We recently spent 2 mid week nights at Grays Inn, in the Semillon Room. Beautiful room with very comfortable bed, old fireplace, big armchairs and direct access to the verandah, which overlooks the lovely Wollombi village. Our host, Julie was most hospitable. Next door is the highly recommended and very friendly Wollombi General Store, which serves delicious breakfast/lunch/ afternoon teas. The Wollombi Kitchen and the famous Wollombi Tavern are also recommended.

Greys guest house is a BEAUTIFUL old building right in the middle of the main street of Wollombi. It is a fabulous place to stay in relation to a quick walk to the lovely cafe across the road ( get a home made pizza , trust me ) and the highly entertaining pub at the end of the street.any vineyards are just a short 20-30 minute drive away. There are 4 upstairs room and a gorgeous little verandah to sit on and people watch as u sip a wine and look at the street below. Take a moment to appreciate the pick mark in the old sandstone of the building , created by convicts . Apparently this building used to be haunted but the owners had the building ' cleansed '. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms , wine tasting down stairs , and the bathrooms are modern and renovated. All rooms are beautifully decorated and the main guest room has a fireplace ! Our room had a bit of a funny smell from the bathroom , but I will put that down to plumbing in an old building , it really didn't take away from the loveliness of the overall stay. If u like boutique and rustic stay here ! Also eat at the Italian restaurant down stairs ! AMAZING !!!

We stayed in the verdelho room which was a comfortable and quaint room. Clean with tv, full length mirror and bar fridge. There was limited hanging space, which was over the fridge, but this wasn't really an issue for us as we were just staying for two nights to attend a wedding. I would have rated the room 4/5 but there was no hot water for a shower either morning or night...made it a little chilly for winter...and a little inconvenient when getting ready for a wedding!

I was looking for a comfortable two night escape. I got horrendous mosquitos, even with every window shut and toxic bug spray . I didn’t get a wine tasting as advertised as the cellar door was shut both days I was there, I phoned before booking and this was not mentioned. I checked if the rather nice looking cafe over the road would be open, told it would be, no it wasn’t. No hot water after a truely uncomfortable night with a 6am wake up of a truck parked in the street running for an hour. I have read reviews saying how attentive the host are. Well if the lady we saw on our last morning was one of them her oh your going, shutting the door in our faces did not strike me as attentive. Sort out the missies, actually supply what us advertised and maybe check in on your guests and this might be worth a second try but not sure I would risk it. I did try to contact the establishment after my stay but no response.

My wife & I have just had a 1 night stay at Grays Inn which is a 19th century Georgian building in the centre of Wollombi Village. The accomodation rooms are upstairs on level 1 which share the balcony that overlooks Wollombi Village, downstairs on the ground level is a restaurant & wine tasting is available at their Cellar Door. At the rear of the Inn you can spend time in the garden. We found our room was very comfortable & the complimentary bottle of red wine waiting for us in the room was a bonus.

Stayed for 2 nights in Semillon room which is upstairs with the 2 other guest rooms. Room was a reasonable size, plenty of hot water, comfortable bed. Room had been recently renovated but done on the cheap. Ill fitting doors, draughty. Other 2 rooms occupied by family members. The first negative factor about our stay was the rooms were overpriced for what they were plus we had to pay full amount up front which is most unusual in Covid times. The second thing was the unfriendly attitude of the hostess which which ensured we cannot recommend Grays Inn. Panino restaurant attached to Grays Inn was sensational. Had breakfast twice at Myrtle and Stone across the road which was excellent both times.

Well if you travel 900km and take a look at your Shiraz room which you have paid top dollar for. The room is so small, no clothes hanging as taken up by coffee making and microwave. No air conditioner working, advertising parking if you can get a spot across the road. Forgot the bed is uncomfortable. The stairs are a problem for older people. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The area is lovely. The complimentary bottle of wine dulled the pain.

6 of us adults (and 2 babies) rented out all 3 rooms and had a great time. The building has so much character, the wine down in the cellar door is terrific and the food from the restaurant downstairs is superb.

Stayed at Gray's Inn on the 'main drag' of Wollombi, on first sight the reception was a bit shocking with a desk made of rusty galvanize and no one in attendance. But I guess its the rustic vibe. Next door/down stairs was a fancy Italian restaurant and deli called 'Panino' so we checked there and found the woman of the house having dinner with friends. She attended to us promptly and we paid up front in cash (no electronic payments here) nice and old fashioned - she took our booking on faith by email (they have a website), we paid no deposit and then paid up front in cash on arrival, as it should be! (Everywhere else I checked was 50% of total stay deposit on booking, cheek).

She gave us the best room and it was gorgeous, heritage style complete with Vogue mirror from 1919, called Mrs Stevenson's room (mentions room names on the web site but not on the actual doors themselves). She also left tonnes of towels and tea & coffee etc. which was brilliant as it was an unmanned guest house and we were not bothered again all weekend by breakfast time, cleaner time or check out time, really excellent in my book.

Panino was run by a real Italian man who told he felt sorry for us when we broke the news we were vegetarian's but he rose to the occasion and gave us lovely antipasto followed by yummy linguine and had an excellent local wine list and really good Limoncello.

Later we found out in the Tavern that our room was haunted! I think it was a bit because we didn't sleep well all weekend (and it was very hot weather) but no harm came to us anyway so must have been a good ghost!

Would definately stay again and wish more guest houses were like this.

We celebrated my wife's 40th birthday at the picturesque old village of Wollombi. The distance from Sydney is just perfect; hour and a half through lovely countryside and there! All rooms are lovely nice room for perfect escape from city. The room came with complimentary bottle of Noyce Brothers fantastic shiraz.

We only had one night because of the lack of babysitters, but the day on coutryside was all we needed. Just chilax at the Grays verandah and have a couple beers at the town tavern..well a few actually with good ol' jukebox! Back to Grays and celebration champagnes before the dinner.

Dinner downstair at Panino restaurant was just perfect. The chef/owner Bruno Giagu is really amazing chef.. getting hungry now hahaa...

Will be there again. Definately!! This just became our little getaway from hectic city!
