Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Doomadgee Guest House is a good little place to stay.

Garry the manager is a great bloke and will always go out of his way to help you out.

Being in the Gulf, all rooms are air-conditioned and although the guest house is essentially dongas, they rooms stay very cool.

Being a guest house, your room will contain only a bed, desk and shelves and the bathrooms are shared. There are a couple of en suite rooms though and they are worth booking. The communal bathrooms are clean but when you are in such a hot and humid town it's nice to not have to go outside whenever you need a shower or to use the toilet.

There are two kitchen and TV areas that are also communal and are well stocked with all the equipment you need to cook and eat your meals as well as two big fridges and freezers to store your food.

Although most of the guests are workers from Mount Isa and Cairns who are in Doomadgee for work, it is still a good place to stop for the night to break up your drive if you are travelling from Qld to the NT.

The only downside is the internet and phone service which is pretty bad in Doomadgee anyway, but particularly worse in the area of town that the guest house is located. Whilst it is not guest house's fault, it is something to be aware of.

Would still recommend the guest house as a place to stay though.

Recently invited to an event in Doomadgee and after an eventful drive out found Gary waiting outside to welcome us in. The rooms are clean and serviceable and all amenities are provided. The real asset of the guest house is Gary, what an angel, nothing was too much trouble and after a stressful trip and the car needing some attention before we could return to the Isa, he was just what the doctor ordered. Thanks Gary and thankyou Dave for your help on your day off.

This is a great little rest spot. It's donga living but it is comfortable the large common area is well resourced and comfortable. The board walk in the accommodation area keeps you up out of the dust. Gary, who runs the place is friendly and helpful

Garry, who runs the place was very courteous and helpful, and a good cook. Grilled barramundi for dinner, delicious! The room was clean and bug free.

It is the kind of town, so far off the beaten track, if it wasn't for work there is no reason to be there. I've been to Doomadgee before and staying in government housing, but the Guest House is the superior option.

Good accommodation considering the remoteness of the location. Evening meal was good. Breakfast was "Help Yourself". The choice was limited but what was there was good. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall 4 out of 5
