The feeling of community at La Mariposa and the sense that you are really supporting a great project in Nicaragua cannot be matched. The Spanish classes were great but the what is really amazing are all the other projects that they have going on (planting...More
La Mariposa is a breath of fresh air. Not only is it a wonderful place to learn Spanish, as you get 1 on 1 attention in a beautiful setting with friendly teachers, it is a place that yearns to help all living things. From planting...More

La Mariposa is an experience unlike one I have ever had. My friend and I chose the homestay option. Our family was so wonderful, and even though they spoke very little English, and we spoke very little Spanish, we felt right at home. Be prepared,...More

This is Paulette, the director of La Mariposa. It is important to be clear what we are talking about! Chagas does not exist here nor has there been a case of malaria for 15 years. La Concha, population over 50,000 has had 6 confirmed cases of Zika, they are all now fully recovered. Rabies has not been seen here in many years (I have lived here 12 years and never heard of a case) and there is a government program to vaccinate all dogs free of charge. Dengue is more of an issue, there are occasional cases here so important to protect from mosquitoes. I hope some of the many families who have stayed here and loved it reply to you as well!!
