This was a very last-minute thing only booked last week and I had a lovely stay. The kitchen in particular was fantastic because eating out is relatively expensive and it all adds up. It's a five-minute walk to the ferry, which is especially handy when you're on the 6.30am to Scrabster (groan!). It's close to a small shop and not...

I stayed at the hostel for three weeks while volunteering on the Ness of Brodgar excavation. Mrs Brown is friendly and lives just over the hostel so is around if you need things. The kitchen is well equipped and those complaining about things not matching should stay in some of the hostels I have been in with nothing in the...

I was visiting a friend in Stromness and it was a busy weekend so i managed to get a room here. I had a very nice single room and found the facilities very good. I had a good shower and slept well. I thought the value was excellent and overall the cosy place was well appointed.

It's a short walk from the ferry and bus. I'd recommend staying here and will definitely book another stay here when I return to orkney. I fell in love...

This self catered house is on stromness main street with the rear of the house overlooking the harbour. Sylvia is welcoming and organised. We stayed in the house rather than the hostel as we wanted a double room with a bathroom. There are 4 rooms and a shared well equipped kitchen and livjng room. Its a real home from home...

Helpful, warm and welcoming greeting from the owner with flexibility over arrival time. Spotlessly clean, excellent facilities, every practical thing thought of, but a much higher standard than any other hostel we have stayed in. Perfect location in Stromness with just a few minutes walk to the ferry. Will definitely stay again. Thank you.

Stayed for one night before catching ferry to Scrabster. Nice and friendly owner, and place is warm, cosy and recently refurbished. Good value for money and in the centre of town near the ferry for those with onward travel plans

I stayed here for five nights and have nothing but good things to say about it. Sylvia is friendly, professional and also just lets you get on with it. There are no ridiculous rules and one is given a key and allowed to come and go as is practicable. It is a small hostel with I think seven rooms and...

Situated in the heart of Stromness Browns is close to everything; shops, ferries and buses. Sylvia couldn't be more accommodating and will help with ideas for places to visit. The rooms, I stayed on two separate occasions, were clean (as were the other facilities) and the beds were comfy. I found the hostel to be quiet, even though it was...
