kit, shampoo, soap and laundry washing powder are complimentary. Property manager phone is available for after hours emergencies. Nothing is too much trouble for always friendly and courteous staff and the property manager Diana. Keep up the great efforts and providing real value for money service. Thank you for the memorable stay and sure to stay again. Please be gentle and kind with your feedback as the sector is going through the redemption process since the global pandemic. If you are arriving after 6pm please contact the property in advance to organise hassle free check in.

No one was at reception for me to check in during business hours. It took 45 minutes for me to get a hold of someone to gain access to my room using the emergency contact number, after I'd made numerous attempts to call the building manager directly.

The room was dusty, there were light globes blown. Missing light fitting in the bathroom. Bed was uncomfortable. The sound of running showers from other units was extremely loud.

I chose to stay here as I'd stayed here back in 2009 for 7 weeks and it was okay. I certainly won't be coming back and definitely wouldn't recommend staying here.

You know, I try really hard to see the good in places that I stay and try not to be a snob, but this place was really disappointing. Firstly, my apartment was NOTHING like the glossy pictures on the website. On the website the apartments are bright and light and airy. Mine was dark and dull and dingy. But it wasn’t just that it was dark and dreary, it was in a terrible shape and smelt old.

The carpets were dark blue with lots of stains on them, there were marks on the walls, including what looked like coffee and other stuff splashed on the walls and left to drip down. I cleaned a couple of the marks off myself which prompts me to ask the question; why have the cleaning staff not done that?

The oven was filthy, the stove top was dirty, the a/c vents were dirty, the tops of the curtains were literally CAKED in dirt and filth. The glass topped dining table and coffee table were dirty, and the glass sliding door and windows were dirty. Now what’s interesting about the filth is that there are signs warning you that if you leave the oven dirty for example, you’ll be charged a cleaning fee!!!!! Man, I felt like I should be charging them a cleaning fee.

I wish the filth was my only complaint, but there were other things too. There were stacks of broken tiles in the bathroom, there was no milk in the fridge (I've NEVER stayed anywhere where they don’t at least have some little UHT milks for your tea or coffee), the TV was a cheap, crappy tinny sounding one, the bed was rock hard and the pillows were lumpy and awful.

The other thing I didn’t like was the offensive artwork in the hallways. Most of it was basically soft porn and objectifying to women. I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable staying there with my wife and daughter.

For me, the only positives were the fact that the young lady on the desk when I arrived was very friendly and professional and the location and price are pretty impressive. I made a last minute booking when I had to change my flight and just wanted to be somewhere close to the airport without paying a fortune since I wasn’t arriving till dinner time and was leaving early the next morning. It cost me $150 for the night, a saving of about $50 on the nearest price I found at a local motel, but to be honest with you, it just wasn’t worth it.

I really wish I didn’t have to write such a bad review, but I just found this to be a complete and utter disappointment and I simply would not recommend it.

I would not stay here again and definitely would not recommend it. Unserviced apartment, leftovers from meal were left in plain site to be taken out but were left in the apartment leaving a 'nice smell' for me when I got home.

Only went here because of the "rave" reviews, so here's the real deal.... We stayed in the "luxury" 2-bedroom "penthouse" apartment and it was terrible. The only positive was the large screen Sony T.V. in the family room. Now for the bad stuff. It is run down in all areas with 70's - 80's furniture. The air-con was so noisy that I had to drag a single mattress into the family room to escape the noise. The freight trains that are about 50 metres away occur throughout the night and are very noisy. Some of the lights in the family room went on and off due to electrical faults. The main power point in the kitchen is either held in by 1 screw or the other one needs tightening. There is a 70's type double adapter (not sure if they are still legal) for the fridge and microwave power point. The sofa and other single chair in the lounge area are something you would see on a roadside clean up - just tacky vinyl, different colours and frayed around all the edges. The doonas are too hot to sleep under. The bathroom was terrible. Paying top dollar for absolute rubbish. Good for people who have deep pockets and can handle it rough.

Creepy room with questionable soft porn pictures on the walls. Dirty. Snooty receptionist. Filthy carpets, lift that sounded like it was about to plunge to the depths. And to top it all off - really really expensive!
