Response from Emma and Mick, Owner at Wild Edge Retreat
Responded 23 Sept 2023
The offense you have caused with your horribly inaccurate review has caused great stress for us as the owners. We are neither scammers nor thieves. You paid to stay 2 nights (we do not offer one night bookings) and were then charged a heavily reduced fee for both smoking your Hookah Pipe & cigarettes indoors (which you were specifically asked not to do) and also the excess cleaning required to your Pavilion due to the state you left it in. We are not thieves however you and your partner are clearly not fully house-trained and also illiterate. Do we mention the vomit like substance in the bottom of the recycling bin or perhaps the use of hand dish-washing liquid (not tablets provided) in the dishwasher filling it with bubbles? Maybe the oil and heavily dirt stained bathrobes or the dirt/grime, water flooding and bubbles left all over the bathtub and bathroom? We are unsure what you are referring to as “nothing being comfortable”. Are you referring to our $3000+ king size beds with goose down toppers, the double sized spa bath with glorious views or perhaps the additional king size day bed out by your private pool? Was it the $1000 Nespresso Coffee Machine, the Dyson hairdryer or the professional Weber BBQ with temperature control that impeded your comfort? With regards to your hot water, when you called us advising there was an issue, we immediately attended to discover that the hot water system had been switched off at the outside unit. We switched this unit back on for you and hot water should have been almost instant. When you contacted us an hour later, you advised there was still no hot water. We returned to find you had not only turned the outside main hot water unit off but had unplugged it from the power point and turned off the valve making hot water supply impossible. We can only surmise that you had turned the hot water unit off at the power prior to the original call but we cannot figure out why unless it was to have something to complain about. You were not charged anything extra for the excessive removal of items in your Pavilion which included: 32 tea bags 10 coffee sachets 20 sugar sachets 20 raw sugar sachets 20 sweetener sachets 11 Cereals 11 Spreads 1 box of 50 matches 30 Pepper Sachets 30 Salt Sachets Thank you for not taking the toilet paper, facial tissues, dishwashing tablets, spare rubbish bags, batteries in the remote, light globes and firewood, that we also build into the cost of each stay. You were however charged for the damage you caused to our Entertainment, IT Network & WiFi: all of which required full system re-boots and several hours of extra work after you plugged in foreign devices to our systems. You were provided photos of all the detailed issues along with an itemised invoice (discounted by 50%) of the extra charges. The only reason we provided this discount was because you had provided us with a 5 star google review straight after your stay. You have since removed this review and proceeded to leave us negative reviews on Google, Face Book & Trip Advisor. Unfortunately we can’t take back our discount the way you took back your original positive review. Your choice to leave after only 27 hours was quite clearly based on the fact you had broken the entertainment and internet systems, stunk out the place with your smoking and left the room in such a disgusting state that no one would want to stay in such a condition. In fact it took 4 days to air out and specialist cleaning products to get the smoke smell out of the room and furniture. Your subsequent threatening email of negative reviews by both your wife & yourself as well as any friends you could rope in to conspire with you to leave false & misleading reviews is actually a criminal act in this country. Please note that we have reported your conduct to the local police. We genuinely hope no other owner of a property such as ours has to deal with the aftermath of people like you staying at their properties. Clearly from our other reviews, this is not the usual Guest or stay at Wild Edge Retreat.

This was our fifth time at Wildedge Retreat and it just keeps getting better and better!! Our favourite pavilion is Earth Song the view is spectacular ❤️The bed is THE most comfortable I’ve ever slept on ( including my own) and that’s saying something. The choice and quality of the food provisions are amazing - you literally couldn’t think of anything else you would need. Emma is so welcoming and makes you feel at home. So thank you for our anniversary bubbles and like Arnold Schwarzenegger says We Will Be Back!! Thank you so much Karen and Mark May 2023 xx

This place is absolutely incredible. The moment we arrived Mick and Emma were super welcoming and efficient. The villa was amazing with candles lit throughout and aircon on as it was a hot very hot day. The villa was super spacious and impeccably clean. My husband and I both agreed hands down the most well appointed retreat we’ve been to, they’ve thought of everything! We had stunning views over Wollombi valley and felt like we were the only people at the retreat during our stay as it it is all so private. We will definitely be back!

The most wonderful anniversary was celebrated at Wild Edge. The most relaxing getaway filled with tranquility and nature. The hosts Emma & Mick went out of their way to make this the most memorable get away. 12/10 is our score for Wild Edge.

My husband and I went here for a weekend getaway for our wedding anniversary and we weren't disappointed. We felt welcome from the moment we entered the gates to the time we left. Emma our host was awesome, meeting us at the car with a golf cart to transport our luggage, and was only a call away if we needed anything or extra supplies. The breakfast supplies were amazing with a huge selection to choose from including cereals, yoghurts, fruit, bread, eggs, bacon, mushrooms and fresh tomatoes plus a large selection of teas and coffees. Our fire was lit, cabin warm and tealight candles burning throughout the pavillion and deck areas in time for our arrival for a romantic welcome. As it was our anniversary there was a complimentary bottle of bubbles from a local winery on ice with a note from the hosts. If you are looking for a private, romantic and tranquil getaway then wildedge is for you. Thanks Emma and Mick, we will definitely be back

Ok, I'm rather biased in writing this review but please read on. My name is Rod Courtney and I was the project manager and partner from inception of the business through to 2009. Life sometimes doesn't take you were you think and it certainly didn't for my wife and I, but I would not have changed building this place for the world. Wild Edge Retreat was and remains a very special place in our hearts. Although the previous owners to Mick and Emma were entirely forgettable, all I can say is that I am very proud to know that both of them (Mick and Emma) have not only kept up the very high standards we ourselves did, but improved on them. Until recently my wife and I had not returned to the property. We were actually married in the Earth Song Pavilion in 2008. It's been a great trip down memory lane. If you are after something very special and different, somewhat secluded and want to escape the crazy world we currently find ourselves living in, you won't find better hosts or facilities in this part of the Hunter. Wild Edge is a truly special place, confirmed by the multitide of excellent reviews it continues to receive. Thanks Mick and Emma. You truly are special people. Jennie and I hope you thorough enjoy Wild Edge Retreat.

We spent 3 nights at Wild Edge in the Nature's Mist room. Great room, comfy bed and huge spa bath. Superb view of mountains and valley below. Deep plunge pool and beautiful surroundings. Very quiet, wallabies hopping about and had an owl on our deck on the first night. Hosts are very welcoming and accommodating. Highly recommend coming here for some peace and quiet.

I am not sure where to start with my review!! This place is simply amazing!! We booked online and when Emma contacted us by phone I asked a few questions and told her we were staying here for a little honeymoon! We arrived 2 days after our wedding and were greeted by Emma in the golf cart to collect our belongings to take us to our pavilion, The Wind Spirit!! First little personal detail I noticed was the "Just Married" sign on the back of the cart!! When we arrived at the pavilion, when we opened the door the aircon was on the room smelt amazing! We were greeted with a bottle of champagne and a personal note from Emma and Mick which I have kept for my wedding box and again some "Just married" signs in our room!! Our pavilion was incredibly clean! It had the feeling that we had been the first to stay there (which were obviously not) which in my opinion is the level of cleanliness you want! I had read the emails when we booked and all the info on the website and when I jumped online and read some reviews it is very clearly noted 1. The driveway can be rough! It was actually not as bad as I was expecting and noticed that it was better in some parts then the tar on the main roads! 2. Get your groceries on the way out because it is not a resort! We did drop into Cessnock on the way and grabbed some supplies, although we did go out almost everyday and have a look around but if you don't want to have to leave, it is very obvious to grab it on the way! We were on our way out one morning to go for a little drive and grab some breakfast when we ran into Mick he suggested a little cafe in Laguna!! It was perfect, thanks Mick!! The pavilion has everything you need and more! It has all top of the range appliances! We got the seafood platter and I cannot recommend it more! It was some of the best seafood I have ever had! It was so fresh! It was the perfect honeymoon waking up to the birds every morning! We stayed 4 nights, 5 days! The pool, the spa, the robes and the movies in bed! It couldn't have been better! Thank you for amazing memories and maybe we will come back to celebrate our anniversary <3

Dear Jodie, We are always honoured to host our Honeymooning Guests and you & Robert were certainly no exception. :-) We know that after all the drama and craziness of the lead up to the big day, the only thing you want on your Honeymoon is time together without stress. The time has finally come for you to relax and be with each other and, whilst you were one of our most active Guests, we are so pleased you enjoyed your time at Wild Edge. When the time comes to celebrate your anniversary, we will be thrilled to be another part of your memories together. Take care, Emma & Mick

Booked this stay as a little birthday surprise for my husband and he says it’s the best staycation we’ve had so far! Booking online was fast and efficient. I had a little query re laundry, sent a message via their website and promptly got a response via email. Apart from the confirmation email received upon booking, there is another email that was sent a week prior to our stay containing all pertinent information including driving instructions. A portion of the road leading up to the retreat location was unsealed. Thus, the drive up there was quite rough and uncomfortable. Nothing unexpected as this was clearly noted on the email. But upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Emma, we heard the chirping of the birds and saw how beautiful the place is, so we thought it was all worth it. Our pavilion (Earth Song) was well-stocked and is extremely clean. We were greeted with some lovely tealight candles, a sweet little birthday cake for my husband, a personalized welcome letter with a beautiful relaxing music on the background. The breakfast provisions were extremely generous (see photos) and we loved the little snacks provided as well that went perfectly with our coffee/tea. My personal favourite was the Citrus Press! I love my OJ freshly squeezed for me for breakfast! The picturesque view from the deck accompanied with the soft chirping of the birds was just the lovely break that we needed from our usual daily routine. We loved soaking ourselves in the warm pool and how we ended our day with a nice warm spa bath. Overall, I think it’s the little personal touches all throughout our stay that made this one particularly stood out from all the rest we’ve had before. From Emma personally greeting us when we arrived helping us with our stuff, the personalized letter, the little cake, setting the mood in the room (candles, music) for when we arrive, the little notes reminding us to just call when we need anything or extra provision, up to the recommendations on where to stop on the way back home! I cannot thank you enough Emma & Mick for helping me make this staycation a truly special and memorable one for my husband! We just cannot wait to be back! TIPS: - Albeit breakfast provisions were extremely generous, bring enough food & bev items that’ll last for the duration of your stay as there are no shops within walking distance to the retreat. The nearest grocery as per the pre-stay email is 35mins drive from there. - There is no laundry facility onsite so it’s helpful to bring a laundry bag for used clothes - No need to bring anything to fully enjoy the spa bath. I actually bought a lush bubble bar but apparently, I can’t use it there. That wasn’t a problem though because a beautiful bath bag infusion, as well as some bath foam is already provided.

Response from Emma and Mick, Owner at Wild Edge Retreat
Responded 25 Oct 2022
Dear Angelica, Thank you very much for your generous and very comprehensive review of your stay at Wild Edge. We were so pleased we could make Alastair's 33rd B-day a special one for both of you and that you so clearly enjoyed all the special touches and inclusions in your Pavilion. Your tips are spot on for a stay at the Retreat. Being on a Septic system, we do ask Guests not to use bath bombs or similar. Instead we provide Wallawa Indigenous Skincare products, including the Bath Tea Infusion you mention, which a number of our Guests with skin sensitivity have commented on how they found these products to be very gentle on their skin. Our bath foam is an organic Milk & Honey blend, again, very gentle on skin. We look forward to welcoming you back to Wild Edge the next time you want to getaway for a Staycation. :-) Cheers, Emma & Mick
