We stayed here during a trip we took to Europe for our anniversary. It was adorable. First let me start with you have to come for the scenery, not just the distilleries - as was the reason we originally came, my husband loves several Scotches made on the island. The owners were warm and inviting. We had tea upon arrival... More

If you should ever visit Islay (and you SHOULD), there is a most AMAZING bnb called Glenmachrie Country Guest house run by Rachel and Alisdair Whyte. Rachel is not only an incredible cook but she arranged many of our visits and found us a driver. Everyone we met was genuinely warm and friendly!!! We will return if only to experience... More

We stayed at Glenmachrie in March, and had an amazing three days. There was a fire in the hearth, a treat waiting for us when we arrived (we couldn't get in early enough for afternoon tea). The breakfast was AMAZING! The scones were specatular, and so were the kippers. I tried to eat the whole Scottish breakfast on our first... More

We are 2-couples traveling together through Scotland from the US. I planned the trip to Islay and decided on Glenmachrie based on the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. What a great choice! From the minute I contacted the innkeeper, Rachel, she was amazingly helpful. She advised me to book our ferry immediately from Kennecraig to Islay (absolutely mandatory!), she recommended... More

Rachel is a wonderful host and makes the best breakfast I have had, beating 5* hotels around the world. She truly enjoys welcoming guests to her home, and goes out of her way to help. Rooms are small-ish, but to be expected in this part of the world. Very comfortable, and all very clean. A wonderful place to stay all... More

Rachel could school the finest hotels in the world on hospitality - she welcomed my folks and I into her guest house like we were her favorite relatives (without being overbearing) and went out of her way to ensure our trip to Islay was truly special. She knows everyone on the Island and helped us plan and maximize the few... More

What a delight to find an establishment that puts customer's comfort first. This owner has a real passion for her job and it is evident throughout the property. No minimalistic room designs here ! everything carefully thought out for ease of use and for your comfort. So refreshing to find these kind of rooms instead of latest trends of hospital... More

This place is average at best , they have great pictures online but the rooms are just about ok. The prices we paid is top end on the island. We stayed for one night and then decided to move. We had booked a sea facing room - well the room was sea facing but the sea was more than a... More

We arrived in Islay without a prebooked accomodation. The tourist office in Bomore helped us find Glenmachrie House and their comment was "you will be well taken care of". This is the most modest way to describe Rachel's hospitality! She took care of all our reservations, she suggested different options, she was really concerned about us! Breakfast in this place...
