Enter as strangers - Leave as friends...... This is your "Home away from Home" from the moment you arrive right up until it's time to leave. Where complete rest and relaxation are guaranteed. Immerse yourself in the historic yet relaxed charm, combined by a certain "bon viveur" that is the epitome of Country House Living - the epitome of Plas Tan-Yr-Allt. Perched high on a hillside and nestled amongst some 40 acres of ancient woodlands with long lensed views over the Glaslyn Estuary, Ffestiniog Steam Railway to the Plantagenet Castle of Harlech and mountains beyond. Tanny, as its affectionately known by its current owners and those in the "know," was the first Regency Villa in North Wales built by William Madocks, the esteemed philanthropist and entrepreneur. His vantage point "spectaculaire" to observe his newly constructed Cob, the then gateway to the area's mountain quarries and bustling international port of Porth Madoc (Madocks Port / Porthmadog) and Tre Madoc (Madocks Town / Tremadog) with its aptly named London and Dublin Streets respectively. All designed and built in typical Madocks style - the architecture very much thought out and in the latest "rigueur du jour." Captivated by the idyllic of all settings, the 18th-century literary superstar Percy B Shelley completed his most famous of works, Queen Mab "All things are recreated." Other noted residents include Elizabeth Billington, the opera singer of her day, EF Benson of Mapp & Lucia provenance, Miss Mary Hilda Greaves, the aunt of Portmerion founder and architect "extraordinaire" Sir Clough Willams-Ellis, to name but a few. Having recently refurbished the Plas, the current owners Howard and Mark are offering three luxuriously appointed bedrooms, complete with antiquities and period features, all named after some of its previous residents: The William Madocks Bedroom, Shelley's Theatre and Miss Hilda's Bedroom. All rooms come complete with an array of creature comforts consistent with a property of this type (please refer to individual room description for further detail). Lavishly appointed en-suite bathrooms with slate underfloor heating complete the picture. We very much welcome you to our home here at Plas Tan-Yr-Allt.

A wonderful welcome to a wonderful house and home. Thank you, Mark and Howard, for a lovely stay. As proprietors you do give very personal service. The afternoon cream tea was delightful; Mark served this (probably prepared it too) in the superb drawing room, and made us feel very much at home by staying to chat. Every piece of furniture, picture, ornament has been chosen with exquisite taste. We learned about the eighteenth century owner, Maddocks. He built the embankment called 'The Cob'; thus securing a large area from intrusion by the Irish sea, and creating the port of Porthmadog. Our room (Shelley, the poet) was spacious and well equipped, as was the ensuite bathroom. Breakfast was wonderful, again served by Mark, though we also said hello to Howard, think that he was on chef duty; making a perfect Welsh breakfast. Bear in mind you will need to go out for dinner; Mark arranged that, as well as the taxi (don't think about walking); his choice the Sgwar in Tremadog is brilliant (but busy, you may have to settle for the Union Inn). You will be lucky to get a room at Plas Tan Yr Allt this summer, we picked up a cancellation , but there are only 3 bedrooms; well worth looking at their website; Mark and Howard give a generous discount when you book direct.

It was our first stay at Plas Tan-Yr-Allt as a surprise birthday break. The hosts were absolutely first class and extremely tentative. The attention to detail concerning the precautions for the Coronavirus was exceptional and helped to give a sense of security during the stay. We loved everything about the place, the house itself and its fantastic history, the decor and furnishings, the garden, the bedroom and not forgetting the wonderful view over the Glaslyn Estuary. From the moment we arrived and had afternoon tea, sat on the veranda, we were able to relax and enjoy a special weekend with the added benefit of sunshine every day, which really put the icing on the cake. Breakfast was excellent and helped to set us up each day for exploring the area around Porthmadog and some lovely spots on the Llyn Peninsula. Thank you Howard and Mark for a memorable weekend. We will certainly recommend you to our friends and we hope that it will not be too long before we are able to return and enjoy your wonderful hospitality again. Alan and Sandy

Plas Tan yr-Allt was the perfect place to unwind and relax. Just what we needed. The view is second to none. Our room was lovely, decorated in keeping with the building with humour ie the blind with chair print by the “throne”. The bed was super comfy with good linen. Lots of good towels. Facilities and room was spotless. Breakfast was perfect. Hosts willing helpful and thoughtful. We would have no hesitation booking again.
