The hotel is in a nice location in the city of Catarina about 2 blocks from the famous Catarina Mirador. The first impression of the hotel is nice, the first floor is very clean, has an indoor central patio. However, the rooms smell musty and we saw several rooms and they all smelled horrible. The bathroom always smelled of sewage,... More

I stayed in this hotel for a week. The location is fabulous. The food was delicious. The staff was very kind. I highly recommend this place. It is very well located. It also has lots of history. Very close to everything.

First, the positive: the place was clean, and the staff tried very hard to be helpful. The problem is, they had little to work with. No one spoke English. We couldn't find out the phone number of the hotel before leaving the states. The water was off most of the time. It was on for 5 minutes, then off. We... More

They had to turn on the water for us. Not much pressure and so the shower was really a stream of dripping water, cold. I am used to travel in Nicaragua so no hot water is OK unless you claim to have hot water. Staff was indifferent. Breakfast was poor but edible. Had to wait an hour for dinner as... More

If I could give minuses to this hotel, I would. I saw in previous reviews there were problems with courtesy and services expected for a Nicaraguan hotel in the price range of $50/night, considered high-end for a small town, but I ignored them and booked anyway. It is not kept up as it could be. Even so, the potential to... More

I just stayed in this lovely place. It is located right in front of the city plaza. It is 4 blocks from the Mirador de Catarina. It has a nice bar and a restaurant that has delicious food. Th staff was very friendly and helpful. My room was very good, with a very comfortable bed, a big bathroom. The linens... More

I stayed in this hotel several months ago, and decided to come back. They have new staff. The place is obviously the best in Masaya. The climate cannot be better. The hotel is gorgeous. The rooms are very comfortable. The suites even have a jacuzzi. All the hotel has wi fi included within the rate. The staff is extremely friendly... More

Although the review says Masaya, Nicaragua, this review is for the Casa Catarina in Catarina, Nicaragua. Catrina is a small village (5600 people) overlooking the Laguna de Apoya and Granada is to the southeast. The Lonely Planet (2009) said that the cost was $50-60 (U.S.). We were quoted $110 (U.S.) at the reception desk. Too much! After haggling, the price... More

We stayed here on Xmas Eve - arrived at 7pm - we were the only people in the hotel. Staff were friendly enough (we have only rudimentary spanish) but anxious to get away.
