Mystwood Retreat does not disappoint! Cute little wooden cabins in amongst the bush. No reception and a private spa put back make it an amazing place to relax and unwind. The dirt road in is a bit bumpy but you are greeted with a picture perfect scene of trees, hills, and in the morning, a field of mist. We were provided with a brekky hamper of eggs, bacon and freshly baked bread and the owner Simon stopped to greet us quickly as he was in the middle of photographing a wedding. Simon and his wife Lieneka are just beautiful people, very friendly and welcoming. It was a shame we had to go home, but our short stay there was lovely.

My wife & I have just had a 1 night stay at Mystwood Retreats that we thoroughly enjoyed. The cabins are great with everything you need for your stay, each of the 5 cabins have a log fire heater in the loungeroom with logs supplied & a hot tub / spa outside the back door. The kitchen was fully equipped with bacon, eggs, jams, milk & you are supplied with a loaf of bread that is baked on site. We did see a wombat not far from our cabin & there were a number of kangaroos on the other side of the fence. Mystwood Retreats is also a venue destination for functions which is in a bush setting. The stay there is so quiet & peaceful under a full sky of stars. Mystwood Retreats is only a 5 min drive to the historic Wollombi Village. We are definitely going to stay there again in the future.

The little town of Wollombi is a real surprise and quite popular! We had a lovely time relaxing at Mystwood, the cabins are rustic and have everything you need. The lovely touches are home baked bread (it was delicious), wine in the fridge, carton of milk (not long life) and the bed was super comfortable. The cabin is clean and spotless, the utensils are plentiful. The breakfast pack and dinner bbq pack was beautiful and plenty of it. We loved the spa and the relaxing time we had at Mystwood. We would come back in a heartbeat. The beautiful brown dog who visited us every day and night made our day! The hosts are lovely and really make you feel welcome. Cannot recommend highly enough.

If you want to get away from it all, this is the perfect place. Quiet, back to nature and only 5 cabins. All equipped with kitchenette, outdoor spa at 39 degrees, and a log fire. We felt like we were the only couple there. We loved it and will return.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. So much to offer, starting with our own self contained cabin, complete with our own spa in a private courtyard. The property has plenty to offer including a nice dam which you can swim in. Oh and don't forget to get yourself a massage in your room

We chose to stay at Mystwood for a romantic getaway for our first wedding anniversary. We wanted our time away to be really special and as advertised on your website but unfortunately this was not our experience.

1. We tried to order food and got a response of laughter on Friday night and told the kitchen was closed… I was a bit taken aback because I’d called about this before we arrived and you advertise about having a Thai chef on site.
2. As we hadn’t had dinner we tried to order a bbq pack instead and had the response of ‘I guess I can put one together, it will be at least 30 minutes’ – I felt like I should apologise. I was itching to get into the hot tub but had to wait..
3. We waited for the BBQ pack on what should have been the ' deep rich leather lounges'... It was a vinyl lounge that was tiny and very uncomfortable. It wasn’t a lounge for couples to cuddle up.
4. When our BBQ pack arrived we were told our BBQ was broken due to 10 year old kids who had just stayed and caused a whole heap of chaos in our cabin.
5. After using the hot tub I was covered in a sandy type dirt, didn’t use it again as I was left wondering the last time it was cleaned and really took away the romantic feel and the main attractions to stay with you
6. We had to chase up our bread for breakfast the next morning when it didn’t arrive. There was no choice of bread as you advertise? I really felt like sourdough and we were delivered brown bread
7. Breakfast was supposed to include natural muesli of which we received none?
8. Tried to order Thai again on Saturday night. Sent a few e-mails in the week before asking for a menu and how it worked and had to call in the end as I had no response. (This information would have been good for Friday night when it seemed unavailable?) When I called I was told that we could order anything we wanted. My husband tried to order Pad Thai and was told that we could only order a 3 course dinner for 2 and we would be surprised with the food and that they didn’t think they had any noodles for Pad Thai. We didn’t want that much food, just one dish. I wish we knew this before we arrived for our stay so we could have planned to bring something with us to cook on the (broken) BBQ.
9. We woke on Sunday morning (our actual anniversary day) and had breakfast. Having a cuddle back in bed around 11 when the phone rings and someone wants to come and fix our bbq? At that point I had enough so we left. Could the BBQ fixing really not have waited until we had checked out?

I wanted it to be really special and as have the things you promised in your advertising which is what we based our bookings off. The location and setting were amazing and I hope from my feedback you can fix the quality of your service so that other couples don’t have their special occasions ruined by things that can be easily fixed on your end.

Paying over 300 AUD a night we expected some semblance of hospitality. Instead we were berated when we divided up the cabins for a wedding without consulting the front desk, who are never available or present at the front desk. Wifi isn't available in your rooms, but TVs are so isn't as if they are doing it on purpose for "charm." Rooms weren't cleaned throughout our stay. By "breakfast included", they meant you can cook your own breakfast with the bacon, eggs and bread (which was fresh and delicious). Drinking water from the tap is not safe and our water cooler in the room was basically empty on arrival. Needed wifi one night to make a call, but nobody in the reception office was available to provide the password. Asked for a few more eggs for breakfast and was questioned as to why I really needed them. The property is beautiful, cabins are austere and I've had better service at a highway motel

There's a couple of things about Mystwood that really encapsulate you.

The first one is the town it sits in, Wollombi. A quaint, small, very small village in the heart of the Australian countryside. It has one ATM, one tavern (the atm is in the tavern) a couple of cafes, a restaurant and a general store and a few other bits and bobs. Anyway, its amazing in itself. You feel like you have finally seen a little piece of untouched Australia.

The second bit i loved about Mystwood is the total serenity. Its about 10mins away from Wollombi, as the crow flies probably only 5. You leave the main road and drive down a couple of dirt tracks, through fields, farms, cows and kangeroos into a little hotel retreat haven. First stop the lovely owners of Mystwood, welcoming, homely, motherly and full of advice of the land and the neighbouring town.

Then you panic...because you realise there's no phone signal or wifi. Some find this relaxing, i find it terrifying for atleast a day... Wollombi has signal dont worry.
The cabins are perfect for 2, a huge...and i mean huge bed, the spa in the back yard...and the best bit a kitchen stocked with all the things you need for a nice breakfast and a cup of tea (milk, eggs, bacon, coffee, bacon and bacon). The owner also brings you fresh bread every other day for no extra cost....incredible.
You go to sleep with the slightly overwhelming sound of crickets and you wake up to find kangaroos and potentially Stella the Groodle in or around your cabin. Amazing!

If you are unprepared like us you may find yourself a little low on food pretty early on, the Wollombi general store isn't particularly well stocked with fresh produce so unfortunately a trip to Cessnock might be in order. Cessnock is horrible. Dont go to Cessnock.

Instead here's a tip. Jump off the Pacific Highway a little early, and take the Tourist Route via Peats Ridge and upto Wollombi. Its beautiful... of course. But also theres a few farms, and markets/stores along the way that sell all the fresh produce you need. We didn't do this...and ended up in Cessnock TWICE. Don't go to Cessnock.

Take jigsaws, crosswords, books, lego...romantic apparatus and enjoy the peace and quiet. The owners are amazing. So lovely that you almost want to write them a Christmas card right now in January.

And if you happen to be in Wollombi on a public holiday theres a market. Its incredible. I bought a coffee table for $10...the real winner of the weekend.

We stayed here for 3 nights for a wedding and couldn't have enjoyed our stay more.
Stunning, very quiet location in close proximity to the quaint township of Wollombi which is full of great little cafes. The owners of Mystwood are a lovely family offering real country hospitality.
Cabins were spacious, comfortable, very warm and well equipped. Each cabin has its own heated spa and wood burning heater. The full size bottles of organic toiletries in the bathroom also impressed us.
Fridge was full of fresh eggs bacon, milk and butter and we were given a warm loaf of fresh bread of arrival.
Top ups were no problem whatsoever.
The wedding venue was fabulous serviced by professional yet very friendly locals - nothing was too much trouble for any staff member. Standout wedding and standout weekend - Thank you!
