Many years ago, after a walk around Lydford Gorge, I popped into this pub for a welcoming pint. We needed a overnight stop-over on our way to Cornwall and I remembered this quaint hostelry and booked in. I am so glad I remembered this pub. We arrived early, giving us time for a few drinks in their wonderful garden. A...

Just returned from a holiday in the area and had a few meals here. All were great, generous portions and the staff were really good. We particularly have to say that Mo is an absolute asset to the Inn and a great character!

Just make your booking, you won't be disappointed. Staff are very friendly and helpful (even when we left my wife's coat behind they've sent it on). Food is great, accommodation complete and good value for money. As for location well, as I say, just book and enjoy !!

We were visiting Lydford to explore the Castles and the Church, and had no idea about this charming Inn. It looked so picturesque that we decided to see if the interior was as good as the exterior - it was! The Tripadvisor Certificates in the porch said it all and our lunch was a real treat. Will definitely be returning...

We arrived at the Castle Inn just after 3.00 pm on a wonderful Sunday afternoon having spent several hours in Lydford Gorge. We were 4 hungry adults so we asked about food, the chef was just going off duty having finished his stint but offered to stay on for one more order. We were grateful for his generosity and lunch,...

We have been to this pub quite a few times over the last 20 odd years, the present owners are friendly and helpful, dogs are welcome children are not allowed in the main bar area only in the restaurant part (as are the dogs). The garden is very nice in the warm weather too. Looking forward to visiting next week...

…this lovely, old, traditional English pub. We popped in today, after hiking through Lydford Gorge for a quick bit of "refreshment". We received a lovely warm welcome from behind the bar - Mo was a brilliant hostess and funny, friendly company – thank you so much Mo! Locals were friendly too, as were some passing, regular visitors to Lydford and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Castle Inn is a traditional 16th-century inn situated in Lydford, on the Western slopes of Dartmoor National Park. Built in 1550, its plain pink exterior offers no clues as to what awaits you inside. It oozes with character from every nook and cranny. The lamp-lit bar with low, bowed ceilings, many curios, slate floors and an open fire, the lovely snug with high backed settles and the charming restaurant with beamed ceiling. There is a pretty garden to the back of the inn with more seating and views of the castle. Whether you fancy a pint of Tribute and a chat with the locals, a quick bite to eat or a full meal, the the Castle Inn offers wonderful food and drink in comfortable and relaxing surroundings. Children are very welcome as are dogs on leads. ... more   less
