We stayed for 4 nights in a 3 bedroom cottage. The house was beautiful and everything looked brand new!!! The place was immaculate and roomy. My only feedback would be to provide a cloth and scrubbing brush for dishes as I made hot chocolate for Guy Fawkes and couldn't get the pan cleaned (I left a note for house keeping), I had nothing to wipe the work tops with so asked reception but they only popped in another tea towel so I pinched a cloth from the Hub, sorry lol! I would love a proper king size bed when I go away and not 2 singles pushed together. But in all very happy.
The restaurant and facilities have been thought out very well. We particularly liked the bouncy castle beside the Terrace. Its important adults can relax whilst the kids have fun.
We found all the staff very helpful and accommodating esp as I had my disabled sister with me. The booking team were fantastic and popped us in a cottage close to the hotel considering her needs and informed us that there were steps too so we knew the accommodation would be fine for her.
Our spa treatments were very enjoyable, Nicola was excellent and Michelle looked after my sister well. I was disappointed to have £5 added onto the bill to cover PPE and time to clean. As a salon owner I know PPE does not cost this much and it only takes a few minutes to sanitize the couch and surfaces.
Our meals were delicious, a little pricey but very nice. I do not agree with the "discretionary gratuity" added on to Bill's. I would like to decide what tip I'm giving and I didn't appreciate being made to feel uncomfortable and the staff, when I asked for it to be removed. In fact in the end I couldn't be bothered asking but felt unfair being forced to pay for something. I couldn't understand why though a tip couldn't be added on at the spa and was told I could leave a cash tip, but was told on the phone the hotel was cashless?
On a whole we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we cant wait to return. The hotel really has made a huge effort considering the circumstances.

Booked 2 self catering lodges for a long weekend for my 30th birthday. We had stayed a few years ago and it was fantastic. Unfortunately I was disappointed when we returned.
Firstly, reception was fantastic. The area was well presented with a hand sanitation station at the door and easy to follow COVID related instructions. The staff were lovely, welcoming and very helpful.
By chance we ended up in the exact same 2 lodges as we had previously stayed in. They were not as good as last time. Although the lodges were clean, they were shabby and run down looking. The grouting in the kitchen was crumbling away and stained yellow. Also the plastic caps of the radiator in the bathroom were missing. It needed a lick of paint and updating. We paid over £1200 for the weekend I felt it wasn’t worth the money this time.
I was aware of the restrictions due to COVID but was pleasantly surprised at how much the hotel still had to offer. The grounds of the hotel were lovely and well kept. There was an outdoor play park, tennis courts, a field with horses and lovely areas where you could go for a walk. We booked to use the swimming pool but ended up cancelling due to not having changing facilities, we were told we had to change in a room in front of other swimmers and I didn’t fancy it, no big deal though. We instead decided we would take my two year old to the Big Country play area, that is until we discovered we could not go in with her (big country is located behind a door with no way of watching her once the door was closed). I didn’t like the idea of leaving my two year old with strangers with no way of keeping an eye on her, so that idea was out of the window!
The girls in our group decided to go for cocktails while the guys played golf. We went to The Terrace restaurant and sat outside, this was ideal as the children played on the grass where we could see them. The cocktails were delicious, however the service was questionable. We felt the girl serving us was very abrupt (tall, think girl with very long dark hair in a pony tail). We were hoping this was just a one off as we were booked to eat there that night, unfortunately not. The same girl serves us that night and her attitude hasn’t changed and also the maitre d’ who greeted us had the same attitude, so much so that I felt the need to apologise to the group (some of which had travelled 1.5 hours each way just to have a birthday meal with me). Some of our group waited a long time on drink orders, Some of our food orders were wrong, although quickly rectified. None of us could fault the food at all. Our food was beautiful!
Like I said in the title of this review, I have mixed emotions. Although we encountered some issues I still had a fabulous weekend but I feel that was more down to the group I was with rather than the actual accommodation. I have left unsure of wether or not I will return. Disappointed.

Thank you for your candid review Jay W. Firstly, it's great to hear that you enjoyed your weekend but of course it's not so great to hear that you were disappointed by some aspects of your stay. All of our guest accommodation is refurbished on a rolling basis but such a large project does take a long time to complete. Lodges in each type should carry the same level of amenities although some may have been refreshed whilst others have not. That said, we do try and address any maintenance issues promptly once we are aware of them so we are sorry that this fell short. Due to social distancing requirements, we have been unable to open our changing rooms at the present time, but are recommending that guests visit the pools ready for swimming or with their swimwear underneath their clothing to make changing easier. Big Country is supervised by our team who are fully trained and qualified although it is very popular and usually requires pre-booking. It was very disappointing to hear that you felt that the level of service could have been better as we trust that all of our team will be helpful and courteous to our guests. Your feedback has been shared with the Management Team so they can take your comments on board going forward. We do hope that you will feel able to visit us again in the future, perhaps when some of the current restrictions have been lifted.

We have stayed many times before, though not for a few years. We felt safe here for our first break after the lockdown, as we know the hotel so well.
We booked the Welcome Back package, which included one activity for free each day of our stay. I suspect we were some of the last guests to do so, so the activities were all quiet and we had no problems booking for them the evening before. When not out doing activities, we enjoyed the quizzes etc. put on by the entertainment team.
We (over 65s) and our son (early 20s) all had a great time. It was disappointing that the Meikle remained closed in the evenings, although it is still serving great breakfast! We would have tried Tiffin in the Winter Garden, but they were not able to offer a gluten free meal for us. Therefore we dined in the Terrace Restaurant (formerly the Brasserie) each of the five nights of our stay. The meals we had there were generally good, with some excellent dishes. The service was good, and the staff were all pleasant.
Rooms were comfortable, and our special request for location was accommodated. The current restrictions mean that tea/coffee, additional toilet roll, fresh towels, etc. must be requested via reception, but these were always efficiently produced. We found the rooms spotless on arrival, and did not feel the need to ask for them to be serviced during our stay.
Overall a comfortable and pleasant stay, despite the restrictions imposed on the hotel by covid-19. We look forward to our next visit.

We booked the Hydro as a treat as we'd always heard how good it is. On arrival everything seemed pretty organised, the girl on reception was lovely, screens over the reception, social distancing, and I appreciate that they, like everyone else, are adjusting to rules. Our room was very small and wonky, but we don't spend much time in our room when we're away so it was OK (also our view was lovely!).
Masks were "optional" which is great if you don't care about Covid, and it's lovely to see a huge hotel caring so much about its guests' comfort rather than safety. That should have been our first red flag.
On our second night, we booked a meal in The Terrace (it was booked up on our first night, and after a misunderstanding, we had to eat in the Hub which is a glorified canteen - not a great start to what was supposed to be a really nice trip away! However entirely our fault for not booking ahead). There were several groups of 10-15 people in The Terrace, none of them wearing masks when they walked in, walking around to talk to each other etc. A group of 15 were sat next to us and from what we gathered, none of them were in the same household, meaning there were 15 households sat together.
I complained to staff about this when we checked out and was told that "it's only government guidance so we don't have to follow it", however she assured me that they would be implementing the rules tomorrow because it becomes law (disclaimer: this was last week). So clearly the hotel does not care a jot about safety and is only doing the bare minimum if they absolutely have to. I'm frankly disgusted by her attitude, and although she said she would report my concerns to management, it was VERY apparent that she didn't care and I was offered nothing for my concerns. But don't worry, I'll be reporting you to the government if I catch Covid from my stay!
There are social distancing signs up which you'd think common sense would prevail, but many times we were in the lift (which is tiny), and people without masks would get in, pushed up against us, so perhaps they need signs on the lift saying "only one household", or maybe the lax restrictions had lulled them into a false sense of security of thinking Covid doesn't exist in the hotel.
That said (because I do want to include positives even if there weren't many), breakfast was set up really well with people serving up from behind screens, one way systems and plenty of space between tables. But why put so much effort into one part of the hotel if you're not going to bother with the rest?
This should have been a nice, relaxing stay, and instead we felt seriously uncomfortable with the flagrant disregard for the rules. Only reason I'm giving it two stars is breakfast was really good (although you have to book, and we were only able to get 7.30am each morning - again, not very relaxing, and we would have booked in advance if we'd known!), and generally all the staff were very friendly. However overall, it's actually put me off staying in any more hotels in the near future.

Thank you for posting a review on your stay clarissal. Please be assured that we do take guests safety very seriously indeed and all of your concerns have been shared with the Management Team. In line with Government guidelines, masks are now compulsory for staff and guests within the hotel. We have detailed guidance on our website so that our guests know in advance of any procedures that we have in place and this does include restrictions with regard to our lifts and other facilities as well as details on pre-booking breakfast and dinner. Our pre-arrival E-mails contain links to this information so that our guests are aware of this prior to their stay and these are regularly updated as changes occur. All of that said, we are so sorry to learn that you felt uncomfortable during your visit and that this affected you enjoyment of your stay. We can only hope that you will feel able to visit us again in the future.

Beautiful reception and fantastic reception staff, unfortunately that’s where the good part of the experience ended. The hotel is grand but very dated the pictures online extremely deceiving. The furnishings in our room were falling apart, hole is the wall and decor was very dated. I’d called ahead asked for a high chair for our baby and also checked at reception this was ok, they said it should be there already. It wasn’t, and when I called to ask a gentleman turned up with an armchair. I explained I needed a high chair and he told me “no can do only in the restaurant”. NO! Seemed to be a common answer among the staff when asking for help, no alternative and not many of them were willing to go out their way. At breakfast they wouldn’t give us a banana for our baby and on arrival for breakfast we weren’t warmly welcomed just shown to our table and off they went. The Tiffin restaurant is ‘authentic’ Indian set menu but is really no better than your local Indian takeaway. We were always looking for a waiters attention. The grounds are beautiful and Crieff itself is pleasant but don’t expect anything to be open on a Sunday, not even a coffee shop! We had some vouchers to use but be warned you cannot use them towards alcohol. The resort as you expect is ridiculously overpriced but they add on a 3% surcharge to your bill per seating and on check out they add a ‘tips to staff” fee. Some of the staff really let this resort down. I understand there are restrictions in place and there needs to be minimal contact but things like sitting with empty glasses & dirty plates to be collected to make a difference to the stay. Overall I would not stay here again and I would not recommend to any one to stay in future.

Thank you for posting a review on your stay SW090. We do trust that all of our team will be helpful and courteous to our guests, and do generally receive very positive comments regarding our team, so we are very sorry to learn that this aspect of your stay fell short on this occasion. As Trip Advisor is an anonymous forum, I do not have your booking details to hand but we do offer a range of vouchers which can may be for specific items, activities or services. As we are currently operating as a cash free resort due to precautions in place re Covid-19, for the convenience of our guests who would like to leave a gratuity for our team, a 10% service charge is currently added. Every penny of this goes to our frontline team but it is entirely optional and we ask our guests just to let us know if they do not want this to be applied. Details are given on the menus in our restaurants and on our website. Without having the individual details of your bill, we have not been able to look into the additional 3% charge to which you refer but if you would like to discuss your stay further, please do contact our Customer Service Team on Customer.Service@crieffhydro.com.

Just returned from a 4 night stay we booked a superior double in the Leigh was lovely particularly the bathroom with roll top bath. Found the hotel staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast good, food at hub and terrace good but the tiffin was absolutely awful firstly we barely sat down and waiter came to take order felt like minutes later he was back again, we weren’t told how menu worked basically a choice of 3 set menus, more like a tasting menu Starter arrived quickly after ordering mine was stone cold told 2 waiters this nothing was done. Main course arrived served in a 5 tier tiffin box out of this we ate the rice and 2 bits of chicken ordered desert a flat overcooked chocolate fondant arrived ☹️ wanted to leave quickly Bill was nearly £70 went straight to reception to complain restaurant manager arrived after some discussion he agreed to refund half our bill. Such a shame as everything else was lovely. Fantastic massage in the spa. All staff wearing masks clear one way systems plenty hand sanitizer around hotel. Would return as overall enjoyable stay .

Many thanks for sharing your feedback on your stay 1881celt. We are sorry to learn of your disappointment with your dining experience at Tiffin although we note that you mentioned this to the team at the time and received a discount from your bill. It was, however, great to hear that you did enjoy your stay overall and would return. We hope that it won't be too long before you visit us again.

Where do I begin! Room not ready on arrival, even though we arrived at allocated time. First night meal at The Terrace we had to ask 4 times for water, the food was awful - very expensive I got what tasted like a shop bought chicken Kiev and my nephew had a pizza which was 90% dough and no topping except someone clearly opened a tin of tuna and threw it on. We were told to leave at closing 3 times within a minute by very rude staff. Breakfast was a shambles queuing even when we had a booking. The man serving hot food laughably aggressive and when we by mistake ordered 2 pots of coffee instead of 1 tea and 1 coffee instead of replacing it the waitress snapped “well that’s two coffees” and walked off. The Saturday night despite having a booking at The Tiffin for 7pm we will told no booking until we produced our confirmation then they told us to arrive at 6:15pm to “fit us in” the place was empty and we were told the table was ours all night !? This was also my birthday so the pre drinks were rushed for no reason at all.
Everything on site is very expensive - you honestly charge adults to accompany their own children into the Adventure Glen ?? My cousin cancelled one booking of swimming to have all her bookings cancelled by mistake!
Someone was in my room one night as when I came back the toilet seat was up ! Check out was 11am and from 10am we were being rushed out of our rooms by staff wanting to clean they happily just kept walking in on us !
Only saving grace Murray Park lovely staff (Shannon in particular who booked us breakfast there after we explained the distaster of the Hydro breakfast)
I will not be back and will warn everyone about this place!

We booked an executive room pre lockdown as a special treat as we don’t normally pay £155 per night for accommodation so we’re really looking forward to our stay. It was moved from June to July due to lockdown restrictions.
The receptionist who booked us in was very pleasant and welcoming however when we arrived in our room it was not what we had originally booked. We should have had a double and single bed but given the recent situation we decided to make do. Then we discovered there was no tea tray nor toiletries. We had paid extra for little things like toiletries, hot chocolate, fudge, tablet and bottled water. When I asked at reception the lady this time simply said we are not allowed to put things in the room now so I explained I didn’t have any shampoo or shower gel as was expecting them in my room So she gave me a disposable cup with tea/coffee and a man handed some toiletries into my room. You now have to ask at reception every time you want a coffee. I was also told I would need to buy bottled water at the bar even though I had paid extra to have it in my room. I don’t understand how infection is spread of these things are in your room if you are being given them in reception anyway.
The hotel itself was looking a bit tired, our room hadn’t been dusted and there was a can of lager in the mini fridge from a previous guest. Food was ok but nothing special like previous reports suggest. Our second night we went for burgers, I ordered a Cajun chicken burger but when the waiter brought it I said it was a beef burger. The waiter assured me it was a chicken burger so I cut it and yes it was a beef burger. It had taken so long to get the burger that I asked for some garlic mayo so I could try eat the beef burger as I don’t normally eat them. Not once was I offered a replacement and then they tried to charge me the dearer price of the beef burger.
Breakfast was nice however I had to ask for bowls for cereal and the cups on our table were cracked and dirty.
The hotel grounds are amazing and there are some great walks however not worth the extra we paid.
When I was leaving I heard people reporting their concerns to management similar to my concerns so I am not alone in my disappointment with the hotel.
I have raised my many concerns with the hotel management via email and was offered a 10% discount off my next stay however I didn’t enjoy my stay anymore than I enjoy my stays in a travelodge hotel so would rather pay £30-80 a night at a travelodge where staff deal with your concerns straight away than get £15 off a £155 at Crieff hydro.

Upon arrival we were asked to pay £50 which is very mis-leading as they said it would be paid straight back, it was to cover if there were damages to room. I checked their terms and conditions online which states there is a 50 pound charge each day per stay, this will cover activities and food, it takes a few days to return to your account, so basically your better off eating with them which is quite a scam.
A bill was slid under the door the next morning. We were on a relaxing stay away to get away from Bill's being put through our door! What made this worse, we were incorrectly billed they tried to charge 25 pound for spa which was already pre-paid, we spoke with reception to have this removed, no apology for inconvenience, she removed it then asked if we wanted to settle the rest of the bill 🤦♀️
The evening before we were told a table for 2 would be an hour and a half wait for both restaurants (brasserie and piccolo) which was not so great.
On a positive the treatment was marvellous and the therapist was warming and lovely, the food was really nice in the restaurant and the breakfast, good selection for vegetarian/vegan.
Would we return...indefinitely not, it's not been the stress free overnight we had hoped for.

Many thanks for writing your review, 967haylep! We appreciate all types of feedback because they help us to improve our service. I am sorry we weren't on spot this time. You touched on several different aspects which seem to have disappointed you, such as the fact you were asked to pay £50 upon arrival. This corresponds to the pre-authorisation amount which is set aside in your bank account and is not taken by us although it will affect the available balance of your account. Although no refund is therefore due, the amount held in the pre-authorisation should automatically have been released at checkout. As we have no way of knowing when they are released although we usually expect this to take between three to five (+) working days depending upon the bank’s processing time. This also allows our guests the freedom of charging items back to their rooms as mentioned in our pre-arrival correspondence. It is lovely to note that you thought the treatment was marvellous and the therapist lovely. You also appreciated the food in the restaurant, especially because of its good selection for vegetarian/vegan guests. We do hope you will reconsider and we will get another chance to make your stay more enjoyable next time if you have a change of heart.

This was our fifth visit to the hydro but it is the first time that we have left feeling that we have not received value for money. It is a very expensive holiday (we had three children with us) and we always make very good use of the facilities at Action Glen and especially the stables. This year we felt things were just not up to the same high standard.
Breakfast was ok for the first few days. It wasn't the varied menu described on the app and there was a noticeable improvement towards the weekend- when the occupancy rate was a great deal higher.
We only ate in the Terrace twice. On our first night we both ordered pasta and it was very bland, as was the risotto on another night. A staff member was told but he just smiled! The kids menus are fine but with little variety or fresh produce. We ended up eating most nights in the Hub as the food had much more flavour but we certainly didn't expect to be eating burgers for most of our stay. We really missed the quality of the Miekle and the variety of local produce. Even the former restaurant the Brasserie had local produce on the menu for specials but that all seems to have vanished now and the food just felt like nothing special.
We had problems with the lack of heating in our room and while it did take a few days to sort, staff were helpful. We also had an issue with the thermostat and that required a plumber to come out.
I had raised my concerns with the hotel via email since we returned home. I am very aware that with covid things were different but that cannot be used as an excuse. As returning guests we don't feel that staff were particularly interested or concerned about our comments. It does seem the the Hydro is trying to entice new guests but perhaps at the price of returning ones.
Our children always ask to go to the Hydro because of the activities available but sadly I think that shall be our last visit.
