Detailed Reviews
Absolutely fantastic. This place is owned by a lovely couple Jane and Mike who look after you so well. The main guest house is amazing made from old convict stones from Sydney and windows and timber floors from old buildings around Sydney. It sits up on the hill and looks out over the valley. All 5 bedrooms beautifully done all with ensuites. Sitting areas just filled with charm. There is also an old cottage and Billy’s Barn also on the block. The Barn is unique originally an old timber farm shed converted into accommodation keeping all its character and furnished with amazing old pieces. Set in Wollombi itself walking distance to the local pub, cafes and restaurants this place is an absolute must stay at. Hour and a half out of Sydney a great get away. Definitely a place to return to.

Loved our extended weekend in the historic refurbished Barn at Capers. Jane and Mike could not have been more helpful, especially Mike is a goldmine of information if you are keen to do some bushwalking or scenic drives. Hard to believe the Disneyland Hunter Valley winery-scape is just a few km to the north.
After a hard days' walking or driving
the Barn very pleasant of a late afternoon, just for reading and relaxing on the garden terrace over looking your car, which oddly enough was ok in our case!Maybe a fountain or green lawn feature by that garden terrace would enhance the effect? BBQ and simple camp kitchen with large fridge was perfect, with easy walk into town. Everything worked and spiral stairs to comfy, cosy upstairs bedroom was a bit of fun and not too vertiginous.
Satellite TV channels gave us some Northern Territory commercial channel reception, a cultural adventure given NT style national news and local adverts, like"travelling" to exotic places without leaving NSW!
Jane provided great local restaurant advice and even made a necessary advance booking for dinner at Paninos 5 minutes walk away, which was excellent. Highly recommended bush retreat without having to actually retreat to the bush!

What a special anniversary weekend, we stayed in the quirky Boiling Billy barn which was a delight. Super clean and comfortable with everything you could possibly need. The gardens were really beautiful and the pool lovely. The hosts could not have been more helpful, they organised restaurant bookings, supplied maps and suggested walks etc, a really nice couple very warm & welcoming, can’t wait to go back!

Along with a small group we stayed at the Guesthouse for a week. It exceeded expectations and was simply wonderful. Not only are the rooms and common areas luxurious, but the owners Jane and Michael were gracious hosts and Jane is a wonderful cook. If you are going to the Wollombi/Broke area the Guesthouse or Cottage are highly recommended.

+1
We chose Capers Guesthouse and the on-site Barn for 11 guests for a special birthday weekend. Planning the event with Jane was easy from the first contact, through to the weekend itself. She was very helpful in bringing other threads together such as village restaurant and wine tasting bookings. The accommodation is wonderful. So well laid out, large enquire rooms, with comfy, but firm beds. Jane is a wonderful cook as well- breakfasts are delicious and set you up for the while day. We chose a birthday dinner in with Jane and Michael and it was fantastic. They could not have been more helpful the whole weekend. The Barn was great too. We will be back. Thanks Jane and Michael.

With over 30 years experience in international deluxe hotels. Etc., this “home” sure sits with the best of them - globally. A lovely welcome with afternoon tea and homemade cakes, a lovely breakfast, beautifully presented, excellent and most professional hosts.
The decor in the public areas and the bedrooms are of a superior quality and no expense has been spared.
Would we return - yes, within a heartbeat.
Thank you Jane and Michael, for allowing us to share your lovely home.

We have just had the most wonderful weekend at this delightful Guesthouse with 10 of our close friends. The house is a superb stone building full of antiques, huge sun drenched verandahs and surrounded with magnificent gardens. There are 5 huge guests rooms all with large bathrooms and individually decorated. Jane is a cordon Bleu chef and Mike has a keen interest in the history of the area and will take you on breath-taking local walks.

We booked Capers Cottage for a family wedding on Booking.com. Two months after booking we received an email stating the property was unavailable as the neighbours house had burned down and they were staying in the cottage. We were asked to cancel our booking and were given an alternate, less satisfactory suggestion.
The next day we found we had been lied to. The property was listed for $500 more than our booking. There was no fire, just a big lie. The owner confirmed as much via email.

Before I mention the property the review by Catherine C's review 4 Jan is incorrect. We met the couple whose house had burned down and they are being housed in the cottage until they can sort out accommodation for themselves. I was also shown photos of the fire by one of the owners.
The guest house is a beautiful property, it is like a country manor house, the views are amazing and having a swimming pool is a bonus.
Many thanks to Jane, Michael and of course Wally.
