Positives...Stunning unrestricted views across the harbour. Centre of Stromness. Banks, ferry, bus station etc. all within 5 minutes walk. Large sitting room/kitchen with free wifi. 2 single beds within the 2 bedrooms. Beds were comfortable. Portable bed available as well. Large quantities of towels etc. and a large bathroom with shower, small bath. A washing machine and tumble drier also...

We stayed in the Harbourlee House. It is well-equipped, with a very good kitchen and also the use of washing and drying machines. Our room had an amazing view over the bay, and a private bathroom. Great value for money, and you could not ask for a better location.

We stayed in their Harbourlee Apartments. This was an excellent stay with fantastic facilities for budget travellers right in the heart of Stromness. The owner was lovely too. Slightly dated decor but had free WiFi.

We arrived in Orkney without having booked any accommodation. My friends had recalled staying here on a previous trip 10 years ago. We called up and we were asked to come down once our ferry had docked. We had a friendly greeting from the owner who walked us down to a private cottage overlooking the harbour. Inside was everything we...

Loved this little hostel. Mrs Brown's is very handy to everything in Stromness. The rooms and common areas are very clean and the mattresses are thick and comfy. The full kitchen, dining, lounge area is perfect for self catering. There's even a washing machine and ingenious hanging lines over the heating. All free for guests. At around £18 a night...

Sylvia made this stay enjoyable. She was so positive, helpful, informative and eager for us to get the most out of the Orkneys. It felt we had our own tour guide. Thank you. The rooms are basic as you would expect of a hostel. But theyre clean, warm and meet the needs. Location is perfect, right in the centre, next...

I've been coming to Brown's hostel in Winter for many years and have always had a lovely stay. It's beautifully clean, warm and cosy with lovely comfortable beds and hot water bottles - this makes all the difference in Orkney in December! Recently several of the rooms have been upgraded to include their own basins and the downstairs toilet and...

My first days in Stromness I stayed at the campsite. As it was cold and windy, I was so happy that the Browns could host me for 3 nights. It's a lovely and cosy hostel, I felt like staying at my grandma's. Small dorms are always a plus! Here the maximum was 4 people, so I had a great nights...

Sylvia the owner is lovely and very helpful. Yes the kitchen utensils might not match and there'll likely be a bit of a scrum for the hob if you're cooking but both the main hostel and Habourlee House are clean, warm and comfortable, and just a stones throw from the ferry terminal.

I have to say that first impressions mean nothing here. Staying here was like staying at my grans everything is a bit odd, nothing matches there are nick nacks everywhere the kitchen is large and clean but it is cosy. OK so the shower was held together with duck tape and the room tiny but the bed was so comfy...
