My partner and I love the area around Dornoch and had promised to return for a long weekend having passed through in the summer. There are plenty of places to stay and we decided on the Castle Hotel, seeing as it has the whole castle thing going on and the web site makes the whole thing look quite impressive. We...

On arrival at the hotel we were welcomed by a lovely girl (can't believe I can't remember her name she has a friend studying in Glasgow city college ) she checked us in and then took us personally to...

My wife booked us a winter spa weekend as a birthday treat for me. From the moment we arrived until we left, the staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for us. The food was fantastic - from the venison carpaccio to the venison main course. Absolute perfection. On Saturday night, we had pan fried venison which has to be...

Another night away from home travelling for business. We were met on reception by a delightful young gentleman who was very knowledgeable and he actually showed us to our room . The ambience off the room was lovely, lamps on cosy dressing gowns on the bed. We booked a table to eat in the bar area. We lounged in front...

Stayed for an evening in the Tower Room. Room was well presented with a lovely oak 4 poster bed, nice traditional furniture and a wood burning stove which was great to sit and have a "dram" in front of!!! The bathroom had a jet bath which was good but the water pressure wasn't great for the shower. The bar area...

Two nights here wasn't cheap. The rooms in the main building, which is actually a castle, are historic and dark so if you prefer lighter rooms go for the Garden Rooms. We had a deluxe garden room with a view over the garden, large sunny windows, bath robes and slippers. Service is excellent and the rooms are very well equipped....

We love the Dornoch Castle Hotel restaurant and have eaten there many times, to date we've never had a bad meal, the wines are good and the extensive whiskey collection is an absolute must. I can't comment on the hotel because we've never stayed, but I can't imagine it would be anything other than great.

I have stayed 6 times over the past year, while on business. Its usually a mix of tourers, romancers and golfers. I like the clean and comfortable rooms, the warm welcoming atmosphere and helpful staff. Its simple, uncomplicated, relaxing and nothing ever seems rushed or chaotic. It does the little things very well.

We loved our stay here! So cool to stay in a castle, with an interesting history. Loved the room, beautiful four poster bed and spacious bathroom. Lovely view of the garden and you could even see the ocean off in the distance. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's right in the center of Dornoch, so great walking distance...

We always have our morning coffee here when visiting Dornoch. Most occasions, we can sit at the large log fire on comfy couches. There is a selection of coffee and a small piece of shortbread on your saucer. Usually, we indulge with scones, jam and cream. All the home baking looks delicious. The staff are very friendly and eager to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Castle is located in the historic town of Dornoch across from the stunning 13th century Cathedral, boasting stunning views of the town. The central position of the hotel makes it ideal for exploring Dornoch, home to the world famous Royal Dornoch Golf Course, which overlooks the breath taking golden sand beach. Dornoch is also well situated for those looking to explore more of what the Highlands have to offer. The historic Castle is built on the site of the original Bishop’s Palace of St Gilbert, who founded the Cathedral in the early 13th century. The building eventually sold on and in 1947 became a hotel after some extensive work, which maintain much of the character of the Castle as a stately, historic and comfortable home. The Castle boasts a total of 22 en-suite bedrooms situated both within the original castle and the modern garden extension. There is a variety of room types available including; standard, superior, deluxe and our award winning Old Courtroom. Due to the castle’s layout each bedroom has its own special ambiance, great care has been taking in creating a distinctive character in each bedroom. The Castle's restaurant has retained an AA rosette standard, through the exceptional work from the chefs. The malt whisky selection is second to none and can be enjoyed in the cosy stone-lined whisky bar with the roaring fire to protect you from the Scottish winds, in the summer the walled garden is the perfect setting to relax during the long summer nights. Coming Summer 2016: The Dornoch Distillery will be opening soon on the grounds of the Dornoch Castle Hotel producing 'Old Style' Whisky and Hand Crafted Organic Gin from scratch. ... more   less
