We had a wedding reception to attend in Wareham and wanted to stay somewhere within walking distance of the wedding venue. The Red Lion came up in my search and the photos of the rooms on their website looking appealing. I appreciate this is an old building but wish I had been advised of the 5 degrees slant of the...

Stayed here with my son as it was perfectly placed to visit both Monkey World and The Tank Museum. The staff are first rate, nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are spotless and comfortable as is the bar and dining area. Enjoyed the courtyard as evenings were warm and the location was a short stroll to the river, boat...

sadly really dissappointing stay due to very simple bad manners and poor standards. met by a young waitress who was just simply rude unhelpful and did not have a morsel of customer service about her. unable to book in although being assured on the call this would be possible and her stating it staes would try !. within 2 minutes...

Genuine review with honest opinion. Where to start? Arrived and not unreasonably expecting better than we received. Manager/owner the rudest we've ever met. No eye contact, dismissive, made NO attempt whatsoever to even say hi! Dreadful customer service. Get yourself on a customer service course or consider career change. Made to feel unwelcome despite being laying guests. A busy poor...

We generally do not respond to reviews as believe they are subjective and everyone has the right to their own opinion, except when they are unfair, untrue, factually incorrect and to be honest, hurtful. These 'ladies' had requested an early check in. The car parking was completely empty when they arrived. Demands were made that they wanted the only space...

I agree with much of what a previous reviewer said. Beds are comfortable and breakfast excellent. Food in the evening also good however ours was not a 4 star experience. The furniture in our room had seen many better days and the bathroom had no heating at all. The staff were not particularly helpful and requests for cups of tea...

We travelled here as a base for a visit to the Swanage Railway. We arrived at 9.30am on the first day and, even though we were unable to check in at that time, they were quite happy to allow us to park the car and gave us the telephone numbers for Taxis in the area. We checked in much later...

We recently stayed at The Red Lion Hotel/Inn (?) a couple of weeks back. Every year, we go away (as four couples) and choose a different location for the stay. This year we picked this establishment, and my review represents the views of all 8 of us. As ever, I will do my best to be objective rather than subjective,...

I love staying at this place. It is always immaculately clean, the staff are always friendly and the food is out of this world. Many people complain about the town hall clock but I find that enchanting. You get used to it and it doesn't keep you awake at all. The only negative is the lack of parking. there are...

We stayed here for 2 nights earlier this year and we all enjoyed ourselves, the bar and service was exceptional and the evening meals are very good but the breakfasts are out of this world, both of our rooms were well presented and our room on the top floor even had its own " all night alarm clock " courtesy of...

Booked 2 nights away following exhausting house move to unwind and relax - chose the exact location! Double room was clean and tidy - would benefit from abit of attention to bring it right up to scratch. Hotel is right on the main street running through Wareham so expect some noise - not sure how the "boy racers" get away...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Red Lion, after years of neglect, has undergone a refurbishment totaling around half a million pounds. The Red Lion now boasts 8 individually designed bedrooms, all of which are en-suite and some are suites. We have a formal restaurant, a relaxed snug dining area and comfortable bar with a great selection of lagers, ales, wines, premium spirits and champagnes. We are situated on the town cross in the centre of Wareham, the gateway to the Jurassic coast. Wareham is beautifully placed to tour the South coast. NB Please disregard any comments pre-July 2011 as they relate to previous operators. ... more   less
