A must stay place if you're visiting Scotland. Excellent place to stay to give you the feeling of how people lived 100's of years ago. Beautiful welcome basket filled with goodies when you arrive. All the conveniences of home but at the same time the rooms, stairs and lookout transform you back in time.

My family and I stayed here last September. It is hands down the most memorable place ever! It was the highlight of our trip. I will warn however that it is not for those who have problems moving around or the weak. The staircases are steep and uneven. Using the handrails are a must. You learn quickly to bring everything... It was a big thrill for everyone. We had a big family party on the Saturday - BBQ outside. The children slept in the bothie in their sleeping bags with two adults in the bedroom. Some enjoyed the beautiful bedrooms in the Tower and others went to their homes to return the next day. the children enjoyed the experience enormously... More

First, let me say that staying in a historic venue is amazing and I am very happy to have stayed at the Tower of Hallbar. A wonderful food basket awaited us and there was a vase of beautiful roses and lilies on the kitchen table. Everything was neat and clean. There are features that can be enhanced to make this... We had a wonderful, amazing, magical stay at the tower. The setting was idyllic, close to shops and easy access to Edinburgh and Glasgow but the actual grounds were secluded and peaceful with a river running right outside and from the top of the tower, gorgeous rolling countryside could be seen. We were 2 families with 10,11 and 12 year... More

Our stay at the Tower could not have been more magical. From our arrival complete with floral arrangements and gift basket to the easy departure, nothing could be improved upon. The restoration beautifully completed by obviously skilled craftsman. The location is close enough to both Edinburgh and Glasgow that both can easily be visited without the expense of an in... More

My husband, two adult children, and I traveled to the UK over spring break 2014 so I could share many of my early 20's adventures and places I loved with them. The Tower of Hallbar was easily the highlight of our trip. We we charmed by the history of it, the comfort in a medieval tower like this was outstanding.... More

What a gorgeous castle. It was truly a great experience to stay at the tower. I did not think about how tiring the stairs would be beforehand, but I should have! It's a castle!! Of course the stairs are plentiful. The atmosphere was top notch and the restoration work was first class. It was truly a once in a lifetime... More

I gave this 4 because the building is fabulous. We'd visited twice before and it was outstanding. Sadly, the exemplary caretaker appears to have gone. I just completed their questionnaire; it might be worth the money to get a properly designed questionnaire . It didn't give me the options to tell them: Having raved to our friends about the high... We stayed here with our kids and had an absolutely wonderful time. The staff was great in all the planning ahead of time and the trip went exactly as planned. The place is flawless - there is nothing I would change. A unique balance of history and comfort that left us with many found memories. We're actually going back again... More

“You rent the entire castle/tower along with a cottage. If you struggle with stairs, you'll want to stay in the cottage, but don't miss the tower. We stayed on the top floor of the tower and it was absolutely amazing!”
