Stayed here with family over Easter weekend to celebrate my nephews 21st. Weather glorious - spent all Saturday outside at the lovely outdoor table settings. We had a fabulous room upstairs which we shared with our 2 youngest children (they had a sofa bed) The room was large with a huge window / door facing out to the sea. Balcony...

This is my sixth visit to the Kildonan hotel. It has been far too long since the last stay - 5 years - and I have missed it as I think it on the most beautiful spot on the planet. I wasn't disappointed. While any room I've stayed in has een good, there is an amazing room with a balcony...

Nice room with a great view across the sea to the Mull of Kintyre . The quiet was outstanding and the seals basking on the rocks gave the beach an added interest. Staff, mostly European , very pleasant and helpful , despite working long hours. Our dog ( he loved the under floor room heating) was allowed into the Bistro...

We booked this hotel as an “anniversary treat” on a voucher for four nights at what we thought was a reasonable price. The dogs are taken at £5 per dog per night as an extra. We upgraded the room at a cost of £20 per night and was told that we would have a “suite” with a patio door and...

The hotel rooms were comfortable. Staff were helpful and accommodating. There was a great folk music session in the bar downstairs. Breakfasts were massive, huge helpings. We stayed for two nights 28 Feb and 1 March 2015. The stay was for my wife's birthday and the hotel kindly arranged for flowers in the room upon our arrival. We stayed in one of the suites on the first floor which has amazing views looking over the sea. When we stayed there was a bad storm however the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Unwind and forget your troubles at our small, family run hotel. Built in the 17th Century, it is one of the 7th oldest licensed Inns in Scotland and historically a destination that families have aspired to visit for well over 100 years. Perched on the southern-most tip of Arran with panoramic views to die for, the hotel is located right on the seafront, the beach literally stone's throw away. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde we are right in the middle of a unique eco-system with a plethora of wildlife. We have seals basking daily on the rock jetties off-shore, otters feeding and playing on the rocks and gannets diving non-stop through the day. We are also fortunate to have occasional basking sharks and dolphins visiting in the summer months and an array of birds-of-prey including eagles, peregrines, buzzards and more... Pladda Island sits directly across the sound with its recognisable lighthouse and ever changing silhouette playing host to a large colony of seagulls and gannets. And of course the famous Ailsa Craig, 'Paddy's Milestone', a bird sanctuary now but is renowned for its granite which is still used for curling stones today. The interior is fully refurbished, still maintaining some the quaint characteristics of old, while the tasteful addition of extended bistro and lounge area with floor to ceiling windows allow residents and diners to gaze for miles over a cup of tea, breakfast or an evening meal. ... more   less
